View Full Version : S13 Wiring nightmare (stressed out)

Okay, so I bought an s13. Originally a SOHC model being that it is a 1990 of course. The guy I bought it from said he swapped in an S14 DOHC KA, along with the ignition on the steering wheel and the gauge cluster. The problem was, he said someone who didn't like him cut some of the wiring harness around where it connects to the coil. I naively believed his story and bought it. Well, I was going to try and get the DOHC KA running but the more I looked at it, the more I questioned his story.

I believe that he intended to swap those things in but failed and got rid of it before it was finished. Now I really don't know what works and what is wired properly or how it is wired for that matter. He won't return any of my calls or messages to boot, so its making it hard to confirm what's been done to the car and what needs to be done.

I have decided to get an RB20 to swap out with the KA because I don't want to deal with tracing down all the KA's problems and spending money to fix something that really isn't worth fixing.

So I have originally a SOHC car, supposedly wired up to a DOHC S14 engine, gauge cluster, and key ignition, and I want to put an RB20 in it... It just sounds like a wiring nightmare and it stresses me out thinking about it. Could anyone point me in the right direction and give me a good place to start sorting this out? Thanks in advance.

Edit: Or let me know what I can get rid of and what I need to keep for the RB20 swap. That might help simplify some things. (I.E. if the s14 gauge cluster won't work with the RB anyway I can go ahead and trash it).

You should just switch over to an S13 dohc harness, ecu and distributor. I dont think that would be any worse than that rats nest youve got going now and would actually be a lot simpler to pull off. Grab an S13 dohc distributor and coil/module too then fire it up!
