Hate to bump up a 09 thread so I will start a new one.
(if mods want to lock or move, I can totally relate & apologies in advance).

Have been looking for a '12 Mustang Boss in the past few weeks or so in Socal.
While they're not super difficult to find (well maybe the white ones are),
the mark-ups are pretty outrageous, at least with the dealers in my area.

Figure a 43k Boss w/ the recaro-torsion pkg is marked up well over 20k.
The Lagunas, 48k are marked up to 90k.

So far I may have found something close to msrp out of state,
although it's not my fav color combo, being the Kona Blue & White ( maybe a bit too retro )
It's a fun challenge & it'll be interesting to see if it works out.
Hope my credit score is sufficient (just paid off my POS mitsu lancer & plan to keep it).

If this doesn't get locked, I'll post updates and see if anything happens.

There should be a '13 allotment, and that might be cheaper.

BTW if anyone has any info with regards to buying a new car out of state, that would be appreciated.
I have never done this before & hope it's not a complication bringing back a new car to CA.

On the other hand, Ford is offering some attractive financing and incentives to finance the 5.0.
(think 0% apr for 60 months, plus $1k off)
That's very tempting as well, but I say go big or go home.
The 5.0 is awesome as well no doubt.

i would rather buy that 5.0! 0% interest thats a deal. Put the money you would be paying on the BOSS into the 5.0.

Thanks ca18_luv, pm sent.

drfitn silvia,

I might end up doing just that, but if I can do a boss at sticker price I feel it's probably worth the premium.
In the end, knowing how I am, I'll prob spend more on the base 5.0 with mods.
10-12k premium for a well sorted out suspension & factory tune seems pretty reasonable to me.
Chances are I'll prob be perfectly content with it being close to stock.

Psychologically I will prob regret going with a 5.0 knowing I never did the boss.
That's totally my problem of course, but I can't help it knowing myself.

So normal 302's are marked up to $63k? Why, at that price, aren't people just buying GT500s?

I think back in 07 when the Shelby's came out for the model yr,
there were also crazy mark-ups, although it's prob not so bad right now.

You're probably right though.
A Shelby might be cheaper (MSRP from 49-low 60's).
At least there's no bending over involved.
I just don't feel comfy spending 50k on a car, 43 is already pushing it of me.
insurance can't be cheap.

Ridiculous markup. Typical markup right now seems like a couple G's?

Thanks for the links, the second in particular looks promising.
Just not too comfy to make a choice in less than 24 hrs.

If price was equal I'd prob take a Shelby over Boss.
I tried looking up some info on the net and surprisingly the '11 & up Shelbies w/ the SVT pkg doesn't really slouch on the Boss in terms of handling & breaking, and if anything prob performs better.

the thing to look for is the '11 and up model year.
The '11 are a lot more improved in most ways.
SVT pkg are a must (mostly a suspension upgrade).
Kinda on the fence with the Recaros, it's nice but not sure if it's $1700 nice.
It's just that most Shelbies w/ the SVT pkg (which is a must have imo), are already optioned out with other nonsense like a $2,300 nav.
They typically costs well around 57k, probably car payments being approx double that of the 5.0's.

I'll try to extend my search for sure.

Well I'm not planning to finance more than the 43k the Boss is asking for, I'm not comfortable with that even if I could afford it.
It's a price I'm happy to pay and with something I doubt I'll feel the need mod much.

If I wanted something to play around with the base 5.0 w/ the brembo pkg would be the best deal.
It's a much better modding platform to begin with vs. the prior model imo.
Besides, I'm looking to keep the car as close to stock as possible.

Couple things to watch for...

Some 2011 GT's had clutch/tranny issues. Since you seem to be looking for a 2012 that shouldn't be an issue.
Ford has released a TSB concerning tuning. Some say its the intake mani and switching over to the Boss mani will cure it, Ford obviously thinks tuners are going too lean.
Boss302's can be had for sticker price, you just have to find them. Try to locate an X Plan pin. If you can find a dealer willing to take it(as they are not obligated), you'll pay under sticker. Good luck with that though.

You could always pick up an 05-09 3v and drop some cash into it. The 5.0 may have a pretty good head start, but nothing a supercharger and coilover system can't cure.

07-09 GT500 isn't a bad way to go, either. Besides, they look better than the 10's+. The 2011's and up do have that aluminum block though...
