Apple is replacing certain iPod Nanos that were produced between September '05 to December '06.
If you have one of these and are thinking of, or currently trying to sell one of these, check to see if your Nano qualifies before you do so.

Info on recall: iPod Nano Replacement Program (http://www.apple.com/support/ipodnano_replacement/)

Check if yours qualifies here: https://supportform.apple.com/201110/

Just a heads up before you go searching eBay for used ones. I've seen a few people ask for the serial #s
in the questions section of the auction page and a couple of sellers have provided them.
A few of them I looked up said they've already took part in the replacement program.
Just so you know, you have to send them the actual iPod. The serial # alone will not do you any good.
I was able to help out a friend of mine already. He should be getting his new one soon.

Congrats to those of you who benefit from this...

-Chris

This is the message I got.

Thank you.

Your request has been submitted.

Apple will send you a box with shipping instructions to mail your iPod nano to us. Apple will then send you a replacement iPod.

I believe they replace it with the current generation Nano. The little square one you can wear as a watch.

Thanks for the heads-up. Here's some pretend + rep for you. My wife has one and it qualified, though it looks like it will be replaced by another 1st gen iPod.

Yeah I was just reading up on that. I guess a replacement 1st gen would still be good if yours was in bad shape...

Got my new 8gb nano last week. Nice to get a new one as the front wheel on my old nano was broken anyway.

I got a new 8gb Nano as well, but is anyone else actually missing their old gen 1 Nano? I have an iPhone, and a classic, and I'm just staring at this little thing and am like wtf am I supposed to do with this? Lol I only ever used my Nano for running/working out and liked the wheel when it was in my waterproof armband thing. But this tiny little guy? I haven't a clue what to do with it as I actually liked my wheel :/

Still haven't sent mine in bc after I registered it tO see if it qualifies, I was sent an email saying if nothing was found out to be wrong with it I would be charged a 100.00 service fee. Anyone else get this, or is I just SOP?

I too got this email. I'm guessing it's just a generic email they send out whenever you request for a product replacement.

They do ask you to input your serial # in the beginning and if your nano is part of the recall, you should be able to proceed.

I haven't used my nano since I got an iPod Touch and also an Android phone. Listening to all these songs again from years ago is pretty nostalgic lol

-edit-

this is what I received from Apple today in the mail regarding costs: Everything is $0, so you should be OK.
