Hate to leave people hanging with no replies, so i'll tell you the little I know. I am about 70% sure of this, so don't take this as bullet-proof fact.
I think it is more or less just standard vs. optional options. I think more things are standard on the Le where as they would be options on the se (ex: abs, lsd, alloy rims, spoiler, sunroof, etc.) Basically, I think you could get an Se with every available option, but the LE would come standard with almost all of them.
I could give you alot of differences from the base to the se and le if you want. Either one is going to have 5 - lugs instead of the base's 4-lugs. They would both have a slightly "beefier" suspension than the base model. And some things aren't available on the base model (5 -lugs, lsd, and maybe abs).
Hope this is slightly helpful. If you're looking into buying one, just check out all the options.

Hey man!!
Difference between LE & SE...
SE has all power options... cc, ac... pretty much everything.
LE adds... security system, power antenna, leather interior, keyless entry and a moonroof.
I've read that to moonroof is standard on the SE too, but my window sticker has the moonroof on there as an option. So who knows what that means.
As far as ABS and LSD I don't think those were standard on anything.... no too sure about that however. I believe they were options on both the SE and LE. I'm 100% sure on the differences I stated above... (for 97 - 98 years) also the 98 SE isn't avialable with leather whereas the 97 is because the LE was a 97½ rollout.
