What's going on guys, I've been having a on going issue with a rich condition my coupe (stock besides exhaust, and testpipe) from what I can tell. The issue is with small idle misfire, shitty gas mileage, small puff of white smoke from the exhaust (sometimes not all the time), and strong smell of gas from the exhaust.

I'm just looking for pointers where I should start. I've been reading on Zilvia, and people are saying check the coolant temp sensor, maf, vac leaks and possibly o2 sensor. I checked for vac leaks the other day with carb cleaner and I wasn't able to find any. I checked my plugs and they look black as hell. I'll post up a pic shortly Now the idle misfire only gets worse as the car warms up, when the engine is cold it idles fine.

Here's what it sounds like when the engine misses and is warmed up.

Any input would be appreciated, last thing I wanna do is go out and start buying random parts and hoping that will fix it.

I am having the exact same problem as you i was looking up on it and i was going to try cleaning the IACV soon and see if that helps

If there is no DTC or check engine light, then I would guess Engine Coolant Temp sensor. If there is a DTC, then I would lean more on the O2 sensor.

Thanks, I appreciate the advice. I'll check the codes this weekend. I've never done it on a OBD1 car so this will be interesting. lol.

shitty milage and misfire, Check Distributor timing.
sometimes puff of white smoke -- It could possibly be blue. Happened to me when I blipped the gas on my KA. was the PCV valve.

Here's my list when I was chasing the running rich problem.

1. Coolant temp sensor
2. o2 Sensor
3. Distributor timing
4. Emissions crap
5. PCV Valve
6. Catalytic converter
7. Ignition system (plugs, wires, cap/rotor, etc)
8. Injectors (check for leaks/flow test them)
9. FPR

run seafoam thru the intake side and see how much blue smoke comes out. If a lot then change your PCV valve.

Thanks for the advice, I have no clue how to check the timing, but I haven't changed it at all. The smoke is a blueish color after checking it today. I also cleaned the MAF (no change), and checked the ECU for codes but only gave me a 55.

I did seafoam it a while ago and there was tons of smoke blowing out lol.

I did find something tonight. I wiggled the coolant temp sensor wiring that reports to the ECU that my idle fluctuated and misfire got worse. Anyone deal with this issue before? I'm still not pulling any codes. So I think I found part of the issue.

I'm almost certain to say that it's coolant temp sensor. If the O2 sensor was reading at 0 volts then it's possible that your ECU thinks you're running lean so it adds fuel.

if it fluctuated then obviously that should ring a bell in your head. if all else fails, rip that sensor out, check the voltage replace with new sensor, and then go from there.
