Thank you for taking the time to view this. I truly appreciate the help.

I've got series 1 RB25 in my S14.

Just now, i was driving down the street and all of a sudden i started to hear what sounded like "clicks" (don't know where from) and all of sudden i see my Check engine light comes on and goes off really fast so it was flashing, lost all power to the engine, no more power steering and brakes were very hard to press.

I tried starting my car and all i hear is it crank over but will not start! I have checked the ignition fuse in the engine bay as well as the electrical ign 7.5A fuse in the driver side kick panel. I also checked fuel pump fuse to make sure it was getting fuel; i can also hear the fuel pump buzz and turn on when i turn the ignition to "on" so i knows it's getting fuel. What it sounds like is that my engine is not getting spark. I'm thinking it's my ignitor chip! This past week i have been having "stuttering" problems when hitting 5k RPM, it would stutter very badly like it would lose power then come back, so i searched the forums and found out it's almost due to the coil packs. I'm thinking that the problem i have now is related to that problem.

How can i test if the ignitor chip is working? Would sticking a screw driver in one of the coil packs while trying to crank the car prove that it is in fact getting spark if the screw driver shoots sparks? If the ignitor chip was bad, it wouldn't start correct? I'm at a HUGE loss her, as i can't get to a from work! This is my only car, so im stressing big time.

Any input would be truly appreciated. What would you guys check in this situation? It's probably something small, but I'm stumped!

check ECU for codes. If you dont know how, Google it.

Sticking a screw driver in a coil pack is not a good idea. Use a Spark plug, ground it out and you can see if its getting spark.

Thanks for the input!

I know how to check for codes via the ECU, however my ECU does not have the DIAG LED on it so i wouldn't know how to go about reading what code it's pulling.

I'm not sure what you mean by ground out the spark plug. I will try all this tomorrow. I'm pretty sure the 300ZX ignitor chip is the same, i tried 3 of these all with no avail, however i just plugged them into the harness without grounding out the ignitor itself.

What he means is while the coil pack is connected to the harness, pull out the coil pack out of the engine and stick a spark plug into the coil pack. Then have a friend crank the car while the coil pack and spark plug is together and tap it against a screw driver. You can see if there is spark. DO NOT HOLD THE SCREW DRIVER. Just place screw driver across your valve cover.

some ECU's will flash the code through the Check Engine light.

put spark plug in coil pack.
ground threads of spark plug to chassis
crank engine and check for spark

Z32 Ignitor is the same

Thanks guys! I'll try this when i get home tonight. Does the ignitor need to be grounded? I'll check tonight to see if my ECU will flash the code through the check engine light.

Also check the condition of your plugs... you'll notice if they're not getting any fuel or getting flooded without spark.

There is a ground wire on the Coil Pack or Igntior hanress (cant remember) that runs towards the back, Make sure its bolted down

Yeah there is a ground wire on the coil pack harness, for some odd reason it's bolted down to the head of the engine. Shouldn't it be grounded to the firewall?

@CoolWhip
Thanks for the input! Ill make sure to check these out tonight, however my car does reak of gas so im thinking it's not getting spark but will know for sure when i pull the plugs tonight.

Sounds like a relay went out.

Check your big fuses under your hood as well. Enginge Cont fuse (its like a 25a) etc.

Also, this is often over looked. Make sure your harness to your ecu is in tight. My swap would not start because even though it was bolted down it still was not all the way snug.

Thanks dude!
The relay that controls ignition is next to the ECU correct? the two blue relays? If so, my car didn't come with them when i purchased them, but my buddy used a brown relay from an S15 which he said would only need 1 of these to act as 2 of the blue ones. Hopefully if it is just a relay, i have those lying around. I have checked the big fuses under the hood but didnt see any broken ones. I'll double check to make sure.

Thanks guys for all the input. I truly appreciate the help. The forum is great because of guys like yourselves.

Ill go ahead and try all these suggestions when I'm off work tonight. I'll report back and let you guys know my findings. Again, i truly appreciate it.

My EGI fuse blew! It was as simple are replacing a fuse.
Could have sworn i checked every fuse last night, tho it was getting a bit dark so could really see to well.

Thanks everyone for the advise. Hopefully now i can source the where the problem is and whats causing it to blow.
