Just watched coverage of the Detroit auto show, and I gotta say, I'm pissed.  Everything is about drive-by-wire, elimination mechanical objects controlling the car.  Everything that makes a car a car is going away.  It's not the art of driving anymore.  It's the lazy ass "I want to go somewhere but I don't want to exert any effort" American ideal that is being bred into American culture.

#### it, and the cars and trucks are ugy!  The only worthwhile segment of the show was the development of hydrogen fuel cells.  I swear these engineers must be smoking crack while they keep designing the same basic automobile with no thoughts of wind resistance to underneath the car.  Either that, or they go the complete opposite and engineer something that is so far left it could never have a practical value.

And the coverage of the Mazda RX8 only included that it was a four seater that could actually fit four people.  NOT that is has a kick-ass new rotary engine design that's hella powerful!

And then there's the artistic bullshit of cars that have completely smooth, upright sides, with weird looking light pods, in some effort to "blend the car with the subtle forces of nature and create a more harmonious blend of driving technology.....etc.....more advertising BS........."

Do these heads of companies and engineers live in the real world?  Have they just forgotten their roots?  What happened to building an object requiring skill to control it?  Just had to vent.
