View Full Version : no brakes
So my right rear caliper started to leak around the piston. Bought two rebuilt calipers from NAPA bolted everything back together. Bleed the calipers and thought I was good. Jumped in the car and the pedal was stiff. Started her up and the pedal went straight to the floor, rebleed everything something straight to the floor. I have been gravity bleeding for the past 3 hours just came from the garage and I have the same problem it seems that there is just no pressure building. I have replaced crush washers and banjo bolts. If you pump the pedal pressure does build but its only temporary. any help-would be greatly appreciated

Master cylinder, the brake booster only assists power brakes even if it went out the brakes would still work, the pedal would just be super hard to push down.
Hope that helps with your problema

Agreed ^^ Master cylinder

He said they go stiff so its more than likely not the master cylinder. You dont have the calipers on backwards do you?

Definitely agree with jacobs13 on this one. Why would the master fail randomly? It worked before. Sounds like calipers are backwards. It's embarrassing, but i've done it too. The bleeder valve should generally point skyward. Also it's not a bad idea to load dry caliper with fluid before installation.

my stock master cylinder failed randomly before. But I also upgraded to z32 brakes when it did. I had the z32 mc so i just threw that on after.

You dont need brakes, they'll only slow you down.

downshift to slow down.

LOL!
If you don't have a leak somewhere, you must just have to fill up the calipers more...
Brakes are simple -> no fluid, no brakes
I agree about the brakes only slowing you down but I need to stop sometimes... I took the master off last night and its not leaking I've also checked all the lines, the bleeder is facing up. I am wondering if I need thiner crush washers. I tried to bench bleed the calipers but the fluid just sat there, they are filled now with all the gravity bleeding. Anyone else have any other ideas?

Wow, lmao. That's so awesome, it's almost philosophical. In a bad, very dangerous kinda way.

I still wouldn't change the mc yet. Try this bleeding technique that a buddy showed me. Loosen bleeder valve on one caliper. Using a rubber glove (insert dirty joke here) put a finger over the valve and seal it. Then have a buddy pump the pedal SLOWLY! Keep the valve open the whole time, and of course keep your finger over the valve. Once the bubbles stop, close valve and bleed normally. It might not work for the issue you're having now, but it's good future reference, cuts bleeding time in half.

Forgot to add, do same technique to other caliper before bleeding both normally. Good luck.
