Ok what is everyones favorite Japanese food/candy? I really like Gyoza...the pot stickers....mmmmmmmm and POKY. Well, I am trying to get an idea of the foods I really need to try when I move to Japan and wich ones arent so tastefull. I know this is probably a repost....but hey, times change and there might be new stuff out there, so **NAHHHHH** :boink:

I've recently became hooked on sushi. I mix the low-sodium Kikkoman (with the green label) with a bit of wasabi.....then dip it in.....and its great. Then I chase it down with some pickled ginger (pink preferably). I LOVE the tempura sushis (deep friend stuff inside the rice).

I was in Fukui once and there was this thing called "Sauce katsu don". It's a katsu don..but it's not like anything I've ever had.

It gets my vote :)

Some ramen are also mind-bogglingly good. Hachioji in Tokyo had this one ramen place right outside the station. I wish I remember the name..but you have to go downstairs. It's some Hakata ramen chain store but oh man. Oh man oh man..

I do like Japanese food, sushi, shabu shabu, soba & all of there noodle dishes, etc. Not a Tempura guy though, but that is due to some food poisoning I had a while back.

Some of it is a little bland to me sometimes because I am used to Southeastern Cuisine (Vietnamese, Thai, etc) which has a lot of flavors and spices. You have to learn to appreciate the natural flavors and simplicity in foods when eating some Japanese things. Also kind pricey for what you get. :p

I'm afraid all I have ever had is americanized Japanese food. You know like Taco Bell is not "real" mexican, kind of thing. Man I don't even know If I get Americanized chinese or japanese. I know that I am ignorant in this department but I really have no avenue for exsposure to the japanese culture. I get my sushi(california roll, Haha ha) from the super market. I love Fried dumplings and wontons, and I have inhaled ramen daily for many years but I don't even know what specific culture is responsible for it. This thread is really exsposing my ignorance in these areas. Could someone help me out? What are the most common dishes in Japan? Maybe I should start another thread?

shiro miso, any tofu, anything wrapped/sprinkled/stuffed with nori, salad (the kind w/ginger and peanut butter dressing), lychee gummie candy. too much to list. any food that's asian, not cause it's JDM/KDM/CDM tYt3 yO. but because it's hearty food that fills you up w/out all the fat and artificial ingredients like american food.
