View Full Version : car wont start...help!
Like the title says,my car wont start for some reason.
a little recap of what happened today:
woke up and went to the junk yard to find a spoilerless hatch, found one but had a big dent on one side so i said screw it. picked up a black steering panel that goes under the dash (ned it because im swapping from blue to black interior). So got to my cousins house and put it on. Then after when i was leaving the car started to have problems. STarted up a few times but had idle paly and died. Did it a few more times and kept on dieing. Then left my car over there to go to work.
later went back and tried to jump start it with my bros car and nothing. now it doesn't start but it clicks and turnsover.
so what the hell is going on?:bash:

Did you mess with any of the wires? Maybe something to do with the light down there.
Thats what im guessing right now. Cause when i was taking my old panel off it snagged on something so i took it off slowy and proceeded on the replacing the panel with my new one. I gotta check it out tomorrow. BTW do you or anyone haev a FSM diagram of the wiring around the fuse box area?
Thnaks btw s13grl

Ok yea, my situation is more retarded. I pull my car in to the garage and jack it up to change out the supsension, last side I did was the front right side by where the battery is. Finish installing the suspension and put the car back down. Tried to start it and doesn't turn on anymore. Tried push starting it and nothing. Did not touch any wire or anything. Talk about bad luck. Any suggestions?

Just checked up on my car today and it seems like the wiring looks fine. but i dont hear my fuel pump going on. i checked my fuel pump fuse and it looks fine. Could it be my fuel pump?

Rev, try charging/changing your battery. It'll do that when it sits.
DRFT, did you check your fuel pump relay?

definately could be the fuel pump.
remember.. there are only 3 things that are necessary to make a car run.
Fuel
Fire
air
Figure out which one your missing, and you'll fix the problem.
s13grl, im going to check the fuel pump relay today. i jsut read in the other post about it.
Didn't get a chance to check out ym relay cause ti was raining and my car wasn't in the garage. but anyways what if it is my relay that went bad? do i jsut go to the dealer and get a enw one? and do i just check it with a volt meter?
ok just found out that it wasn't the relay. So should i shoot for a new fuel pump next?
hmm....seems like no one cares...but anywho i tihnk someone will read this.
So i the relay wasn't the problem. I took out my fuel pump today to have it checked by kragen. But they won't test fuel pumps, only batteries and starters. SO the counter guy tell em to hook up my fuel pump to a power source to test if it winds (spins).
So i get home and do just that. So i get some wires plug it into the power source and the fuel pump. So i power it up, after a few seconds of winding it jsut goes flat. And it winds very slow. So i think my best bet would be a faulty fuel pump.
what are youguy's opinions on this? a bad fuel pump?
DRFT
how did u figure out it wasn't the starter relay's problem ?
I started to suspect my fuel pump as well ... coz I can't push started it even up to 30 mph ...
how did u pull out your fuel pump ?
did u ever try push starting it ?

^ he has an Auto, i dont think you can push start an auto
I boguht a new fuel pump relay.
I went to the back of the car and unscrewed the cover, and unscrewed the fuel pump out. but beware it gets really stinky.
you can push start a automatic?
btw you get your car running?
EDIT: Do you mean fuel pump relay or starter relay? if starter relay, where is that located?
I still can't start my car yet
I try push start, even up to 30 mph, when i release the clutch, the whole car just came to a full stop ...
really have no idea what is going on ...
I believe the starter relay is inside the fuse Box ... am i correct ?
havent gotten a good chance to really work on the car since its X mas time.
I was bored and hooked the fuel pump back up to the power source and now the pump works. Don't know what really is going on!!!
Maybe i should check the starter relay too.
What else solutions have you heard about this problem that we have?
my frd said maybe i am not getting spark and ask me to test the spark plug if they are igniting ...
and someone said it might be just some wore out cable .

Ok I had the same problem, I pulled out the old pump and tested it with the car's battery and it spun. We put it back on and it spun but didn't seem to be spinning quick enough. So i'm guessing the best alternative is to change it out for a new one and hope it works.:bash:

if it were me, i would rather just take it to a shop and have them find the problem, instead of buying a new pump, which may not even be the problem..

did you fix your car yet?....my dad had the same problem on some old POS honda and we figured out that the thing that measure the fuel level in the tank was blocking the flow of gas....so iunno if it helps any but w/e:confused:
havent had a chance because of the crazy weather. when it dies down in a few days ill work on it. btw the car is parked @ my cousin s house outside! but im going to check my fuel filter and see if my fuel is really going bad or not.
btw thanks for reviving my thread

o yea one more thing...did you check the sparkplugs cuz u can just look at the tips and see if theyre rounded or not and see how worn out the plugs are...also it could be a new battery cuz my car would take forever to turn over and it even wouldnt start a few times and when i got a new battery...it worked....you can check the battery with a battery checker if u got one or else look at the date on the battery to see when the guy bought it....iunno if u did this already but jus tryin to help o.O
thanks, yea i got new spark plugs and a new battery. Im going to try to borrow my friends fuel pump to see if mine has gone bad. but first im going to check my fuel filter.

I hate when cars do this at Xmas time
mines still F**ked but i have a few more things to check.
im going to measure voltage at the wiring harness for the pump to see if the pump is gettin power or not
and i still dont know which one is the fuel pump relay
So i went over to my cousins house today to work on the car. We isntalled the fuel pump back in just to see if it works, and what do you know? it worked:) so i drove home as fast as possible.
So what is the problem? could it be the fuel pump not working correctly?
