View Full Version : Do Nissan's Seats have a Lifetime Warranty

Quick Question.
I know seatbelts have a lifetime warranty, because they are part of the safety system of the car. My question is: Are Nissan's seats covered under the same lifetime safety warranty?
I was leaning back in my seat the other day to get my wallet out of my back jean pocket, and the seat back broke. Needless to say, I am pretty pissed and the car is less than safe at the moment. with the seat's recliners in the full upright position the top section of the seat swivels, I assume I sheared the bolts off or broke the section where they mount. Time for some diet and exercise:)
But this really sucks because I am flat broke right now, I guess my only other option if the seat isn't covered under warranty is to swap the back off of the passenger seat.
BTW 89 fastback seat with non adjustable headrest.

I have a feeling they are not covered, but I WISH they are. I want new seats too, as mine are bent to shit as well. They get fatigued over time. Finally, the metal snaps and you're leaning back hoodlum-style. Blah.
Let us know if you turn anything up when you call dealerships or whatever.

Nope, not covered. The seatbelts are reluctantly covered and thats because its an issue of liability. MOTORIZED seatbelts are supposed to last and unfortunately they had so many problems with them and the costs were so high, that they ditched the whole concept. That is why you dont see them on anymore cars.

hmm, that sucks.
I will take it past the stealership on Thursday and see what they can do as far as warrantied work, but I doubt they will do anything. I will probably just swap it for the passenger seat back. Anyone done this before?
Murphy's Law owns me. Car always breaks during Finals when I don't have time to deal with it, and am short on cash.
Thanks for your replies

ive swapped the backs, and bottoms before, just unzip it in the back, and theres 2bolts (14mm??) on each side. real easy to do, just move the seat around till you find the area in the car that has the best clearances.

Update, in case anyone cares.
I called up the Nissan Stealership and talked with the service dept. They said there was no warranty and couldn't fix it for free, no real surprise there.
So I decided to take off the seat back to check out what was wrong. Quite easy, the hardest part was bending the staples, to get the fabric off, but thats just because I had to do it with a screwdriver. Anyway, once I saw the frame, I was expecting to find that the bolts had sheared off, but when I uncovered both sides, they were still there:confused: I removed them with a 14mm socket, and took off the seat.
I was quite surprised at what I found:
This is what the seat should look like. two threaded holes to put thread the bolts into. (This is a shot of the side away from the recliner mechanism)

The threaded part is from a couple nuts welded onto the inside of the frame.http://www.imagestation.com/picture/sraid92/pe6828ce7fc5cbc1ec8c3d6bb5c1a88de/fa5348e5.jpg
Here is the broken side. The nuts sheared right off of the metal, didn't even break the welds.

heres a crappy shot of one of the sheared off nuts (my camera doesn't focus on close small stuff)

I swapped the passenger seat over to the drivers side. So now my passenger seat has no back side. Anyone in the Midwest have a seat for free or cheap?
album here if the pics don't work:

thats exactly what happened to mine!
I took mine down to college maintenance and they made up an extra bracket, drilled the seat out, put some bolts and washers in it for me, free of charge.
good guys.

Yeah, if I can't find a replacement for damn near free, I will probably have to come up with something creative, or just see how many zipties it takes to hold it in place. That, or just go one seater style. Perhaps now there will be some leg room in the rear:D
