Well with this insanely cold weather, and for what ever reason they decided to have school with the icey road conditions, I was going outside this morning to start my car. I insert the ONLY key I have for my car, try to unlock, and the m0f0 snapped in half! Is there anyway Nissan can make me a new key by providing them with my VIN #?

I hate this weather! :bash:

not likely. I've tried to get a key cut for a 93 240sx by VIN and they couldn't do it. I had to give them the key code in the glovebox.

get the other half of the key out and bring the 2 pieces to a locksmith.
i had to do this once. some locksmiths will tell you to piss off. many will just do it.
nissan wont do it from vin# unless you have a 97 or newer car.
they may tell you to buy a lockset. (what they told me at a local dealer)

Thanks for the replies guys!

Mr. Meph: I just got done breaking into my car with a clothes hanger to look in the glove box. All I saw was a white sticker stating the weight capacity and tire inflation stuff. Where was the key code at in your glovebox???

S13Madness: Looks like this is my only option, how much did you pay for the locksmith to make a key from the two peices?

Uiuc240: What is a valet key?

they can cut keys based upon the lock, they take a wax molding of it.

try calling a locksmith who comes out to your home

weird, my key broke off in my hatch yesterday too!
there was one tiny piece holding it together so I bent it back so it resembled a key and it still slid into and out of the ignition so I drove it home and got my spare keys.

btw, ALWAYS have a spare key somewhere.

Spray silicone lube vigorously into all key holes when it gets cold as a rule

i have a tag on one of my keychains that says X # # # # which is a key code

Funny story.

Once my locks were frozen (forgot to lube) and i was blowing into the keyhole, i rolled my lips under my teeth to avoid the wet part of my lips touching the metal. It was very cold. well. My tounge (HOW THE HELL DO YOU SPELL TOUNGE?) touched the keyhole and got stuck there. In a busy parking lot
