I Finally have an accurate speedo, and it goes up to 180MPH (at least theoretically since the car won't go that fast). I thought I would share this solution to my speedo probs. When I bought my car with the SR already installed, The speedo didn't work. I hooked up the speed sensor, and got 2X readings. I swapped in the JDM gauge cluster and still got 2x readings (now in KM). I wasn't sure which speed sensor I needed (OBDI vs OBDII?), so I bought a speedo calibrator from Canadian Automotive Instruments. This electronic device connects inline with the VSS signal, and alows you to set your calibration factor with dip switches. I dialed in a factor of 0.3123 which compensates for 2X readings, KMH to MPH, and my 17" wheels. This was a pretty easy solution and cost $140 shipped. If I hadn't already cut the VSS signal to my ECU, this would have bumped my speed limiter to around 170MPH. I'll post my top speed, when I get a safe chance to open her up.

Your gearing or lack of power is what's going to top you out if you don't have a speed limiter.

Do it at late at night when nobody is around and I hope those tires have a good speed rating on them. And make sure the road is flat as hell or else you might catch some air and kill yourself.

Having the SR running at such a high RPM to get your top speed, would not be such a good idea. You realize how long you going to have to hold it in about 5000 in 5th gear. In 5th your power most likely topped out already, and you going to have to push the sucker hard.

HA! And what are you worried about? I say you push till the car can no longer push! I did that several times with my KA, top speed is about 140 (with speedometer calibrated and converted to 180mph).

Glad to see I am not alone in doing such modifications! ;) Be safe and make sure your car is maintained and running smoothly before attempting your high speed runs though.

Drop a Z32 TT gear box on your Bell housing, and a Z32 TT rear VLSD. Trust me with that set up you can get some serious top end power out of either the KA or SR depending on power modifications. You might actually be able to pick up some serious speeds.
