Well, it looks like I'll be buying a clip (redtop S13) from Venus-Auto as I like their prices, etc. I called them up today to find out more info/place an order and was greeted by probably the most rude employee ever.

He answered the phone "yeah?!?!?" like I did something wrong to him...then gave me a shitty attitude so I pretty much got off the phone with him as soon as I could.

Furthermore, I'm sure I just dealt with someone who was having a bad day, etc. Can anyone suggest a friendly salesperson to talk to? I'd like to ask them a few questions and not feel rushed, etc.

I second this, I used to buy parts from them (Honda). It's cool if you buy nonengine related crap from them, but when it come to their motors and swap its crap. They don't compression check their motors ,and you guys should see the way they toss the clips and swap around. Take your money elsewhere, pay a little higher if you have to so that atleast you know you have a back up plan. Thank god my friend is an importer.

I would go with them in a heart beat, I got my LSD, it works fine, a good friend Bruce and www.brucenomura.com gets all his clips through them. No problems, if you have a problem with a clip they will help you with it, if its blown they will take it back. you dont buy one over the phone you look at it. i know you cant see if its blow but you get a good idea of the engine. im not saying you woudl buy one over the phone either.

I go to venus about once every other month just to check up on prices. I just went there the other day, and there was a asian guy working. I asked for a tranny crossmember because i have auto, wanting to do a swap. I asked if he got one and he said all of them they were the same. I said it was different but he kept on saying they were different in a rude way. The other times i went, tehre was a hispanic guy working he had bad luanguage, no accent just a potty mouth, and he was pretty cool, very up front. it just depends on what days to go to get good service. I heard good and bad stories about the engines. my advice is just go there yourself and check out the engines, do a compression test, and try to start it up. or have someone that is mecahnically inclined to check out the engine and the turbo.

The rude guy i think you guys are mentioning from venus is Sam. he owns an s14 himself and girlfriend owns a s13. he's a cool guy you just have to get to know them, as far as motors i have heard good and bad so i dont know what to think, however a very reputable shop here in sac, motorsport dynamics www.motdyn.com uses there front clips SOMETIMES.

well i just ordered my s13 redtop about a week ago and it should be coming in by next monday, i have the trackign number and the engine is located in shelby, Montana :P. I ordered froma company called www.japandomesticmotor.com, i talked to the Main guy Shoaib Nekzad, he was really nice and had the best customer service. We even talked for like an hour & half bout engines and saving me some money. I bought the whole engine for 1700 includes shipping and customs duties since its located in Canada.The number they have on their site is the east coast jdm inc location, they have 2 locations. You have to call 1 403 717 4252, thats their west location. I only got the engine for 1700 cuz we just talked for so long. I dont know the outcome of the motor yet cuz i havent received it. Its already been compression tested and leakdown tested. He says they never send out bad engines. Just lettin u guys know this place is pretty reputable and trustworty.

TWO THUMBS UP on customer service. Jeff took the time to explain the warranty, what motors are coming, how much shipping will be, etc. even though I know he probably does that 3-4 times a day. VERY NICE GUY!!!

I'm leaving for vacation on Thurs so I guess I'll give them a call when I get back to order a motor (if my local guy doesn't come through).

I also called rcrewracing.com and it looks like they are going to be looking for a new supplier...so no SR20DETs for a few months.

venus seems to be hit or miss. both motors i got from them are good, just had a problem with one having a couple of smashed connectors and missing a throttle cable bracket................which they still havent sent.

and its pretty much a given that if you dont get the girl (vicky) on the phone, you're gonna get an asshole.

In my experience, no one who I know of who got a clip from venus has had any problems...I would, however, be wary of thier motorsets..and btw they do comp test every one of thier motors, and even though some may be front wrecks they are still good..my clip came from them and although I haven't put it in yet, I am very happy with what I got.. a fully stock redtop with 40k miles(65k kilometers) and its super clean and not a front hit car. I also drained all the fluids before removing it from the clip and everything looked fine. my local shop owner and his son both have blacktops in their cars and they both run perfect...and whenver there has been a problem with anything from them, venus works to correct it.

I live in Sacramento, and have been dealing with Venus since 1999. They really are a $hitty place to go to. The customer service sucks and his prices depend on whether he likes you or not. Between my friends and I, we have four motorsets from Venus. The owner's name is Ronald by the way. All the motors except one took a $hit right after the install. Ronald is that old chinese man. If you continue to go to him, you will see what I mean. He acts like you owe him something and won't help you unless you flash him money. As for the other guys who work there, they can be cool, but not most of the time. They also act like they know everything, just because they work there, but I have proven them wrong on various accounts.

I would say to go somewhere else, because Venus is really bad with their clips, and nothing is taken care of. I stopped dealing with them after I learned that my friend who I guess Ronald likes, was getting his motorsets a lot cheaper than I was getting them, which was about a year ago. Just save yourself the headache and go somewhere else, you'll thank yourself later.

Yury at Heavy Throttle, Robert at Project Silvia, Kid Zelda, Ken at Enjuku, Wayne at Phase2motortrend, mckinney motorsports, sam at jspec(i think they are selling engines now) - all these guys have good track records and usually provide warrenty and customer service. Some are registered with the Better Business Bureau, etc.


In my opinion stay away from. Venus, Flash Options, and any canadian importers that may be on ebay and from montreal. I would check out www.nissaninfiniticlub.com and search for some of these names. Most of them have a bad rep.

I believe I am about to get a Front Clip from Venus Auto. Regarless of everything everyone has said, I know a couple of my asian friends and we got mad hookup there. I just really hope that the clip I receive will be in good working condition.

i bet most of the people who posted in this thread have never bought a thing form Venus, i bought my clip from them and never had a problem, the engine runs great, my clip had some front damage but they sent me the parts i needed that were damaged, and i called them needing a belt because the one on there was a bit old, they sent me one out w/in a week, they catered to my every need, didnt regret it one bit either.
i doubt they act the way some of you portray...

I've had experiences with Venus a couple years ago.

My advice is if you can physically be there to check out the clip then go for it.

On the other hand, I got my clip from Motorex. I did the swap myself and when I needed help on some stuff they were actually very helpful.

for what its worth i forgot to mention that both engine sets i got from venus came with slightly dented oil pans, and they sent brand new nissan ones to replace them.

my car also dyno'd 255rwhp and 249tq yesterday with their motorset. only mods are an RSPL intercooler, 3" turbo-back exhaust, and a profec b set @ 14psi. so id say its fairly healthy.

as for Heavy Throttle............i've bought tons of parts from them, and their customer service rocks. i just didnt get my engine from them because their prices are a lil steep. Their parts prices are right there with everyone else though.

-hood( pretty straitm a few dings)
-BUMPER!!!( F&&^k) this bumper is a piece of shit!(if anyone knows where to find a k's bumper in good condition please tell me!! but in the end its all good! because i only paid 500.00 for the front complete with dual projectors! NOT BADD AT ALL! thanks venus auto!!!!

I got my redtop from Protech-Performance, who in turn ordered it from Venus-Auto, but only because I got a really good deal, same for the silvia front end.(Venus-Auto)
I've read a lot of Venus bashing from here and on other nissan boards.

My engine turned out ok, BUT, it did come from a wrecked silvia clip, my TB, oil pan, IC piping, & Radiator were all busted. I really had my doubts on this engine by how it looked, totally dirty. They sent another radiator with it, but I had to constantly call Protech Performance for my TB and Oil Pan(which STILL hasn't been resolved), so I just ordered my parts from Phase2 and Jspec.com

In short,
Venus-Auto was good on price, bad on how the engine looked (runs good nonetheless)
Protech-Performance-I really don't want to get into it, but they just totally suck at Customer Service, fuck them.....

I got my engine from Venus...been running strong for about 3 years. It's been through autocrossing, drag racing, drift days...and haven't had any problems at all. Never dynoed, but ran a 13.4 @108 (14psi) on some street tires.

the reason they dont talk to walk in customers is because the have an established clientel like moto dyn up in sac and other large shops. they dont need people walking in and buying a c's shifter or stuff like that.

haha! I forgot to add this...

First time I got a clip from them, included everything that came with it, whatever blow off valve, intake, dashboard, etc.

a couple months later, did not include blow off valve if it had one

later, did not even include front suspension

much later, did not include dash

about a month or two ago, super duper strippy, almost didn't want to include guage cluster. (so went and bought somewhere else)

These were all front clips. He strips all the suspension, the dash and interior, and whatever he can out of the engine and sells it to you like so. Other than Silvia front conversions, he's really not good for anything else. There are a million other places that have better clips for great prices.

the thing about the clips being stripped is true i must admit, when i got mine it was bare metal, no fenders, no dash, no nothing, but came with all parts needed for swap, so i was very pleased, i just said i needed to be sur ei had a gauge cluster with mine, so they made sure to put one in there, just ask them and they will do it, yea you shouldnt have to ask but it will save you time later to ask when you order it
