Alright guys, I'm new to the forum and I have a few questions. First of all, my friend has a 240 that we're doing an engine swap on, and basically he's got me extremely interested in 240's now. I've always been a fan of drift racing, so I figured I could possibly get into a 240 of my own and give it a whirl. (not saying I just want a drift machine by any means though)

Anyways, I currently own an 04 Srt4 that only has 62k on it and I posted it on my local craigslist for a 240 trade. (with cash, unless I got offered an amazing one) I've gotten a few offers so far, but only one has really stuck out to me. Here's what he sent me:
It is actually a 1995 240sx SE
-a 97'-98' facelift
-S13 SR20DET Redtop swap
-4mm wider rear fenders
-300zx brakes (I know up front, not completely sure about in the back also) along with the master cylinder
-Greddy intercooler
-Greddy catch can
-HKS BOV
-Hardpiping for intercooler
-Limited Slip from an infiniti
-Battery relocated to the back
-Brand new paint job
-Springs (Koni?)
-5zigen fno1r-c wheels, (I believe 17's all around, 275' wide in rear and 235' in the front)
-I have an extra rear bumper, front bumper, welded diff, and a few other things off the top of my head

He said the odometer and speedo stopped working at 185k when they put the new sr in it, and he estimates that the car is probably up to like 195k and around 40k on the sr. He said there is absolutely NO rust on the car. (even on the frame) The only other problem is that the radio isn't working. He said he thinks theres a bad connection somewhere.
Anyway, what I really want to know is how much do you guys think the car is worth? Is it worth a trade for my Srt4? (the Srt4 bluebooks around 9-10k) I've just been offered 9k for my car, so I'm hoping if I can sell the Srt, I can just buy the 240 for a decent price. I apologize if this isn't in the right forum, like I said, I'm new. Thanks in advance.

Here are some pics of the car:

It's not worth 9k IMO

If he offers a grand or two maybe it will be worth it

I advise you sale the car then just buy a 240

I didn't think it would of been appropriate to post my post in that section. Just because I'm not trying to tell about myself and it said no pictures. I wanted to show what I was offered. I apologize.

Thanks for your input! Thats what I was hoping to see. What do you think its worth?

stock bodied s14's with sr's, decent wheels, coils and bolt ons fetch anywhere from 5000-6000

id say that cars worth at least 7500 cause it looks better than most cars on here.
looks like its been taken care of,maintained and has tasteful mods
that s14+1000 for your srt4 is a fair deal.
goodluck!

IMHO i think you should sale your car and build your own 240, 9k can go a long way. you never know whats wrong with their car. and if its on craigslist its always sketchy to me just saying. build your own youll love the out come

I'd say sell your SRT4 for 9k and then build your own car. Get an S13/14 rolling shell for $1k and then buy an SR swap for around $1500-2000 and swap it yourself. You will have a ton of money left over to mod to your liking. IE: Coilovers, tie rods, tension rods, RUCAs, ect.

Honestly if you are just getting into drifting(and if this is your first RWD car) you would probably be better off buying a cheap DOHC S13, its enough power to drift fine but not too much that you start developing bad habits that having power gives you. It also means you don't hate yourself when you crash that beautiful S14 you traded your $9000 car for. Because you will eventually crash. Then you can upgrade to someone with more power. Just my opinion and im sure some people will say starting off with an SR'd car is fine too.

Alright guys thanks a lot for all the input! I e-mailed him letting him know all about what you guys said would be a good price, so now I'll play the waiting game.

I got another offer. Here's the e-mail:

There is NO rust on the car. It was a southern car all its life until 2 years ago when I bought it and I stored it for the winter. Probably one of the cleanest s13 bodies you'll see. . I swapped the cluster and dash to a Heads up display set with digital speedo. The cluster's odometer does not read so i was unable to keep track of the milage after i installed. But to my best guess its between 215,000 and 218,000(it was done over the summer) Unknown on the rb, they say they come with less than 45,000 km so i would say it has less than 55,000km(although i cannot promise thats what it actually is) I do not have any interior pics at the moment i can try to get some tommorow, I'm away at school and the car is not with me but i'll try to make a trip back. But the dash does have some cracks right above the cluster. There are no name black and blue racing seats with harnesses and a genuine BRIDE steering wheel. I have two sets of wheels for the car. One set is 15" xxr 002 and the other are 18" motegi wheels. I have 2 hoods for the car, one is a one of a kind custom carbon fiber and the other is the oem blue matched hood. It has 50mm wide fenders, arp extended wheel studs with muteki neo-chrome lug nuts and spacers. Tell me some about the srt and please send pics.

What do you think about this one? I asked him if he'd be adding any cash on top and he said no. I asked what he would want for it if he was selling it to me and he said 8500...steep?

I would like to build my own, but I don't have that much time and I'll need a daily. I work two jobs, go to college, and I'm in the process of moving out. (needless to say, I don't have a whole lot of money either)

I really like the way that s14 looks, so I'm going to check it out this weekend.

Get the s14 but get him to come down to 7500 or so.. but to be completely honest unless you can do all your own work..you reallly picked the wrong car to get into haha I've owned my s14 for 2yrs and including the price of the car I'm already close to 23g into it. But up here that 240 would go for an easy 10g, theyre selling stock s14's with some rust for 5-6g with over 200000km. GL and enjoy the journey!

I found your problem.

Don't rely on a swapped/heavily modded 240 as your sole purpose of transportation. Especially working two jobs, and going to school. It's not quite the same as a newer car. At least have a beater for the winters and when you're working on the 240.

Reason: past experience

Also, cars that have been built by someone else can be way more of a headache than you might think. I would wait until your situation stabilizes to do this, then build your own.

Good luck

You got your input. This thread is over.

Zilvia is not here to tell you what every 240 is worth, or if you should buy it. :lockd:
