Ok my friend and i both had 90 240sx's, and he tells me that it would be better to do an engine swap for better performance. I buy the 95 240sx engine, we get it in my 90 240sx and hook everything up and now it doesn't run. After the problems started he decided not to help me out and stop returning my calls. So now I am stuck, I even took it to a mechanic and he doesn't want to do it. I found out later that my friend sold his 240sx to buy a '03 WRX STI. That's my problem.

Now the question, I think the wiring job he did was shotty and that's why it isn't starting. And for some reason there isn't any gas being pumped into the engine. I tried spraying some starter fluid directly into the air intake, and it fired and tried to turn over but because there wasn't any gas being pumped into the engine it died. I didn't get the air intake tube and airfilter box with it, and I was wondering if that could be a reason why it doesn't start. If anybody lives in the SACRAMENTO area in CALIFORNIA and can help me with my problem please write to me at [email protected], I will gladly PAY you to get my 240sx running again, please help.

Is this Derek??

If it is, this is Tony! Remember me?

I'll do what I can to help you diagnose. I know the '95 240 inside and out, but I'm not too clear on the wiring for the '90s.

So, are you sure there is no fuel going into the engine? The best way to find out if your fuel pump is working is to stick your ear against the fuel pump cover and have someone turn the key to the on position. Not to start, but simply to on. If you hear a whirring sound, your fuel pump is going. If not, then at least we have a start.

The intake box and the filter don't really matter in the engine starting. The engine will start, then depending on how the MAFS feel that day, the idle may be unsteady, etc. If you don't have an air filter element of some sort to give it some backpressure, that is. But at any rate, the engine should turn over and start without an airbox element. Heck the car will start without a MAFS even..just in fail safe mode.

ALso you can pinch the fuel line right before it goes into the fuel filter and see if there is any pressure in the line. If not you either have a dead fuel pump, blown fuel pump fuse, etc. This is a really dumb question, but...you did swap in the 95 ECU right? Theres gotta be a relay that turns on the fuel pump when the ignition is turned on (to build fuel pressure), maybe that isnt working.

Hey Tony,

Man it's good to hear from you. After I started having problems with the swap Paul just dropped me. I'm so pissed. I know there isn't fuel going into the engine because the tube doesn't feel tense when I turn the key to the on postion. I also took the tubing off of the engine block and no gas was coming out. I think a fuse might have been blowin, but I don't know for sure since I can only find 2 fuse boxes under the hood, and there is suppost to be another one under the steering wheel that is suppost to pump the gas. I would really like to talk to over the phone. You can send me your number to my e-mail at [email protected], or I can send my number to you. I just really need some insite.

By the way what's up with your car? I saw that you wrote at the bottom, that you hate your car, what's up?

Hey M,

Yes I did swap out the ECU's and I'll try what you said I should try and do, I can use all the help I can get, and like I said in my first post, I will gladly pay anyone who can get my car running.

Thanks M

I'm writing you my number now, but try this first..

There is a fuse block by the left kicker panel on the driver's side. I believe it should be universal on all 240s..at least that's where it is on the '95. Pull it out (it should be really accessible), and reference the cover to find out the fuel pump fuse. That may be your problem right there..

Though there has to be some sort of reason for it shorting out, if the fuse has shorted out. I'm really afraid of shorts relating to the fuel pump :(
