So who here is a fan of this awesome role playing game series? Thought it was appropriate that we have a thread to discuss any cheats or upcoming add-on that may ensue. It's slated to be out on 11-11-11.

get the pc version.. i still play oblivion from time to time, community mods make the game really stand out over the years, though oblivion wasn't coded for multi core processors, it kind of lags on alot of systems when heavily modified.

I crafted tons of cheap items, Iron Daggers and Leather Bracers. Once you clear Blackreach and that area, go around and pick up all the Dwarven stuff that you can smelt, make the dwarf bars and craft as many of the cheapest dwarf stuff you can. I chose the bow, which I also upgraded to sell for more gold.

Just found this, figured I'd share it with you guys. There's also the second word for Whirlwind Sprint at the same location.

I think I restarted Fallout 3 a few times because I wasn't satisfied with some early decisions I made.

irax

The UI system makes this game almost not worth it to get for the PC. I don't know how the save data works for the PS3/360, but how it works for the PC is pretty much bullshit. This is a game you are going to go through multiple times, with different characters, but yet all the save data goes into one big folder with no organization. Character save files would of almost made up for the UI system.

The fact that this game scores 9/10 in most review sites is just retarded. Honestly this game is more of a humble 7.5/10. Its mostly the Fallout 3 style gameplay that is holding it back for me. I would rate it lower if it didn't look really good, and tell a good story. If the story wasn't interesting I wouldn't even bother.

tgd89
11-14-2011, 02:08 AM
There's a save manager mod somewhere I think, and the UI's fine in my opinion; oblivion's was a mess. Besides the quick kill thing, the gameplay seems more cleaned up, everything is there but less clunky.

irax, purely this game deserves a high rating compared to COD MW3 which is the same shit as the older games/and that game menu is simplistic as hell/shitty outdated lol.

You get used to it.. I always press F5 every now and than to quick save.

Want to change your characters appearance? open up console ~ , and type "show racemenu" or "show race menu" whichever one it was. Though I don't remember if finishing changes will delete your stats (in oblivion, I would just make the changes, and instead of clicking done, id open up console than tab to menu, save, than load up that save, this avoids the stat delete while changing the character).

Wait til the modding community blows up, oblivion is still pretty cool after mods

LoneStarSilvia
11-14-2011, 07:14 PM
Hmmm, maybe I should try dual wielding axes sometime. Right now rocking either fire/frost in the lefty and an axe in the right has been working well for me.

I just enrolled in the Winterhold college, hoping my magicka gets nice boost and score some nice weaponry later on.

zo0d
11-14-2011, 08:02 PM
I usually dual wield one handed weapons. Right now I have a sword that absorbs 10 stamina and 10 HP per hit and an axe that absorbs 15 magika per hit. Nice.

Tip: I would encourage all of you to find a companion to travel with you. Not so much for their support in battle, but to carry your loot. Those dragon scales/bones really add on the weight.

cc4usmc
11-14-2011, 08:03 PM
Why is it that you guys decide to go magicka+one hand? Seems like it'd make more sense to go one or the other, that way you're not having to split your points between different areas.

My magicka by itself isn't very strong yet, so I use that for a mid-range attack to soften their defense (fire makes the enemy more take more physical damage), then when they come close I continue the magicka barrage and smash 'em with an axe.

They are used to forge dragon armor. You need to have Smithing at 100 though.

It looks badass!

An easy way to get Smithing to 100 is to buy/find as much leather strips and iron ignants as you can and build iron daggers. It only requires one of each. If you decide to buy all of it, it ends up costing you about 6-8k.

It's not really splitting unless you are counting the perks. I use double hand magic mostly but sometimes its nice to be able to block and attack and use the sword while the magic recharges.

Yep. Buy up every single empty petty soul gem you find on vendors, and obviously pick up all the ones you can. I have like 40+ gems in my inventory that I'm saving to enchant items with just to sell. Shame it's going to be a pain to sell it all. I noticed the other night that for some reason, my grand and black soul gems were being filled with low level souls. Lame.

Anyone know any tricks to leveling speech? I'm at the point where the trainer wants 1800g for just one level.

I have not run across any better healing spell yet either, the best I manage to do is dual cast healing. Seems to work pretty fast. Switching is a pain though, especially in the thick of battle when it messes up and you end up punching instead of casting.

Head over to the Briar Meadery in Riftin. Speak to the dark elf at the counter. Start talking to him about Maven and persuade him to tell you what he really thinks of her. You can keep asking him the same question over and over. Leveled up from 20 to 100 in about 30min.

My PC loads scenes in what seems like less than half the time of the xbox version. That alone makes it the version to get IMO. Console load times on this game suck so bad, can't imagine playing like that.

Anyways, I'm super into this game right now. Been playing it for about an hour or so a days since I got it, which is a lot for me. Some thing I noticed:

Enchanting/Smithing are still overpowered. They are too easy to level and pretty much make the game a breeze. Not quite as broken as enchanting was in Oblivion, but spells are still pretty much second fiddle.

I miss the clothing from oblivion. The enchanting mechanics in Skyrim mean you pretty much have to wear armor where in Oblivion you could wear clothing enchanted with elemental shields and still get to a decent armor level.

All in all though I'm diggin this game.

It can be difficult in the beginning when you don't have much magic. Since I don't have a shield I have to dodge attacks, plus side though is I can hit enemies from far. I have literally had to circle around an object like a table to regain mana before I could finish an enemy off.

Once you get the powerful spells you can clear an entire room pretty quickly. Chain lighting will jump from person to person, so dual casting it usually hits with enough force to kill most opponents on the spot and other standing beside.

Ice Spear is another good. Shit will impale people and even after their dead they will have a big ass spike sticking out of them.

They were a handful when they all ganged up on me, but I managed to seperate them and take them down 1 by 1. This is the single best quest to get those rare Daedric hearts to upgrade your Daedric armor. After completing her quest, you have the option to ask her to follow you.

cast soul trap on them, or have it enchanted to a weapon, if you have an empty gem the soul will automatically fill it.

Find enchanted weapon.
Go to enchating table.
Disenchant weapon (learn enchantment, but destroy's weapon).
Choose weapon you want to enchant.
Choose filled soul gem you want to use (the larger the soul, the stronger the enchantment).
Choose the duration/power of the enchantment (less power = more uses before recharge, more power = less uses before recharge).
Create.
Kill.

Enchantment strength is also based on your enchanting skill level so if it's low then using a good gem still ends up with a weak enchantment.

I don't know what you're doing wrong with the 2nd part. Mammoths should give grand souls and giants give greater souls IIRC. Yeah, mammoths have bigger souls than the giants LOL.

Depends on your own personal preference. There are many possibilities and outcomes you could have character wise.

Playing as Warrior\Thief\Mage are the three typical choices, just gotta figure out which one you like playing as the most.

Personally I like sneaking around and stabbing people behind the back for a nice critical damage bonus, and often times killing them with one slash.

K, I got a question. Flying dragons out of Whiterun, how the hell do you start a fight with them. This is the 2rd flying one I've encountered after the first at the watch tower (so 3rd dragon). The 2nd one was flying around and decided to fight a giant. This 3rd one is just flying around, tried to initiate a fight by trying to hit it with an arrow but ofcourse thats almost impossible when I'm so low. Any pointers?

I had one yesterday that wouldn't land near Falkreath. I saved with it in the sky near me, then just reloaded my save file. I got it to land (or at least hover) and took it down with lightning bolt dual cast (with a stun effect)

First time at the college in Winterhold I ran into one in the courtyard. Only noticed it because other mages started to attack it.

I'm not positive, but I think there are generic Dragons that will pop up randomly and then there are Dragons that are named and can be found only at their 'grave' or whatever you want to call it. I haven't been on in a while but I think I have at least 8 souls that are unused lol.

Yes after slaying the first dragon, there's only 3 dragons crucial to the storyline that have actual names. The rest hang out at dragon burial sites or shout shrines. The rest usually show up when you fast travel somewhere.

To hell with that, sometimes when you're in the lower stages, they help out even if they're not dealing direct damage. Just them being the enemies distraction is all I really ask for. Especially when an ancient dragon comes flying in, those guys still give me a run for my money. I had a lot of problems with the Falmer when I was lower level too.

Leveling up smithing is based only on the number of items you smith so just craft a ton of the cheapest items. Usually it's leather bracers but if you want to level enchanting at the same time smith iron daggers and buy filled petty soul gems to enchant them. You get more money back from selling enchanted weapons versus selling enchanted armor.

2 days of play time in so far, lvl 15 with orcish greatsword, full exquisite dwemer minus the head. Just got the black star, so I'm dabbling in enchanting now. So far the dragons I've ran into haven't really been all that hard to kill even on master, I have way more trouble with sabre cats and trolls.

Are there any constant shock spells similar to spark that have a bit more range on them? Going pure battlemage without a bow is kind of a pain since I can't take out enemy archers until I'm semi close to shock them and by that time it's just as easy to sprint in and bash their head in with my greatsword.

Yeah you have to up your smithing level. Make iron daggers and then enchant and sell them to level your enchanting too. Then make daedic weapons and armor or dragon armor.

You can buy iron ignots form any blacksmith. Buy the lot and some leather strips and just make a tom of daggers. Then go and enchant them, sell them rinse and repeat.

Word to the wise if you use the banish enchantment you can sell the daggers for a lot of gold.

My base daedric sword does like 240 base damage with another 116 damage in enchantments. Pretty much one shots everything but Ancient dragons.

As far as shock spells you need to up your destruction to 100 then go to the mages college and talk to faralda. She can give you a quest to obtain the master level spells. After you finish that quest you can buy the master shock spell. It is pretty awesome.

So the whole dagger enchantment then sell them deal is how you got yourself to level up your smithing? I'll try that tomorrow...

Yeah pretty much. I made a few things and a about a level 15 when i started. It took me awhile because I got bored with it. But, after about level 50 smithing you can craft some pretty serious shit.

Take every enchanted thing you find in the world, weapons, armor and other gear and disenchant it at the Arcane Enchanter. Learn the effects of the gear and then you can use souls gems to enchant your own gear.

It's good to either lean the soul trap spell or craft a soul trap weapon. I think the weapons are easier for gathering souls enough to level enchanting. You can buy soul gems at the Mages college.

This is all a tedious process so if your patient you do it all in one gaming session or you can do it over a few gaming session.

I liked do all my work at in whiterun due to their being 2 blacksmiths and a Arcane Enchanter in Dragonreach.

Word to the wise you might not want to power level smithing or enchanting untill you already are kinda powerful. By the time smithing and enchanting are leveled to 100 your player level will be somewhere in the 30's or higher. That means enemies you encounter will be pretty powerful.

Also then you have the perk trees. For enchanting I put maxed out perks in the first spot, then went straight up the middle.

For smthing i got the one in the center to improve magic items then i went all the way around to the right if the tree. But, looking back it would of cost less perks if i went through the light armor side of the tree to get to the Craft daedric and dragon items.

Now i used one handed mostly and my one handed stuff is really strong. Also with the last enchating perk you can put 2 enchatments on 1 item.
The way i have it now i can perform and destruction or restoration spell for 0 magicka.

Leveling enchanting and smithing will pretty much make you a beast of done right so becareful you don't wanna the game to get boring.

12-26-2011, 12:56 PM
If you go left on the smithing tree (light armor) you can't loop back to daedric after getting dragon armor. So you're stuck with glass weapons as top.

You don't really need to power level smithing, but I recommend power leveling enchanting. Especially if you're playing on the hardest difficulty. Enchanting is really really strong. Use the trainer at the mage school and just pickpocket him to get your money back.

Future240
12-26-2011, 02:26 PM
Some leveling tricks I found

However, without any pickpocket perks, this only works up to skill level 30 or so. The highest you can go with this "exploit" is level 76. Even with a full complement of pickpocketing perks (Light Fingers 5/5: +100% chance to pickpocket, Night Thief: +25% chance to pickpocket if NPC is asleep, Cut Purse: +50% chance to steal gold), 100 pickpocket, and Thieves Guild armor (+15% pickpocket), and the NPC sleeping, it is usually impossible (0% chance) to pickpocket back the nearly 4k in gold it costs to train skill level 77. You can attempt to use the Unrelenting Force shout to knock down the trainer, and then pickpocket them while they are getting back up (even though the menu still displays 0% chance.) However you should quicksave first as sometimes (though not often) this causes NPCs to attack you.
On the other hand you can put a Paralysis Poison to the NPC's inventory and then steal gold, and it won't attack you.
Also, only 5 skill points may be trained at a trainer per level across all skills. At higher levels, 5 skill increases may not even get you 1/4 of the way through a level. The remaining 10 or 15 skill increases you need to level must still be earned normally. Thus, the spending of 7 perk points in pickpocketing has a fairly shallow return when compared to doing a dungeon crawl or two (at higher levels) for the 25k+ gold you need for 5 training points. Dungeons respawn, but those 7 perk points are forever wasted unless you will otherwise use pickpocket.
[edit]Trainer Followers
There are several trainers who are also permanent followers. In this case, you can have them follow you, ask them to train, and then ask them to trade and take your gold back.
Notably, there are 5 trainers (4 expert: Archery, Block, One-handed, Two-handed, 1 master: Heavy Armor) in the Companions HQ (Jorrvaskr) in Whiterun who will all be your followers after you complete the companion quest line, some of them even earlier. Faendal in Riverwood will also be your follower if you complete his quest in his favor, and he is a common Archery trainer.
[edit]Oghma Infinium
Once you have obtained the Oghma Infinium and have not already used it to gain knowledge (because it normally disappears when you do so), follow these steps to easily gain levels in the 18 Skills:
Activate an empty book shelf to access the book shelf menu.
Find the Oghma Infinium in your inventory, and open it.
Choose any path (The Path of Might to level Combat skills, The Path of Shadow to level Stealth skills, or The Path of Magic to level Magic skills).
Store the Oghma Infinium on the bookshelf.
Leave the book shelf menu.
Activate the Oghma Infinium on the book shelf.
Select (Do Not Read).
Take the book off the shelf
Repeat the above until you are satisfied with the amount of levels you have gained.[1]
Alternate method:
Find an open chest that is not claimed. Cupboards and even pots will work. Open the container Find the book in your inventory and read it, choosing a path. Close the book and store it. Close the container, then open it immediately. Take the Oghma Infinium back out. Repeat.
This have been fixed in the patch 1.3.5.0 (PS3, Xbox 360 checking)
PS3 1.03 Patch Put the book on the shelf exit the menu Then angle the so you can take the book and open bookshelf on one shot repeatedly hit x until your back in bookshelf menu then the path menu should pop up choose and repeat
[edit]Out Of Balance
When you activate the focal points with the Tuning Gloves, you are given a god-like magicka recovery bonus that lets you cast and recover instantly. This can be used to spam expensive spells over and over to gain levels, if given the appropriate circumstance.
[edit]Skill Self-Training

[edit]One- / Two-Handed
On completion of one of the Dark Brotherhood quests, you will get a horse named Shadowmere given to you. Corner or ride horse next to a wall, dismount and beat the hell out of him. He won't fight back and has amazingly high HP and HP Regeneration so your chances of killing him are very slim. To make sure you don't kill him, use an iron weapon of your choice, whether it be one handed or two handed, blunt or blade. You will level up very quickly depending on the level you're at.
[edit]Block / Armor
Have a shield in one hand and Fast Healing in the other and find a decent enemy to beat your shield and or armor while healing. Also helps your Restoration skill.
Enchanting armor and clothing with the Regenerate Health effect and fighting low-level enemies can result in a situation where you regenerate health faster than they deal damage. This allows you to simply leave the game running and come back later, although progression may be slow.
[edit]Heavy Armor
With all perks achievable at 80(unconfirmed without perks) skeever don't even hurt you with a full daedric legendary set. Leveling while sleeping irl etc...
[edit]Smithing
Create Iron Daggers multiple times. All you need are Iron Ingots and Leather Strips. Moves Smithing level up quite quickly if Daggers are made in large quantities. If you are worried about the loss of gold this entails, Leather Bracers can be sold for close to the price of the parts of making them and will give you the same increase in Skill XP as Iron Daggers. 3 pieces of leather have a base cost of 30 (10 each) and can make 2 Leather Bracers for a base cost of 50 (25 each), at low levels of speech you will still lose 3 to 4 gold per bracer, but this is better than the near 20 gold for iron daggers.
Embershard Mine, near Riverwood, and Halted Stream Camp, near Whiterun, are good early-game places to get a lot of Iron Ore. Hides from deer/elk, wolves, bears, etc provide plenty of free leather. Do not buy leather strips, buy leather and break it down yourself.
[edit]Alteration
Use telekinesis and find an object to telekinesis on helps level up alteration fast.
Use "Detect Life" spell in the busiest part of town to level up alteration fast. Eg the market place of Whiterun
Use any Oak/Stoneskin whenever you're in battle. Early on, you'll get a level every time you cast.
[edit]Conjuration
Casting Soul Trap on your own horse will count towards leveling up Conjuration, and the horse will not react at all.
Alternatively, Summon anything stronger than a Familiar, and kill with Bound Swords. When the Summon goes hostile, it counts your Summon and your Bound Sword for your Conjuration skill. Doesn't eat the magicka of Soul Trap, but of course comes with its own hazards.
[edit]Restoration
1. Raise Zombie on any corpse.
2. Cast Turn Lesser Undead, two handed if you can (not combined, it's too expensive, and thus too slow) against the zombie no more than three times.
3. Wait a bit for your mana to recharge or whatever, just wait a little.
Repeat until zombie falls. If the zombie gets a fourth hit, it'll run away making him harder to hit and your magicka will recover a lot slower. Modify to taste (stronger Turn Undead, stronger Reanimate so zombie lasts longer, etc.)
Alternatively, find any constant damage (like fire columns) and continuously heal. A lot slower than the above, but possibly easier to manage.
[edit]Illusion
Casting muffle on yourself repeatedly will level up your Illusion even if there are no enemies around. This method is a bit expensive in magicka.
Cast Courage with both hands on any follower, a seated Jarl, a sleeping person, a static guard, a horse in a stable, anything that doesn't move. Courage is considered friendly aid, so NPCs won't bother with it, and it's cheap, so you are able to cast it more often without waiting for recharge. Just don't cast it on cowardly wildlife...
[edit]Alchemy
Experience granted by creating a potion during alchemy is proportional to the value of the potion created. Fortify carry weight is one of the most valuable potions that can be created, and at lower levels of alchemy, grants an entire level to the skill. When the potion is combined with fortify health (Giant's toe, River betty and Wheat or Giant's Toe, Creep cluster and Wheat) for example whilst wearing equipment enchanted with a 100% bonus towards alchemy, and appropriate perks, crafting this single potion amounts to enough experience to level from 45 -> 46 alchemy. Other potions which are similarly valuable include potions of invisibility, paralysis, and slow.
[edit]Sneak
Find a corner of an inn where you can sneak undetected and paperweight the controller. As you level up, you will probably want/need to move closer to the innkeeper or other character to level up more efficiently.
Alternatively, you can sneak attack any of the Greybeards with the difficulty set to master so they regenerate health faster than you can deal it. This is very effective when they are kneeling in the long hallway.
Stealth-killing 'sleeping' Draugr (you can tell the type, you can't loot them, and often wear armor), or simply sneaking past them, is also a very quick way to level Sneak.
[edit]Speech
Go to Riften and enter the Black-Briar Meadery. Find Ungrien (generally behind the counter) and ask him to "Tell me about Maven Black-Briar." Keep pressing the continue button (A on x360). You should level up every 3 or 4 times you ask him this as you have to "Persuade" him.
However, you will need a minimum skill level of 25 in Speech before using the "Persuade" option, otherwise it will not work. If you do not have a minimum skill level of 25 and you happen to have some spare gold, pay him 77 gold to spill the information, it will still increase your speech until skill level 25 so you can do it for free.

to level up smithing fast: Buy nothing buy iron ingots and leather straps, iron daggers only take 1 of each.

to level up enchanting fast: buy every empty and full soul gem you find. take all those iron daggers you made, and use everything BUT grand soul gems with grand souls in them. enchant the daggers with absorb magica or something, whatever you found sells for the most. wash rinse repeat.

once you get pretty proficient in enchanting, enchant your main killing weapon with 1 sec soul trap... depending on your skill you will have like 500-1000 charges. now everytime you kill something you will fill one of those empty gems you found. then use them to enchant those cheap daggers you made, sell the daggers for like 300g and do it again.

only use grand soul gems to enchant things you will use. do not use them for shit you are gonna sell just to skill up.

if you are feeling real pro, enchant some clothes with +smithing to them iirc you can do a ring, chest, hands, necklace. now everytime you go to upgrade the weapons and armor YOU use all the time it will be (legendary) (epic) status.

what you are ultimately going for in enchanting is the ability to put 2 enchantments on 1 item. so sexy.

be warned tho. using these tricks will make the game almost too easy.

if ya got any questions about this stuff feel free to pm me. i love to nerd out on shit like this and love to help.

It's ok, but selling banish enchanted daggers is way easy to make tons of money.

Easy way to get tons of petty soul gems:

1. Go to someone that sells soul gems like the guy in Dragonsreach and buy all his filled petty/lesser soul gems.
2. Quicksave
3. Attack him until he's hostile (shown as red dot on the HUD) or dead
4. Load your quicksave and his inventory should be reset

Repeat until you get all the gems you need. Only takes a few minutes to get 40-50 petty/lesser soul gems. Do the same trick to a weapon vendor to find a banish enchanted weapon to disenchant. Selling banish enchanted daggers this way = 10k+ gold in 15 minutes.

Been making some serious coin off of the marriage perk? Wait about couple weeks in the game. You'll be making some serious coin.

Dude, thats chump change if you just do quests, and search every URN you find, or learn to lockpick. I'm 90 lockpick. I have a bankroll of 150,000, and lots of magic items stocked up that I can't sell because the merchants run out of money too easy.

150,000? I thought I was doing good at 28k.

I would have gotten the 100k achievement if I would just stop spending thousands at a time buying stuff that I can easily go find in a random bandit cave. I hover around 80k. Is it just me or does it blow to fight mages and vampires? I usually mow through most things but when I get turned into an ice spike pin cushion I go down fast. I'm seriously thinking about making a new set of daedric armor just so I can enchant it with resist frost.

For easy money if need be, just complete the theives guild and do the side missions. Each side mission fetches like 400-600 gold and takes 5 mins
