Hi Guys,

I just finished my 5lug conversion on my s13. I put z32 wheels on it, used z32 NA rear hubs and put NISMO studs for 300zx int he fronts on my Attain hubs.

I was wondering if any of you knew what torque I should put on the lug nuts, I dont' want to damage the threads.

The FSM for the S13 says 72-87, but those are for steelies, and 4lug.

Thanks

Yup, 80lbs. is just fine

Trust me, anymore than that and you'll start breaking studs. I've had 2 snapped studs on my car...

Yikes!

they will snap? Thanks guys, I did 70 the lower end of the suggested range, but i'll put it up to 80.

It kept turning, and I was wondering when it was going to stop turning and the torque wasn't going any further up, turns out it was the double sided tape being squished (i used them to center the spacers). I was afraid i was killing the studs with just 60 ft-lbs torque.

Thanks for the info, i'll ramp it up to 80.

Well, they wont break right off,...

But if you over-torque them, the next time you need to take your wheel off, the lug nut wont really loosen and in your efforts to get it loose, it will break off with part of the lug bolt inside.

This happened to me tonight...

you'd have to waaaay overtorque it to snap the stud. You could probably go 100lbs/ft and still be able to get it off, especially with impact tools. On our torque sheet at work, Nissan reccomends 85 lbs/ft for this application. :D Although if you are worried, 80 would be fine.

Damn, I was taught to torque down lug bolts around 100 ft/lbs. I usually do 95 all the time on my 240. Never had a problem yet. Until I accidentally wasn't paying attention and put my impact wrench on forward instead of reverse and tightened the crap out of one of my lugs and broke the wheel stud.

i've always heard from tire specialists that 95lbs is right when you increase your wheel size and/or low profile tires. Even a nissan mechanic at a local dealer told my folks to torque my mom's maxima's rims to 95lbs. i torque mine at 95, and so does my best friend. Haven't broke a stud yet, but maybe i'm riding on luck.

i am between 85-90 always. never had problems in 1.5 years of track time. never broken a stud or stripped a nut.
