I have a 1991 240sx se and my driver's side window doesn't work. I connected a working motor, which was tested on the passenger side, and the motor didn't work. There is no noise coming from the motor at all. I did notice that the wire coming from the window motor connects to a little black box in the door. This black box makes a ticking sound when I press the up or down buttons of the power window. The driver's side controls for the passenger side window works just fine. Anyone have any ideas? And what is that little black box? Thanks.

The black box is a relay. If it's clicking, it *generally* means it is still working OK. Do you have any way to check for power at the wires? Multimeter, test light, etc. . . If there is power at the wires coming from the relay, you can rule that out as the problem. The motor may not be making any noise because the regulator (the frame/cables, gearbox that everything runs on) might be jammed. Does the window go down? When mine went out, it would go down, but I'd have to pull it up by hand.

If it seems you are getting nothing out of the motor, I'd check to make sure the relay is getting power, use a testlight or voltmeter at the wires that go in to the relay.

I don't have a real way to test the wires. I tried out the new motor (it came with the car when I bought it) and that didn't work. I didn't actually connect the motor up to everything, just the wires. I did this one the passenger side and the motor worked. I just held the motor in my hand and the gear would just turn and turn. When I tried it on the drivers side it nothing happened at all. If that ticking black box is a relay and it's getting power (obviously from the ticks) then perhaps there is a bad connection somewhere. Eitherway, you're right, I need to test the wires and see if any power is coming out of that relay. Thanks.

Yeah, I've had that problem too. If you call up your Nissan parts dealer they'll probaly call the relay ("black box") the "Power window Amp". At least that's what mine calls it. The clicking doesn't mean that it's working properly in this case. If you switch that out, it'll probably work. It fixed my problem.

Best wishes,
Matt

Holy crap! I called a few places and the part (called a Window Regulator part # H072137F16) cost about $140!! I need to find a junk yard or something.

i have sh!t brown interior, so i went to the j/y and took all the black interior out of a car... the relay "jumped" into a box that was marked for parts.... it was the weirdest thing...

nothin like free.... im sure they will only charge you like $5.00 if anything at all.. most places cant inventory such items

Haha, yeah you have to watch out for those jumping car parts! With any luck I'll find a junk yard with the parts I'm looking for.
