So I've tried searching this but couldn't find anything that helped. I'm having a really strange problem with my car. Blacktop S13 SR in a 92 s13. It started 2 days ago, where I went to turn my car on and it just cranked over. I noticed the fuel pump didn't come on. So after turning the key back off and back on it started right up. Then today it randomly died on me when driving. Again fuel pump wasn't on, tried turning the key on/off multiple times but it never turned on the pump. So I pulled the fuze, it checked out, pulled the relay, and put it back in along with the fuze. Pump turned on and it fired right up. Drove it home, turned the car off, came back out to turn it on and again wont start. So I replaced the relay, replaced the fuze, still wont turn on the pump. Thinking could be pump/wiring I quick jumped a wire direct to the pump turning it on, and still the car wont start...I checked all the wiring for the pump, it's all good I can give it direct power at the plug under the hood and it turns it on. Even when doing that tho, the car wont start so I'm thinking it's something else. I'm not sure where to start looking tho. Has anyone else had a similar problem or have any ideas on what I should check? I'm lost...

Take off the maf and start. If turn on then its your maf

I checked a few more things before calling it a day. Checked for volts at the coils, they are getting 12v, main relay is clicking when I turn the key. Still fuel pump wont turn on. This is starting to drive me crazy, I've looked over every single wire on this thing and everything looks great.

Why would I unplug my MAF? What would that have to do with anything?

It could be the fuel pump going out, make sure you have power to the fuel pump when the key is on position, than you can take out the fuel pump and jump it to the battery to see if it turns on, check that than let us now.

I already did that, and explained it in the first post. When I jumper a direct power wire to the pump it turns on. I can also take the EGI PUMP relay out and jumper points 2 and 5 and it'll turn the pump on. However the car doesn't start even when doing either one of those things.

I'm going to check the ECU for power next.

If the car starts without the maf it could be the maf wasn't sending any signal. I worked on my brother's s14 sr. Had a similar problem thinking that it was the fuel pump. I replaced the fuel pump and still with the same problem. Also what fixed the problem was that the maf socket had some crimped marks. Turned out that the wiring was bad due to vibrations around the intake. One I unplugged the maf it ran. But with no signal it runs crappy. So I ordered a used maf and towed the car to the shop to have the wiring done. Also get a maf cleaner. It might help.

I'm sorry, but either you didn't read anything I just said, what I said doesn't make any sense to you, or you don't even know what you're talking about.

Think about this for 2 seconds. How in the world would unplugging my MAF sensor help make my fuel pump turn on?

Sorry if I'm coming off as a dick, I'm just a little annoyed right now, and your response is of no help whatsoever.

I thought it might have been my wiring too, but it's not the wiring. I've check all of the fuel pump wiring throughout the car. It all checks out perfect. Did continuity tests for a good hour trying to find a short in it but there isn't one. All the connections look great. Also even giving direct power to the pump to make it turn on the car still doesn't start.

I hate to say this because it makes me sound like a complete noob, but...I'm thinking it might be my ECU. I'm going to check spark in the morning if it's not getting spark that'll help narrow it down. Also checking the ECU for power should help as well.

I figured out the problem this morning. There were a few bad connections inside the car before the ecu that I didn't see last night. She purs like a champ.

So what I thought was the problem turned out not to be. After driving it for a while it went right back to doing the same thing. Decided to open up the ECM which I should have done in the first place, and found this.

Called up a close friend, who just so happened to have one laying around in his garage and gave it a try. Hopefully this is the last I hear of this problem. I'm praying that this is the end of it.
