I would say just dont- get a coupe. Coupe is lighter and more rigid. Verts have their own unique set of issues in general, S13 verts have their own unique issues in specific. At some point, the top is going to go down and might not go back up. Imagine that scenario if you plan on DD'ing an almost 20 year old car on a seemingly nice day that turns into a rainy day. They are cool cars but its kind of like the best part of having one short of being able to drop the top is just to say you have one.

S13 verts are only cool if you ALWAYS drive with the top down. Top up, they look like vomit. Odds are that you'll need a roll bar for any track stuff.
Other than that, they're like a normal S13...

convertibles in general look like ass with the top up, with a few exceptions...

hmm I like my s13 vert a lot. It's the reason I got it. people don't see many anymore so they always double take.
Yes they are heavier. pigs at around 3400lbs. but whatever, I enjoy it. :trogdor:

More like 3100-3200lbs, but you can feel the extra weight and chassis flex. Still fun and interesting cars, especialy the more rare they get. Not sure I can recommend one for a DD though.

The biggest con is that it is a vert.

Friend has a vert and he loves it. If your willing to deal with the little problems get it! Take the brain off the whip now it don't make no sense.
Buy a coupe, cut the top off, have someone make a carbon fiber hard top.
Best of all worlds.

I heard that the convertibles werent made by Nissan, but instead made stateside by a third party that converted coupes fresh off the boat. Not sure if that's actually true, but I do know that is the story for the s15 varietta, they were all converted by autech.
Its is true. My buddy just picked up a 94 vert and there is a stamp on the drivers door stating the company that modified the car and that it meets all standards and regulations for a U.S. convertible.
I also believe the company is here in California if I recall correctly

Yes, the third-party conversion company is/was American Specialty Cars of California.

Leaks are part of maintenance, if you maintain it, and fix the leaks, it won't leak...
If that's your only issue, it's pretty flimbsy :D

I have a vert as well. I loved it. The quarter windows drove me crazy but that was the only problem I had with mine.
Do not use it as a drift car. Coupe and hell even a hatch is better. It takes way more work, trust me and I tried, Now I am stuck with a vert chassis that sadly will be going to the scrap yard. Unless I can find someone that wants to buy a vert that has not top, interior has been cut up and is ready for a full cage and a track car...
As a DD it was a very fun car. Im looking at upgrading to a 300zx vert when I get back from Iraq and after I part out my vert. Gotta make room in the garage first.

i would imagine that due to the lack of a roof, it takes more work to make the chassis stiffer. most verts have extra support in the doors, but they still flex more than a regular chassis of the same car.

Im taking about my personal experiences. If you want to make a vert a drift car you will need a cage. Lets compare a coupe to a vert, stock for stock. Which one do you thank has a stiffer chassis? Having owning a s13 vert and a s14 I can tell you that my stock suspension s14 handles better then my lowered vert. In the state that my vert is in, which is basically just a shell right now. I have decided for personal reasons just to go a different route.
If you would see it and have helped me with all that I have done to cut weight on the vert you would understand what I mean. Before I took it apart the vert weighed in at 3180 lbs without me and that was after I did the door pillar delete mod. That mod itself takes around 80 lbs off by itself. I still have a shit more crap I could cut out. I was going to go "roadster style" and not run a top at all. I planned on cutting everything out that held the top in. I have already cut out all the back seat supports. That was about 50-60 lbs. Taking the rear quarter panels out cut another 20 lbs.
Here is a link to my thread on CarolinaNissans.com Feel free to look at the pics of everything that I did.
