trying to decide which way to go with suspension, , narrowed it down to JIC flta1, tein basic, or rsr race springs + koni/agx combo.
1 question I'd like to ask if how do you guys think the tein basic
(6/6 kg/mm front/rear) will hold up vs. the rsr (5/4.2) + koni or AGX.
personally I think the basic would be a bit better, assuming Tein did their job o.O thanks

i was wondering the same thing too...the tein is just a little more expensive if i'm not mistaken...but i'm guessing the tein setup would be a little more precisely matched...someone please reply...thanks

I would go with the Tein basic. Or add a little more for Tein SS :)
Buying a coilover set is better IMO. They were built to work together so the spring rate and shock tolerances/travel are matched up well, and it's a trusted name. The Basic dont have damper adjustability though. If you need adjustability get the other spring /shock combos. I think the Koni only have rebound adjusability and the AGX have compression/rebound adjustability but they are adjusted together, not separately.

Only by a little bit and as far as i know installation on the coilovers is cheaper. Im not 100% sure on that.

however, 2 yrs down the line when the coilovers need to be overhauled it will take 2-3 weeks of downtime and $100 per shock plus the cost of shipping. I'm still not sure right now, but I will have to make a decision soon. I'm leaning towards AGX/RSR combom right now, but this might change if I get a really good price on coilovers from a friend.
Ya shocks will blow in time. Most ppl i know just go buy new shit when this happens considering it's 100 bucks a shock plus shipping to overhaul. How much more would it cost to get new dampers from tein? Probably not much more than the overhaul considering the whole kit is 800 with springs and everything. I myself am using KYB AGX shocks with ground control sleeved coilover springs. 6.7K/4.5K custom rates. I love how my car feels but i've got a lot more done to the car besides that
whiteline front/rear adjustable sway bars
whiteline polyurethane bushings
CP Racing front&rear triangular strut bars
Tein front pillow ball mounts w/adjustable camber
Soon rears also for X-mas
Autopower 6-point rollcage
I dont know if you can use the pillow ball mounts with regular springs and that's a HUGE HUGE part in your suspension. I'd look into it before i bought the RSR. Coilovers have advantages in ride height adjustment too. If you are using the AGX or KONI, you may as well buy some Ground Control so you can have ride height adjustment and be able to use the pillow ball mounts too. IMO.

hehe sorry I don't think buying new coilovers every 2-3 yrs is within the limits of my budget being a college student. I think I'll probably get the AGX and RSR, thanks for the great info. I will look into the adjustable pillowball mounts.

you said you narrowed it down to jic flta1's, tein basics, and RSR w/ koni's. the JIC's aren't really even near the same class as the other two. The JIC's are much better than the basics and the RSR.
Between the basics and the RSR's go with the tein. a true coilover system is much better than a shock and spring. gives you much more options after you finish the car, height adjustabe, corner weighting. also getting a coilover rebuilt isn't all that bad for 100 dollars a shock is pretty good considering that your getting better shocks than the ones you have now which probly cost about 80 dollars. and the Koni's if you were to get them would cost about 120. you would save in the long run, because the koni's with the RSR spring will not last aslong as a true coilover system due to it not being valved properly to the spring and the fact that it isn't a short stroke strut either.fact that it isn't a short stroke strut either.
get a coilover system, just depends how much money you want to put in to it. flex's are good too get pillow ball mounts! and cheaper than JIC's.

just wonderin why GC's aren't in the mix of choices too?
I run those as well :)

You know what ground controls are right? From your response i assume that you dont. GC are not full coilovers. They are just the spring part of the coilover that you can put your own shock in. That way it's kinda like you build your own coilovers. As long as you know the specs on the shocks you want to use(like the maximum spring rate and the lowest ride height) you can actually set up your car pretty well like i did. GC and AGX. GC ride-height adjustable springs are like 350-400 bucks, and AGX are like 400 bucks. 800 bucks for that, 800 bucks for Tein Basic, or a little more for the JIC. Plus GC comes in any spring rate you want in 25 pound per inch increments. I think this setup is more versatile than the Basic although i still think tein is the way to go..i dont know why. Maybe it's cause they're tein. I'd definitely go all of the above over RSR cause of ride height adjustability and the pillow ball mounts.

I know what GCs are... how can you say from my response that I don't? Reason I did not include GCs are because there aren't any good shocks w/ a reasonable price IMO to match well w/ those - $400 for GC + $420 for AGX (or more for KONI or GAB) would be the same price as the Tein basic and $100 less than the JIC FLT A1 ($999 at enjukuracing). I really like the JIC FLTA1s but it all depends on what prices I get for them from a friends shop.
It really comes down to a matter of $, with KYB+rsr being the least expensive and JIC FLTA1 being the most. However despite the fact the JIC FLTA1 for $999 at enjuku is a great deal, it might be a bit overkill for my purposes for a mostly street driven car, and I don't like the down time involved with overhauling coilover shocks. But if I can get a good deal on the JICs, then they will be my 1st choice.

i myself have AGX paired with RSR race springs. very nice ride,i love em. my friend has the ground controls with custom 8kg/ 6kg spring rates, the GC are a lil more bumpy, also the height adjustability isn't that great of a range. 0-2 inches, which is a tiny drop for a stock 240. though the rsr are like a 1.6 inch drop the actual drop is about 2.25. there was a website that has kyb agx for really cheap about 299 , and u can get the RSR from a guy on ebay named driftesales or sumthin like that he has them for like 239.99 shipped. i use these for drifting and just some spirited driving, good set up for the cash. don't bother purchasing the low end tein stuff, because even the high end isnt that greatly constructed. JIC all the way if ur pockets are deep enough.
