View Full Version : Car BROKEN INTO in PASADENA!!! (pics)

I don't know if you all know this but there was a private Drift/Grip event this Friday at Buttonwillow that I was scheduled to go to. This was going to be my second track event and I was really pumped to go to this. About 2 weeks ago I finished getting my car running after doing my KA to newer KA swap. About 2 weeks ago I bought my Bell M2 PRO helmet as well for these events.
I decided that on Thursday I would pack all my tools, helmet, spare steel wheels, motor oil, etc. in my car and go to class at Pasadena city college for my microbio class from 6PM-7PM/Lab from 8PM-10PM and then spend the night at my girlfriends house in south pasadena. Unfortunately I didn't have any cash on me because I used all my cash to mount my tires and I wasn't able to spend a dollar to park in the normal lighted, security guarded parking structure. This was the first time I haven't parked in there and this was the first time I ever had all my shit in my car like this. During the one hour break I had between class I went to my GF's apartment to go get some grub. I came back at 8PM and was in lab til 10PM. I'm walking back to my car which is parked on the street right next to the school and notice glass on the ground near the curb. My first reaction was "Oh shit, I didn't notice the glass when I parked. I wonder if my new Yokohama AVS ES100 tires are OK (especially since I was going to the track tomorrow)." I then look up and notice my passenger window is broken and that glass came from my car.
I proceed to look into my back seat and stomach drops. My helmet, my bucket of random tools (spanner wrenches for coilovers, crescent wrench, 3 quarts of Mobile 1, a bottle of Prestone Coolant, and a bottle of ATE Superblue racing brake fluid) are gone. I then open my trunk and notice that my tool set, that contains ratchets with all the sockets, screwdrivers, pliers and all the shit you need to work on a car are gone as well. In addition, they tried stealing my radio but just managed to break the face off of it. They stole my case of CD's so now I'm stuck listening to the Cure album that is in the radio with no face. And the volume is all low so I can barely hear it. Everytime I'm driving I reach down to turn the volume up but there's NO FACE!!! They didn't even bother to leave it. This isn't a detachable face radio either.
So now I'm down the hole about $1000 dollars in stuff that was in my car all because of these chance events and because my dumbass thought that my car would be safe for an 2 hours while I was gone. So if anyone sees any of this stuff around, please let me know. Fortunately they didn't find my digital camera burried in my bag of clothes.
If anyone knows about this or sees someone selling my shit, let me know. The helmet is very expensive and I doubt that many people have it.
So on top of this, I wasn't able to go to the event. So they in conclusion, they stole all my shit and they stole my track time. Now that is just fucking cold. The kicker is that my insurance won't cover this because I only have liability since I downgraded my insurance after getting a serious speeing ticket a couple of years ago.
If anyone has a passenger side window they are willing to give me a or sell to me, please let me know. You can tell me here or send me an email. Thanks.
Here are the pics.
Probably pried with my own damn screwdrivers.

They were nice thieves. They left me my steelies and FSM so I could drift my car with no helmet and fix my car with no tools. They also left my cheap $30 jack and jackstands.

man i'm sorry to hear this. i assume it wasn't just a random break in, but rather, it was somebody who knows about the 240sx and its sudden popularity. it is very sad that this had to happen. i hope somehow you could get your stuff back, but chances are so slim.
i am a frequent reader of Honda Tech message board and it seems that i read about stolen ITRs all the time. sometimes it's weekly. the owners are so paranoid now and do countless things to ensure the safety of their investment. now that the 240sx is in the bigtime, we are gonna have to keep a much closer eye on our property. i personally have an alarm on my car and havent used it for quite a while. looks like i'll be turning it on tomorrow, hell i think i'll go turn it on tonight.
i believe that thief will get whats coming to him. what goes around, comes around.
p.s. shitty deal with the cd player. :(
arhhh...i hate when things like this happens. i hope you find your stuff back. and keep an eye on ebay for your things.

do you have a car alarm?
I like in a fairly small town and auto theft isnt too apparent here. I never had an alarm before last moth, and in fact my old car you couldnt even lock the doors. My friend bought a gorgeous 1991 CRX Si absolutely mint. It only had 70 000 kms on it. It was parked at the dealership overnight to be saftied in the morning and someone broke into it and just vandalized the inside. It was destroyed. That night i bought my car alarm,
Im very sorry to hear about your story but ive come to a realization. I hope this isnt out of line since your in a much bigger city than i am but i figure if someone wants your car or whats inside it, parked in a lighted area or not, theyre going to have it. Car alarm or not either-- you hear an alarm go off so what- it happens all the time.
I hope you find your shit and I really hope you find the morons who took it.

i gave a kid the metal end of a maglite across the back of the head once...trying to break into our neighbors house. My dog was chasing him (tundra is a golden retriever) and growling and stuff..but she would never bite anybody.. finally i caught up to him and put him out cold. I felt bad cause he was probably about 14 years old but it sounded cool.. *thuck!*

sorry to hear what happened man. the same thing happened to my camaro, only it was at a dealership service lot. ever since then im super paranoid about locking my car and arming the alarm, parking it in a good area, lots of weird stupid thing. but especially if you have a nice car, dont flaunt it, dont act cocky, making enemies will result in your shit getting stolen. another point i think is really true.

Yeah, I don't have a car alarm and all my shit was in the open for just a few hours. The funny thing is that when I went to my GF's to grub during that 1 hour break I thought about putting all my shit in her apartment but I didn't. I feel like such a dumbass.
240Degrees. Dude, I will come down there today. I need a window cuz it has been raining. Thank you so much man. Send me a PM or email me your address or phone number. Thanks.

this sucks..
a few months ago my car was broken into at my school. I had a Saterday class that started at 8am and had a break at 9 and I go to my car and see the window rolled down... they stole my stereo, rear deck since it had the speakers on it, all my cds, my ashtray full of loose change, but they didnt steal my shit knob?? losers!!.
Its gay cuz i talked to the campus cop and he said I was the 8th car hit between this college and the university. If thats the case, howcome they didnt try any steackouts?? or do some patrolling. I mean I pay for a parking permit to park on campus, Id at least expect security with that permit.
Insurance sucks, they said the same thing to me, that possessions inside the car are not covered, but they would install the factory equipment in, but id have a $500 deductible.

Your insurence agency should cover stereo equipement...Hell, get a quote from nissan for a $$STOCK$$ radio and give it to the insurence company and see the look on their faces.
From what I remember from my friend's civic getting stolen in Houston(worse place to have a car) - Insurence companies will only give you money for things that *ADDS* value to your car. Things like clothes, watches, and other misc. items will not be covered
I think stereo equipment adds to the value of your car?

This utterly disgusts me. Even though this is common place, it angers me that lazy piece of craps that don't want to work hard for something have to take from those who earn.
On another note, you did leave things in plain sight which is an invitation for theft. Always make the car appear blank with nothing but the interior and invest in a detachable faced CD-player in the future. Believe me, it makes a difference but is not 100% fool-proof.

Yeah, I normally hide stuff but I couldn't fit everything in the back because my wheels were back there along with my tool set. I should have just unloaded everything at the GF's during my break.
On a good note, I went down to 240Degrees' house in San Diego today and he gave me a passenger side window. Thanks man. Hopefully I'll see you soon at an event in the near future. I'll buy you lunch or whatever you want.
On another good note, I talked to my mom today and she said our homeowners insurance might cover it so hopefully this will work out. I don't know how this will work considering my car wasn't at home but she says they'll cover it with a $250 deductible. Crossing my fingers because I did file a police report already. Instead of being down $1000 I might only be down $250 which isn't thaaaat bad, but still bad.
I'm just greatful I still have my car.

I don't think this was a "targeted" theft cus it was a 240SX. Flybert left valuable items in plain sight and someone was bound to break into it.
And judging from the fact that they couldn't remove the deck from the car which, arguably, is the easiest car to remove a deck from ( I can do it in like 3 minutes with a screwdriver and nothing else)... they were amateurs.
The smashed window is also the sign of an amateur. :P
Just take it as a learning experience dude... I know people who get their shit stolen all the time, and its always because of a momentary lapse of judgement (not arming alarm), or because they leave things in plain sight.
Get an alarm too.. they're cheap... like $99 at Circuit City :P
I will never down grade my INS...
My bro got his deck, amp and subs stolen last month... (Forgot to lock the car in his garage)
They ripped the deck out terin shit up (jack asses its an alpine... Quick release hello?) And they found the trunk lever and tore up his trunk...
The good thing is he has full coverage... They took about $900 worth of stuff and he paid the INS $100 and got it all coverd... He got $1300 worth of new subs, amp, and deck... (basterd got the deck I wanted) $700 for just it.

I've found that the blinking 'Viper' indeglo works wonders. I think any alarm is the best upgrade to get. you're putting how much money into your car and not protecting it?
I got an alam just for the keyless entry. But I see it if there's many cars in a lot and mines blinking then mine is first off the list of ones to try. My insurance went down to enough to pay for the alarm.

Thanks for the heads up. That one unfortunately isn't mine. I have been checking ebay every few days to see if mine shows up but it hasn't. Hopefully the person who stole it from me takes it to a pawn shop and the pawn shop sells it on ebay and that's when I'll get my crap back. I don't think it's going to happen but there is a chance.

Heads up to all the guys in the glendale/eaglerock/pasedena area!
My friend's 86 was broken into (little did they know it had a shot motor), and shady characters have been floating around my darling as well. Also, my roommates cressida was taken and ditched just about a month ago.
You still sure this isn't targeted theft?
Don't park on the street, if it's possible guys!
EDIT: An INTERNAL siren saved super corrolla in hawaii, so if you have a DEI alarm I'm sure you can wire one in for something like $30.00. The internal siren is actually physically painful to be near, and deafining when inside the cabin(just make sure you don't set it off while IN the car). I'll be putting one in asap seeing how it saved my other car.

Sorry for the loss man, I know it sucks because I got cleaned out ($2k worth) at my old work place before. Not to be a dick, but for those of you that thinks an alarm is going to deter theives you're wrong! My car had an alarm, and it only took those fucks 5 seconds to cut it. I saw a guy that was an alarm installer broke into his own car equiped with a top of the line Clifford, and from that day I never look at car alarm the same again. If they want your car enough, they will tow that shit. If you don't want your car to be fucked with then make it look low key, no valuable visible, just don't give them an incentive to break into your car. Alarm will only slow them down. Fuck theives.

Starter cut
Fuel cut
the only two DELAYS you can put into making your car less stealable to the average thief.
Then again, they can ALWAYS tow it.. and they often do.

I know an alarm wont prevent the thing from being stolen. I'm just trying to make my car more of a pain in the butt to steal, and hopefully if it takes an extra 5 minutes they'll choose to steal something that'll be easier.
If they cut your alarm, where did you put it? I need to take off my brake master cylinder to get to the wire for my siren. The brain is well hidden somewhere behind a lot of things as well.
The longer it takes the theif the better, and if the car is literally unapproachable(internal siren) it does help quite a bit. A starter kill should be a part of most basic alarm systems and should slow them down as well.
If they really want the car they'll take it, but not without a good fight or tow truck.
I just want to minimize the amount of thieves out there that will steal my car. If they can't get near it with the siren going and even if they do, they'll take a while finding and cutting my wires (run siren wires with stock looms hidden in stock wires), and they'll still have an autolock to get through, I don't think many average thieves would be capable to stealing my car in a reasonable amount of time. Still can't do anything about a tow truck though
:bash: .

you can put in a tilt sensor. It's ether a mercury switch or a Solid state device that when tiped more than 20 deg. it closes.
Towing a car with the alarm going off will catch some eyes.
you can jack any car out there. you just want to make yours less apealing than others.

HEY,Chris! This is Richard, the guy sold you the coilovers.Really sorry to hear about this. But unforutnately,my car got broken in about 2 days ago too.they only stole my audio head unit and all the copied chinese CDs(damn stupid theif).all my aftermarket parts are still here(such as boost gauge, boost controler, turbo timer) and my friend's parts such as TRD spring and Bushing kit for AE86's boxes got open, but nothing got stolen. So i think the theif only knows about audio stuff.Anyway, hope you can find the parts you lost!

Thanks Richard, sorry to hear about what happened. Good thing they didn't know about the car parts because gauges and boost controllers are expensive. Keep an eye out on ebay. They might sell your radio there but I doubt it. My stuff hasn't shown up on there and it just seems like the thief just broke in cuz he saw all the stuff in the back. Now it's time to save up for a new head unit and alarm, stuff I just never hoped to have to buy. I think I'm going to roll without a fully functional headunit for a while because I've been saving up for a 2-way and that's just a little more important than tunes for right now. Don't let it get you down and hopefully you have car insurance that will cover it.

You guys are lucky. The thieves that went into my car stole my boost/water gauges, as well as my muffler and other misc. non-performance stuff.
