Hi all,
I'm changing the stock wheels and suspension on my DD S13 hatch and have decided to get Enkei RP-03s (http://www.enkei.com/rp03.html) and Godspeed coilovers. For the wheels I'm looking at 17x8 +40, and the closest example I found on RimTuck is this:
RIMTUCK.com - Setup (http://rimtuck.com/setup/view/852)
The uploader of that setup says he put it on there as an example of "what NOT to do"... why? Granted it's not slammed with negative camber, rolled/pulled fenders, and spacers (none of which I want to do on this daily driver). Flushness looks alright. What do you think of this setup?

Why exactly?

Because he has giant sidewall'd tires, tons of fender gap and skinny ass wheels.
Oh and they look ghey.

sounds legit to me
and for why:
most people appreciate a stance that is visually appealing vs stock fitment, plus honestly a car with a wider track tends to drive better and be more responsive to steering input.

Since I'm old I'll give another view point. I don't think it would be too bad. But +40 on 8" wheel may be close to hitting the coilovers.
For something in between "toiletflush" and "sunken battleship" look for +25 or so offset. Or get 10, 15, or 20mm spacer on the +40 wheels.

the 16x8+20's on my wife's coupe look decent, yet the fitment was not too aggressive.
why not grab the 17x8.5+30 in that wheel you like?? That way you can either just bolt them on as they come, or slap on a 15mm(10mm?) spacer for a more flush look.
Good luck.

Take into consideration the rear view of an S13. Skinny wheels make everything look funny. Just because you can slap a spacer on doesn't mean JUST being flush will look just as good.
Also, judging by his knowledge on the pic and not knowing what's wrong he probably won't be going low enough not to truely see the rear tires from behind.

When you don't care about wheel fitment, you have way more wheel choices!

Ha I knew the Godspeed coilovers would get a comment eventually. ManoNegra have you actually driven on them?

I'm thinking about that size too. I'm after the widest wheels I can get without rubbing the coilovers and having to resort to fender mods. Will 8.5" +30 clear both front and back?

I completely agree and was curious to hear others' main gripes with that setup. I don't think this is a matter of "knowledge" since everyone has an opinion on good appearance.
Thanks for the replies.

A 9 +25 will fit up front without hitting your coilovers. A higher offset then that will hit.
An 8 +40 will have 2mm less inner clearance.
R33 GTR wheels are probably the best stock/non aggressive fitment wheels out there. They are 17X9 +30, so you'd need to run a 5mm spacer up front and you'll need to roll your fenders.

Agreed. If you want a "dd" that you can throw ugly ass wheels on with horrible sizes and wheel gap.. Get an accord.
BUT everyones intitled to their own opinions, and its whatever you think looks nice. People will give you shit no matter what you drive or do to your car.

Good to know, thanks. To be clear, I don't want a lot of fender gap (that's why I'm getting coilovers) or big tires. I asked what is wrong with the rimtuck setup for opinions on the wheel size and fitment.
I want as aggressive a wheel width and stance as I can get without fender mods and definitely without negative camber - that makes zero sense for a daily driver.

A 9 +25 will hit the coilovers. You need at least a +20 or less and that will still hit some coilovers depending on the brand. I have 9 +16 and have a 1/4" clearance with kei offoce coilovers.
With an r33 gt-r wheel you will need at least a 10mm spacer to clear the coilovers.

rhetorical question?

what?
you know that -2 front and -1.5 rear is considered the conservative-performance-minded camber set up for 240s right?

really depends on coilover bracket but that's about right

9+15 is perfect size for a not so aggressive fitment without modifications besides a minor roll. +40 Offset is honda territory.
Reference: Old car. think the front had a 5mm spacer. (Black car)

Most of all coilovers are made in china, a few are assembled in Japan.
Put your trust in R&D, not whether or not a monkey can correctly put together something repetitively and sell it for cheap.

Sigh... that was supposed to be "crazy negative camber" not just "negative camber". Reacting and replying like this is a waste of space. It's not even an answer, you're just cluttering the thread with more lolz and emoticon garbage. I remember when acting like a snarky teenager on a public forum was cool - that's what the 1990s were for.
Thanks to those that posted helpful information.

This is zilvia.. Expect to get a lot of childish remarks. Especially to a question like that. YOUR the one cluttering the forum by posting "ohhh whats wrong with this set-up guys?" Its a question of opinions. Pointless. Only that matters is your opinion. Have a nice day.
