sooooooo, my KA sounded like death today after i hit about 6.2k. Here's a video. 149k miles, fresh oil. No real noticeable loss in power, runs fine, idles fine. She still took me home after it started making this noise. Strong vibration in the clutch pedal too. Sounds like its coming from the head, but I don't know for sure. Spun bearing? Something wrong with the valve train? :dead:

put your ear to the oil pan, then rev it,

sounds like its coming from right underneath the valve cover. what am i listening for near the oil pan?

sounds like something loose to me, not necessarily a bearing or valve, maybe you need valve lash adjustment?
hard to tell from the video though

Don't put your EAR to the pan.. put it on a screw driver, and the screw driver on the pan then poke around, listen to different parts of the engine and you should hear the sound become louder and sharper as u get closer to the source.

if the clutch is vibrating, it`s probably in the bottom end of the engine. easiest way to check for spun bearings is to cut your oil filter open. if you see any metal shavings in it, time for a rebuild.

Aaaand now this morning my powersteering went out. Did my pump coincidentally go out at the same time this noise started, or is the pump the cause of it?

didn't sound like a pump noise, remove the belt.. see if it still makes the noise w/o the pump spinning..

definitely still makes the noise with the belt off. the motor only makes the knocking noise at idle or when RPM's are coming down. Whenever the throttle is open, the knocks subside to the point where theyre almost unnoticeable. But as soon as I lift off the throttle it sounds HORRIBLE. Drove fine all day long today. Never had a single problem. Cant afford to tear her apart until the weekend. Any more suggestions before I do so? When it comes down to it, I'll dohc swap asap if this does end up being an internal problem.

When I bought my coupe my friend told me the same thing. Turns out the valve guide broke bent the chain , replaced and no more knocking. it was the best deal I've ever done two tone coupe, blue interior, not a crack on the dash and for under a 1000
