Is this harness for a '97-'98 sr20det? here is the pic of the plug

You can't tell by the ECU plug. Your best bet would be to download the FSM off this site, and compare the fuel injector and spark plug wires. They are different between the Zenki and Kouki S14 SRs. The FSM on this site is for a Zenki S14 SR.

Can you tell that it is an s14 sr20det harness rather than a redtop? That is what im most concerned about.

I don't know how to tell by the ECU plug but you can tell by the Variable Valve timing plug. Find the CAS plug, then follow it back towards the ECU. If by the next 3 or 4 plugs, you encounter this strange little red thing plug that's not like any other plugs (read, doesn't click in, instead, uses a clip to attach), then you have an S14..

Yup found that last night...would all the s14 harnesses be the same or would they differ from zenki to kouki?

S14 Zenki and Kouki SR harnesses are very similar, but the wires going into the ECU are placed differently.

I found out the harness is a zenki harness from this guy in japan who checked the part number with the dealer. My ecu that is being redone by JWT right now is a zenki too (red "WC" sticker on it). He is checking right now on my engine numbers to see if it is a zenki too. I was sold the motor as a kouki motor but id rather they all be zenki

You can just tell by the timing cover...if it has cooling fins on it then it is a kouki. Zenkis don't have that.

hmm. you are talking about the cover that contains the oil pump right? So if it is completely smooth it is a zenki? Mine is not smooth but they don't seem to be "cooling fins".
