So I found this '92 hatchback: 5-speed (of course), SE model, gold exterior, shit-brown interior. 103K. It looked exactly like my old coupe, only it was a hatchback. I get in the car, no rip in the seat (amazing!), analogue speedo. Shifter feel sloppy as ####. My '91 felt much nicer. Redlines at 7K (my '91 did it at 6500). Clutch is pretty #### worn. I drove it around a little bit, it was really quiet... I was amazed. I had a GReddy SP on my '91, my boyfriend has an Apex'i on his '96--this had stock exhaust, it was too darn quiet. So, anyway... clutch feels worn, everything else is good. The guy is dwelling on how much I like the car, praising me for driving aggressive and so un-girly, trying to lick my ass to make him some money... yadda yadda... I ask to see the engine bay. I didn't notice anything until then, but I popped the hood open, the timing chain is clattering off it's f'n guides. There's no knocks, good fuel seems to have been used, got 8mm wires, everything is STOCK. Some fuses look like they've been blown, and that's about it. But I went inside to go over things with them... they want 5200 for it. So I tell them they're crazy. "You only paid the owner $1000 for it, it's a '92, it needs a new clutch, it needs a new timing chain, or at least upper guides, I'm not giving you more then $3000." He goes: "$2500 plus tax ok for you?". So f'n easy.
Now, here's where I jinxed everything. We were driving around and I drove past one of their sections of the parking lot and saw a white hatchback, base model, KA24E motor, all old and shabby. It was 8PM when this all happened. I asked the guy to see the white car, he wouldn't let me. Told me it was really beat up, it was brush-painted white, really horrible, barely runs; and while he's telling me all this, I'm thinking "oh my God, perfect project. I won't need the tranny, won't use the motor, won't need the front end, will paint it all... all I need is a good frame and a good interior.) I finally managed to force him to show me the car. It was an auto. And SOO beat up! I loved it! When we went inside to do some paperwork, his manager was so convinced he could sell me the gold one, he wouldn't even talk about the white one. How did I jinx it? I got an adrenaline rush just from looking at it. I looked at it and it appeared pink, believe it or not. I got worked up and started thinking and planning... I"M so bummed! I don't blame you for not reading the whole topic, but yeah... that's the closest I've come in months.
If any of you have or know someone who has a 240SX that's really beat up with a good frame and preferably a good tranny (5-speed), and is looking to get rid of the car, please let me know... PLEASE! <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'>.
That's all.
