Cons
Tires will need to be replaced soon
Needs Alignment (due to recent suspension work, tracked perfect before)
Interior needs to be finished, Carpet / Stereo
Slight diff noise from rearend upon take off, still drives great and isnt loud
Previous owner cut holes in the doors/door panels for speakers and never installed them
Paint isnt perfect, a few small belmishes (Inspection lid touched up, couple dents in hood, couple places of discoloration)
Rear Spoiler is cracking where it was molded to the hatch but is very secure
Typical Gas Tank Vent hoses should be replaced or deleted, already replaced a couple of them
Tach hasnt worked since I got the car, probably not hooked up judging from the coil wiring
I have owned this car for about 18 months and have put a lot of time and money into her. I looked for over a year all over the west coast looking for a nice rust free example of a 240z. Finally found this one in Oregon and made the 800 mile trip to pick it up. I drove it daily, about 100-200 miles per week and it never left me stranded. Over the time, I wanted to bring it up to date with electronics so I replaced the starter and the alternator with upgraded units. Upgrading the heater blower, with a 89 CRX unit makes the windows defrost much faster and as well as warms the cabin much more efficiently, one of the more comfortable mods I have done, as well as one of the easiest. I also got tired of the old seat belts so I decided to upgrade them to a more modern style belt. I had the Motorsport Auto Belts, but didn't like them, so I decided to find a factory Nissan alternative. So after a couple minor tweaks, I got the 240sx belts to work with Q45 buckles. I also upgraded the headunit to an Alpine unit that has an AUX input for an MP3 player or phone. The glovebox liner that was in the car was in poor condition so I removed it and bent up an aluminum liner for the time being. My plans for the interior were to replace all the gauges with aftermarket units, carpet, install the dash cap and finish the stereo.
The suspension is extremely responsive and tight. I have owned several Datsuns and have never felt one that was this responsive. Its got the solid steering coupler, urethane bushings on the steering rack, Ground Control Coil Overs with Illumina Shocks and Addco Swaybars. My next plans to the suspension were going to be installing the poly tie rod boots, new ball joints w poly boots, possibly install the bumpsteer spacers, then get an alignment. The next parts I was planning on purchasing for it included strut bars and adjustable front and rear control arms to get more adjustability out of the suspension.
The engine is an L24, not matching numbers. Appears to have been previously rebuilt but the owner I purchased the car from did not have any information for me. When I purchased the car, it had a sticker on the valve cover that said "Ross Machining Mountain View, CA" but never did any research to verify the build. The engine has ran great, I get 15-20 mpg around town and starts great every morning without carb chokes. I had the carbs tuned and a valve adjustment done by Dandos in Fremont a couple months back and I was alerted that my Z had better early carbs, but the later 73 intake and exhaust manifolds. While the carbs are the earlier more efficient style, the manifold limits the linkage throw so you only get ¾ throttle. Swapping the intake manifolds will fix this issue, and I have both early NON-EGR manifolds to do the swap, including a new gasket.
The body is in great condition, very straight as you can see in the video and pics, but not perfect, I would say 8/10. There are however a dent or 2 on the hood that I was planning on replacing with a Carbon Fiber unit, but never got around to purchasing. The rear spoiler has a couple cracks where it was molded to the hatch but is still very stable. The inspection lid was touched up due to some paint chipping, and there are a couple stains on the paint that were there from the previous owner. Rust, I have not been able to find any rust on this car. The floor pans, frame rails, dog legs, hatch shelf and fenders are solid and dont show any signs of corrosion. I have had this car on a rack a few times and really took time to inspect all the typical rust areas.
This 240z has served me well and would love to see it go to a loving home where it can get finished. I have recently moved and cant afford to keep her any longer. Its not a forced sale, so I am VERY firm at $6500. If you do not want some of the parts, we may be able to work something out, but I would love for someone to take everything.
