ok so i'm selling my OEM hood, and want to upgrade to a more aggressive hood, i'm thinking about this
VIS Racing Sports 1989-1994 Nissan S-13 Drift Style Carbon Fiber Hood (http://www.carbonfiberhoods.com/vis-racing-sports-1989-1994-nissan-s-13-drift-style-carbon-fiber-hood.html)
but i can't find SHIT, on how it fits, does anyone know? or does anyone know if there is a fiberglass dmax copy version somewhere? i'm just going to paint over the carbon fiber...
does carbon fiber maybe fit better than fiberglass?
lemme know asap guys!

Ask seller to provide high detail pics of hood mounted on car.
nothing will fit perfect, not even the high dollar Japanese stuff.
Ven within brands, the hoods fit differently from eachother. If youre going to paint it, Id say get something fiberglass as its going to be cheaper and will allow you/your painter to straighten it out a bit.
weight difference between carbon and fiberglass is there but negligible. Both are lighter than steel, either one is an improvement in weight savings over the oem counterpart.
An important addition is some good quality hood pins, carbon fiber and fiberglass aren't the strongest materials and around edges their lack of strength shows most. A factory hood latch will eventually make its way through the carbon/fiberglass of the safety latch and there goes that.

Pretty sure I just traded someone a stock hood for one of these in terrible condition + cash. (i wanted to keep my shell complete so he gave me the hood)
The fitment isnt bad but it is cracked in multiple places and from what I was told and saw, it rubbed on his SR valve cover enough to wear off the paint.
I dont know how the hood was brand new but seeing how messed up this one is I wouldn't buy one new thats for sure.
Not sure if there the same hoods but they look similar.

i just don't know if i wanna sell my OEM hood to downgrade? i almost feel like i'de regret selling it, for a carbon fiber one.. but someone wants to buy it for $400, soo if i go out and buy a carbon fiber one, i'll just have to add 200 bucks, i'm not sure if it will look better though...
anyone know where to buy knock off dmax hoods? fiberglass? i don't like the idea of carbon fiber, but this vis one is the only "cheap" one with the style i like...

If it doesnt fit theres a shop in Springfield that can fix it for a pretty reasonable price.

Dmax hoods are hit or miss
I dont know if Koguchi has silvia hoods but they 180sx fitment is pretty fucking good.
It also depends on other body panels, if your fenders fit janky cause of wire tuck the hood won't be perfect. Also if the frame is kinda tweaked from drifting/accidents, but thats pretty obvious
and for some reason, when vendors provide pics the shit fits 100x different than it does on normal cars.

have a shop mold make a copy of the hood and buy the "rivet vents" and have em mold it on
laying fiberglass flat isn't ridiculously expensive

damn!! yeah i see what you mean about fitment, lol
to prevent the hood from hitting the VC did you try spacing the hood at the hinges?
and how much did you pay shipped for that bad boy.?

i didnt try to move the hood up in the back because i really dont like that look and the built-in vent sits about 1.5 inches higher than the oem hood and i can barely see over it now.
the only other thing i couls do would to lower the engine down more, but i already lost one oil pan to a man hoole with the nismo mounts so id rather keep the engine where its at and mold a bubble into the hood.

Nothing fits like OEM.
Some people might think a hood fits great, while others might think it fits horribly. It is all subjective on how picky you are, how much time you have to massage it to fit properly, and whether or not your fenders/bumpers fit properly.

just cut a vent into your hood and mold it there with fiberglass..? there's videos of how to do everything yourself, youtube FTMFW

Its on main street near Joey's Pizza. My buddy had an RX7 and bought a fiberglass hood for it and it fit TERRIBLE. We took it in there and they had it fitting like a glove for around $200-250 (its been a pretty long time I cant really remember). The shop doesnt look like much and I would have never gone in there, but the guys at Welbys recommended them and it turned out great. But I dont know if you want to spend all that on top of the price of the hood in the first place.

I bought a seibon carbon fiber hood and I'm that happy with it.
the hood latch isn't working (building the car) so i can't shut it completely. but the gaps are no more than oem and i've had zero issues with placement.

i know it's not the best picture, if you'd like i could take more and pm you them.

My S13 Silvia VIS carbon hood fit great. I'd recommend one for sure. It was an oem style hood, but the fitment was spot on.
The only thing that would really mess up the fitment is warping while it's off the car or using your hood prop excessively. I suggest when you do prop it up to prop it in the middle.

Dmax hoods are hit or miss.
I have heard this also but when it comes to S14 Zenki bonnets its usually a miss. Seems like every Zenki has the same problem with the passenger side headlight area, not flush. And if you have Clear Headlight Covers its even worse.
But I do love the D-max!

what do you mean by vent covers? My dmax hood's vents original weren't fully cut out, so the bottom of each vent has a lip that might stop a little water.
That half cut-out vent holes pissed me off too because it looks cheap and restrictive for air flow. also I know other quality brand hoods(siebon) fully cut out their vents. seriously a bullshit hood for the price.
Just to talk about the OP's post, I have had a VIS hood in the past. For the most part it fit fine, but when you really looked at it, the hood was shorter than what it should have been. It didn't fit right because of that, so the front end would look awkward.

thanks for all the input guys! im just going to try and find vents to add to an OEM hood, lol
i'm such a perfectionist, so i know if something didn't fit on right, it would bug the shit out of me every time i look at the car..
OEM DOESN't LOOK TOO BAD I SUPPOSE....

I have to disagree on the nothing fits perfect comment. My JUN hood fit.....perfect. But then again the quality is outrageous. Made upon order, hand laid fiberglass and molds are only used 10 times before discarded. They don't make a ton and have them sitting in a warehouse. Its pretty much a FRP replica of a stock silvia hood with the vents added. VIS is a mass producing company, who knows how many times they use a mold before discarding. In my experience, VIS is junk. It will not fit perfect and may have some random spots of sub par quality. But you get what you pay for and it depends on what your going for. Most people wont pay over a grand for a hood and wait 4 months for it to be made and shipped from japan. But when you get it.....you see why you spent the extra money.
