I am in the process of rebuilding my SR20DET and my mechanic wants me to replace my cam gears, which would make it so no internals are reused from my old SR20DET that has developed a slight rod knock.

I am not going to be spending hundreds of dollars on comparitive dyno tuning to dial in custom cam gears, but haven't found any sources online or otherwise that sell OEM cam gears. What should I do?

I have to order by the end of tomorrow, new S13 oil pump and complete timing set including guides, tensioner, chain, etc.

build specs:
Wiseco 9:1 pistons, 86.5mm
Eagle rods
ARP head studs
Apexi 1.1 head gasket
BC264 12.0mm cams
Greddy valve springs, BC ti retainers
GT2871R .64
Megan tubular exhaust manifold
Greddy intake suction kit
Greddy down pipe
Greddy hot pipe
Greddy FMIC
Greddy BOV
Greddy oil pan
Z32 MAF
stock intake manifold
SARD top feed fuel rail
800c STI high impedence injectors
Aeromotive FPR and push lock lines
Enthalpy tune

For the mods you list there, you dont need cam gears.
You can safely reuse your old oem gears.

In case its a VVT head, you can reuse the intake sproket (cam gear), but mind that if it has free play in it, it will rattle - though it will not affect performance.

I've never seen cam gears worn to where you can't use them. Just use the ones you have.

I should have clarified, this is an S13 blacktop non-VVT head.

I pretty much knew I didn't need aftermarket cam gears, but wanted to confirm. Does anyone have a source for buying new OEM ones? Are they cheaper than aftermarket ones?

if you are really that skeptical about them buy JWT Cam Gears, they are the best from my personal experience.
