Midrange brake pads

I'm needing to replace my rear pads and rotors soon. I'll get some Brembo blanks from NOPI, but need advice on pads. WHat's got a decent bite without wearing too much on the rotors? Something quiet is nice as well, but not as vital :-) I hear a lot of folks recommend Porterfield R4s, but I'm a poor broke student so the $75 for the rear axle is a bit beyond me :P

Right now I'm figuring KVRs from PDM.

no such thing is "midrange" it comes down to operating temperature for your driving conditions.

I have ONLY used axxis metal masters, i love them.

well, did try the axis ultimates but i didnt find any major benefits other than no need for warmup.. but whatever, i think the metal masters are PERFECT street pads and very cheap.

remember, CHANGING pads is more important than buying an expensive set and waiting for them to wear beyond 40%.

Wear items like tires and pads, rotors, etc.. should be dumped once they get old and worn because they loose their effectiveness.. old brakes get hotter and dont grip as much. old tires get hard and dont grip as much.. etc etc

Personally, I'd only used stock pads and rotors, as I had the hookup on them ($25/set rotors and $15/set pads for the stock parts) and I had PLANNED on going with the Brembo rotors and EBC pads, which were the best of what I had heard of anyone actually having... My plans included doing all of this in mid-June, then something happened... I totalled the car, and my jaw, left eye, right shoulder, and DAMN close to my life with it... I don't have the car now and have yet to replace it, but the plans when I get thse double time OT checks in january when I do REPLACE it all include the braking setup I was set on before my attempt at vehicular suicide...

I got a set of Hawk brake pads on the front, I am very pleased with them. I bought them from RX-7 Trix (http://www.rx7trix.com) (I know its called RX-7 Trix, but they are starting to speacialize in 240's) Got a the front set for $52.

Arright, what about breaking in? Unfortunately, because my rotors are now below spec and my pads are just about to the wear indicators, I don't think I'll be able to avoid breaking in the new rotors on new pads. I know to give the rotors a good cleaning before installing, and to try and go easy on them for the first few hundred miles. . . Any other suggestions?
