Hi all. I'm looking at getting a 240sx at the moment. As of now I have a decent amount of money saved up, and i could possibly get the car below in a straight up trade. Now my question, beyond the simple "is this a decent deal" is...

1992 NISSAN 240sx HATCH (http://seattle.craigslist.org/skc/cto/2614637357.html)

Is the rear quarter panel damage repairable? I mean, I know it's replaceable, but could a good autobody shop buff it out?

One of the few reasons I really like this car is that there is no rust, no structural damage as far as I could tell, and it's been owned by an older lady the last couple of years. Plus, I'm coming from a huge SUV, and it's nice to come back to a car.

thanks for your help!

It'd be a hell of a lot of work. At that point, you'd be better off re-welding another quarter panel on. Or you could just get fiberglass overfenders.

looks like overfenders would be the easiest way to clear that mess up

Anything can be fixed, it's how much your willing to cough up to fix it. You could always do over fenders for a cheap, and easy fix.

Thanks so much for the help so far... I know that I could google this, etc, but I'd like the opinion from you guys as well. Are Overfenders... Noticable? I tend to be slightly OCD about things (that I notice) so would I notice overfenders? I'll google after this, but I'd like some personal experiences with them as well if it's possible. thanks for the quick response btw!

EDIT
Ok, I went ahead and googled them. Looks pretty dang perfect for what I want. Do you guys have any suggestions on decent places to pick them up?

The better question would be why is he asking $2700 for THAT. Also, could damage such as that cause the uni-body to be out of spec?

It's fixable, without a doubt.
What you should do is get a quote from a body shop. Generally if something is bad enough, they'll replace the panel rather than spend hours fixing it. This way it works out for the both of you.
If the uni-body isn't bent and there's not a lot of tweaked metal behind it, personally, I'd just fix it.

Also, an over-quarter isn't going to fix shit, it's going to hide it. It'd be nice if people stop considering them a 'fix'.

It is repairable. Do you want it pulled or replaced? From the looks of it you would be better off to replaced it. If the dent was closer to the door id say pull it.

Ask the guy to ride with to a body shop and get a quote for hammering/pulling it out and replacing it

you might be able to kick it out alot from the trunk area but obviously it would need body work to make it look new

cheaper to replace that panel rather than fix it.

+1. But then again... anything is possible if money isn't a factor. :)

Definitely fixable if you're willing to put in the work or pay someone to do it. AS long as the unibody isn't tweaked.

Fixable? Yes.
Worth fixing it? Depends.
Worth paying 2700 for? Not unless were talking Peso's.

$2700 for that s13 is robbery. Before you go and get an estimate. Look under the car at the subframe and lower control arms. If the subframe looks like its been replaced then walk away because you can obviously see that what ever she hit, or hit her, hit the back wheel. And if it was bad enough to need the subframe or control arms replaced. Then i guarantee its got frame damage and you need to walk away. If i were you, id offer $1200 for it if its low milage.

No shit box 20 year old stock s13 is worth $2700.

*open the boot
*push the damage out as much as you can with a bat or similar
*fit overs
*sit down and think about why you spent £1800 on it

Fuck paying $2700 for that shit...I'd offer him $1k. Will cost atleast $1500 to fix that professionally (atleast thats what I'd tell him).

did nobody pay attention? he said he was going to do a straight across trade. he isnt spending any money buying it. It doesnt matter what the person is asking, cause he isnt gonna pay for it.

front end is smashed under that bra too.

the passenger fender has a kink, and the driver fender is bowed out. he rear ended someone.
