So tired of reading dozens of threads through Google and hearing mixed opinions on this.

I'm 99% sure I can swap the j30 guts into the s13 case and avoid the whole j30 fitment problems. But do I have to use the j30 output shafts and j30 axles or can I just swap the guts and use my s13 axles? Anything else I need to know/do or will happen down the road?

And I've searched my ass off and read all damn day broskies. Trying to get a final answer before I yank this bitch out.

And yes I've read the bottom of 240SX LSD Swap (http://importnut.net/lsdswap.htm) but it doesn't mention anything about using or not using the j30 output shafts and axles

One of these days I'm going to go back and take each thing I've installed off just so I can make the mother of all install how to's for each one that any moron like me can understand and also include every little small/stupid question that goes along with each. I will redeem myself! LOL

srt-4 = 5 speed genius.

And I made plenty of how to's for srt forums.

Thanks, I don't think I'll be doing that shit then. Although I was kind of hoping someone who has tried it or done it could post.

If you can find a 6-bolt J30 VLSD from a '95-'97 then you can use your stock S13 axles. However, if you want to swap out the guts you will have to switch out the ring gear, and then you will have to grind down the longer output shaft of the J30 so that it will go into the pumpkin all the way.

If you replace the pinion gear of the S13 with the J30 then you will not have to swap ring gears or grind down one of the output shafts.

ps. Dodge blows.

I took the J30 diff, and put the S13 diff back plate on the back and it mounted perfectly without needing a new driveshaft, of course I had a 1 piece aluminum from Shaftmasters already for my RB swap, so that could be another alternative for you.

Yeah I've already swapped the back of em, it's the axle combo that's the problem. Hit the scrapyard today and all the j30's were 6bolts! Didn't see a single 5 man. Going to try again tomorrow and if I can't find anything I'll try the internals swap once before saying fuck it all and grab a 6bolt j30 diff.

What a nightmare this shit is. I just bought some 5bolt j30 axles from someone and the part that goes into the hub is way different than the stock s13 axles and it won't go in far enough to put the pin back in after the axle nut is on.

The 5bolt j30 axles I bought with the diff fit fine and matched the stock s13 6bolt axles.. wtf am I working with?

I wish I could but as soon as I went to test drive em theleft one blew out the bearings and started spinning.. I wishI could use them because theyre identical to the stock axles except 5bolt to fit the j30, what axles are they really because they can be j30?

The axles I just bought are definitely 5bolt j30's but they arent going into the hub enough..
