Hey guys,
First of all I'm new, so hey. Ok, I'm getting ready to get my SR20DET installed. What I need to know is what I need to get besides just the engine/clip. And what of those parts I need to have installed at the same time as the engine, because I heard a lot of the parts are easier to install when the engines out of the car.
Thanks,
John

http://www.srswap.com/ - here's a link to the site that sells the custom heater hoses that you'll want to put on the back of the engine before it goes in. If you don't it it really cramped in the back of the engine bay area and a lot harder to remove the old hoses and install the new ones. Here's a list of parts that I would install before the engine goes in if you plan on getting them. There should be a metal tube coming off of the turbo that sticks straight up pointing to the hood - take the tube off and plug the whole w/ an air inlet valve plug. Install the greddy turbo outlet pipe. Remove the engine and trannmission from each other and check the condition of the clutch - if needed, buy new clutch kit and replace before intsall. You can buy the air inlet valve plug from srswap.com or enjukuracing.com ($12). Don't forget to check the oil pan for dents - if there is one take the oil pan off and hammer the dent out. That's all I can think of. Hope this helps.

If you have the time and resources, remove the intake and head and have a professional port and polish both and then reshape the valve bowls for higher flow. Port match the exhaust sides as well.
Clean everything impeccably.
Make the engine compartment perfect as well.
Do not forget to completely replace the clutch, PP and TOB and have the fly resurfaced, balanced and a pund or so taken off it.
Do complete leak down and compression testing.
Replace any questionable electrical connections with grease free ones and reattach.

Thanks a lot guys. But also, what mods should I do? What's easier when its not installed, such as BOV, EBC, Downpipe, Exhaust, etc.

do this after the engine is in, otherwise it will just get in the way, at least thats what i did, except the exhaust; doesnt matter when you install that.
Oh, and obviously motor mounts should be done before swap if your replacing them, along with o2 sensor, head gasket, radiator, pulleys, etc.
Basically all the shit thats going to be a pain in the ass when the engine is already in. cant really think of anything else??

Yeah that reminds me. I'm thinking both pullies and a new flywheel? Is there good aftermarket support on those?

If your going to upgrade the pulleys go with the greddy pulley set - $260. For the flywheel you could buy a fidanza lightened flywheel or TODA - personally I would go w/ the TODA flywheel (it will run you around $410); however, if you're going to replace the clutch and pressure plate w/ the flywheel too you should just buy the hks single plate clutch kit ($795) - it comes with all of that.
