Here's a letter I'm writing to them and the FBB. It might not do anything but it'll help me vent:

To Whom it May Concern at JAS,
I was very disappointed with the service and assistance at Japanese Automotive Specialists. I first brought my car, a 1992 240sx, into JAS for a headlight adjustment and was charged $39 for a miserable job: the headlights were “guess” adjusted and I had to readjust them(vertically) when I got home so that I wouldn’t blind the cars in front of me. Also, the plastic frame around the headlamp wasn’t put in all the way and the screws just hung in there, leading to a missing screw as soon as I realized this was so. I had to put the frame back in and buy a screw from home depot to replace the missing one. This was because when I called JAS, I was for one told that the there were no screws taken off when my headlights were adjusted, which seemed funny to me since I watched the guy adjust the headlights with the plastic frame off. The person on the phone then said that the screw was missing to begin with, which seemed hilarious in my view since I just spent the past week installing H4 conversion headlights on my car and I know every square inch about them. That was the first miserable experience in which I evened tip the headlight adjuster $5, because I thought he did a great job—a major mistake.
The second “adventure” I had with JAS was for a major repair on my car. The reason I returned in the first place was to give JAS a second chance, maybe the day of the headlight adjustment just wasn’t “their day.” This time I was treated as if I didn’t know anything about cars and it seemed that the person on the phone thought that by naming off lots of parts he could push me into spending more money. It was also extremely frustrating that when I brought in my car with a list of things needing fixing, the receptionist, Matthew, took the paper and told me he would use that as a guideline. I tried explaining some of the info and asked for a full inspection, mechanically as well as externally. I was told that he would definitely look over everything and that not to worry about it; it seemed he wanted me out of there. I know how this can be sometimes, so I left trusting Matthew with his word. I received a call the next day with the details of an inspection that was only a “look-over.” I asked why it wasn’t mechanical as well and he said he didn’t tell me it was going to be; very frustrating. Most of the stuff on the list he took from me wasn’t even mentioned over the phone or on the estimate, such as a rear-view mirror and trunk-latch problem. I also requested, even before I brought it in for repair, over the phone that I receive an estimate on bushing and steering tie rack boot installs. When I asked Matthew this after he listed the inspection, he told me he would call me back with estimates; I was called back about two hours later with information I requested a few days ahead. The estimates seemed outrageous compared to other shops, so the work was not attempted. When I said I would go ahead and pay for the oil fix, oil bolt fix, and oil change (using my 5w30 Mobil 1 synthetic oil and FRAM filter that I told him was in the car when I dropped it off) he told me it could be done by the next day. I had to call Matthew the next day around 3pm to figure out what the status of my car was. The answer was that it MIGHT be done tonight and if not, Matthew would call me. Well two and a half hours past and I still had no result. I called Matthew and he said that he already talked to my mom and that it would be done by tomorrow. I asked my mom when she got home why she called JAS, and she said she wanted to figure out if the service would be done that night or not, so she could plan her shopping schedule. She also informed me that Matthew said that he clearly told me earlier that it was definitely not going to be done that night; maybe a misunderstanding? The next day, after frequent calls, another service was added and the whole service was completed by 11:50am. I told him that I would be there in 10min, since I only had a lunch period to pick it up (45min) and I needed it to get to work that afternoon. I arrived at JAS and he told me that the mechanic was test-driving my car, not the kind of response I want to hear when I’m in a rush to get back to my classes, especially since I specified I would be there in 15min. When the mechanic returned I checked over the estimate sheet and it said 10w30 oil used, with an oil filter--which added $16. I asked why it cost so much since for one, I supplied them with 5w30 synthetic oil, and a filter. He said he forgot and that this oil would be fine. I asked if it was synthetic and he said no. Well this posed a problem since my car previously had synthetic oil and it’s not very smart to go back to regular once using synthetic. I was even more furious since I specifically stated that I wanted to use the 5w30 oil in my car and the FRAM filter; neither was used. He somewhat apologized for the inconvenience and I had to wait another 15min to have my oil changed back to synthetic. They clearly asked me if I wanted to use the FRAM filter with the new oil and I said yes. After I was already 10min late to class because of this terrible delay I was somewhat satisfied. That is, until I got home. The coolant level was almost at zero because they replaced the water pump and a coolant line and forgot to replace the coolant. I also noticed that the oil filter was black, and that the FRAM filter is orange, meaning they deliberately did exactly opposite of what I said. I still have yet to know where the filter is, and if they used my 5w30 oil, or if JAS pretended to fill my car with the synthetic and kept it for themselves, giving me the non-synthetic oil. This is beyond aggravating and has lead to my hatred towards this automotive “repair” shop. I just wanted to let JAS know of my disappointment at their overall performance, and that I will, without doubt, warn anyone against going to that shop.

A Furious Customer,

???????????????????

One of the exact reasons why I NEVER let anyone work on my car. Just a quick question for you though... why did you want 5w30 in the 240? this is a 240 we're talking about right? 10w30 is recommended for it. Just wondering.

Congrats! You have won the award for longest post ever read by yours truly!

:D

Sorry to hear about all that crap. Is that the shop off Arapahoe and Jordan?

Next time just bring a 6 pack over and we can fix the car! Well, maybe a 30 pack of Keystone since the car seems to have lots o problems!

I hope they get what they deserve! Report them to the BBB.
