As far as performance goes, smaller is better. But 18's do look baller on s13's.

not if you have the power..:D

Even if you have the power, you'd move faster with a smaller, theoretically lighter tire. :D
Although, it does look mean to be running 18s and still be quick.

on top of that, the lower profile sidewall would grip less when launching the car

you gotto accelerate, stop, turn, bump, and bounce all that extra weight.
performance aside, prices for replacement tires will be much more money....and the initial purchase of the wheels will be more.
So if you have a grand vision of what kind of performance you want out of your car, and you have a limited budget, bigger wheels will be counter productive in so many ways.
My suggestion would be to make things easy on yourself and stay clear of the 18 inchers.
BUUUUT then if I had taken other people's advice to get a strictly economical car instead of my project s13, my life just wouldn't be as fun to me now would it?!
Do what will make YOU happy. I hope I was able to give you some info that might help with your decision.
Gluck
PS Sidewall is teh sickest!! (trust me, it grows on you and then you love it)
imho 18s are too much on a s13..

18s look HOT on s13s!
but there are downsides as we all know
but for blingin' and rolling around the street/shows etc...18s rock.
i couldnt afford them for track though, tire costs would KILL me..nor do i make even enough power
but then again the signal manager tore it up at DD10 w/ 18 rear, 17s front on his KA powered s14 zenki (black w/ white TE37s) so the '18s are too big for drifting w/ KA' rumor goes out the window.

I want 18's for my car, they look so hot on a lowered s13! Only for the street though...not the track...the cost of tires would kill me if I put the 18's on the track!

Kidynomites 14's > all
Maybe some day someone will step up and go 13's. I doubt it though. It would be too insane.

i have 18's on my s13....yes i know they are crappy koings, but i like the way they look... 18X8's +35 offset and a 10mm spacer.
The sidewall on the tires are so skinny, you can feel everything as you can imagine. Also i am running sportlines with agx's so the ride is very stiff.
Overall i like the way 18's look on an s13, it fits my car because i don't do any type of racing at all, just cruising.
Down side is that the tires cost so much money.
any more questions just let me know.....check my sig for the link to see my car with 18's
Its all a matter of opinion though and what you want to do to the car.

Will 13's even clear stock brakes?
I'm pretty sure 13s will clear stock rears, but I'm not so sure about fronts... That'd be nuts! I want to see someone run 13s at the track. :D
As for 18s - the only benefit is the tighter cornering you'll feel with the smaller sidewall... While I agree that in all (almost?) other aspects you lose performance, I do think that with the right (i.e. bing ass) body kit (deep sides, mean looking front/rear bumpers) 18s look GREAT.
