I was wondering if anyone on the board knows what is up w/jspec.com. I placed and and paid an order for an item that was supposed to take 2-3 weeks to receive and its now been over 6 weeks. I paid extra to have the item sent ems and its still not here. I've been emailing Sam and I left a message on his shop voicemail today. I still haven't gotten a reply. I'm just wondering what is going on. Here is the timeline of how everything has gone.

10/20/03- I paypal Sam money for the item. I also include an extra $20.00 to expedite shipping. He tells me it'll be 2-3 weeks via EMS vs. about 2 months via boat. So I opt to go air so I can get the items quickly.

10/22/03- I email Sam to make sure he received payment. He emails me back letting me know that he received payment but that he is waiting for a few more orders before placing the ems order. I email him back telling him that is fine.

11/3/02- I send an email checking to see if he's placed the order yet. No reply from Sam.

11/10/03- I send another email to Sam to check on the status of my order.

11/11/03- Sam replies back that he still hasn't placed the order because he's waiting for payment from another customer still. He says that I can cancel my order if I like since he hasn't placed the order. I tell him that I don't want to cancel the order but I would like an estimate of when I will be receiving the item. Since it had been 3 weeks since I placed the order and that he initially promised a 2-3 wait if paying via ems. I get no reply from Sam after this email.

11/24/03 - Send another email inquiring about the status of order. No reply from Sam.

11/28/03 - Send out another email regarding the status of the order. Again, no reply from Sam.

I left a message on his shop voicemail today.

If anyone can help I'd really appreciate it. I know he's probably been busy w/the holidays and all the drift events, nissanfest etc. I don't think that I'm out of line by requesting a status on my order.

If you know he's busy due to the holidays and all the recent NISSAN events, why wonder what the status of your order is and post it online? Sam is a trustworthy vendor who is well known in the community, he isnt going to run away with your money.

Welcome to life as a small business, we're either swamped or business is completely dead. You have to remember, this is not Fry's Electronics.. you are buying rare stuff that is very difficult to attain. Therefor, you simply cannot treat this like a typical business and say "its been 6 weeks" -- just be patient, everything will be okay.

small business or not, business is business. there is no excuse for not responding to a concerned customer.

If you're worried about him taking your money, dont worry about it.

if you just want a status on your order, you have every right to be concerned but you didn't have to post it here...cause you already new why he hasn't responded.

I understand that, but if he's paying for something, it shouldn't matter what kind of business it is, he should still get the customer service. Right?

Yes, I realize that he may be busy w/the holidays and other events. That is precisely why I posted this here. I figure there are plenty of people that frequent this board that may have contact w/him via other means. I'm not worried about him running away w/my money, I'd just like an update w/an eta on the parts. Especially since I paid extra to have them w/in 2-3 weeks as he promised.

As far as rarity goes, the item that I had him order is a regular stocked item from Nissan of Japan. Its not something that has to be sourced from a junkyard. In regards to patience, I think waiting 6 weeks for something that is promised w/in 2-3 weeks is pretty patient. If its going to take longer I don't mind as long as I'm updated on the situation. If you notice, I haven't received a reply email from him since 11/11/03, that is plenty of time to reply to an email.

Sam is a VERY busy person. He told me the other day that he nearly went hoarse answering questions on Saturday at the Festival.
It's entirely possible that he doesn't know the status of your order.
I know that the last time I ordered something via EMS, (I chose airmail) I was told it'd take 3 days to arrive. Instead it took a week and a half. Seems it just got held up in customs for awhile.
Another time i ordered something and had it shipped EMS air, it got here in 3 days.

Just be patient. Your item will arrive. You'll be happy with it.

Sam is a good seller. He's honest, no BS.

This is my opinion based upon my personal knowledge of his dealings. The only things I've ever gotten from Sam are a spin turn knob and alot of his stickers.

I've been waiting over 4 weeks for a 2 pairs of G35 sedan sidemarkers from the DEALER. They are not clear, they are not LED, they are just STOCK sidemarkers.

Whats even better, is I got them the other day and they delivered 3 right sidemarkers, 1 left, and 4 bulb holders which are the wrong ones and dont fit. Oh fun, drama for me! :)

If its an OEM Japanese part, then its considered RARE in my book.. especially since you cant just waltz over to your local stealership and pick it up. If you REALLY need it, just keep e-mailing and calling.. the squeeky wheel DOES get the grease.

As for Sam, I saw him at the NISSAN event this weekend and he looked busy as hell, I barely had a chance to talk to the guy. I am not taking sides, just speaking from the business perspective. I try to be non-biased, because I too am a consumer.. but I like I said, I see things from both sides.

In the future, just don't buy from him. Small Business or not, there are certain aspects of running a business to be upheld. The customer, who pays for the business to be run, is and should be #1. I don't care what their personal problems or anything else like that. A business is a business whether small or large. If aspirations for becoming a big business are in anyone's best wishes, then kissing ass and doing everything possible to make that customer (again the hand that feeds you) your number one priority is and should be followed through. This is how you gain respect, build contacts and relationships, increase profits, and flourish in this competitive world.

On a side note, if you read a lot of the descriptions on his site, you will notice a ton of crass, sarcasm, and non-caring attitude.

Yeah, things happen when you have a small business as I learned 5 years ago with my computer shop business that I had. The main reason I left it was due to stress. I took care of customers like they were family, seriously. They referred me to their friends and handed my business cards out at local churches, High schools, outdoor events and such. I would even give them out at my college campus and posted on bulletin boards. I had kids and a wife so it became impractical to carry on. In those days, before the dotbomb, I would average around $3-4k per month easily. But money is not everything and I would not dream of sending customers somewhere else because I could not bend the prices a little.

Foreign parts are not an excuse either. If so, then state, "These parts are extremely rare and could take up to 2 months to arrive via port". Don't make promises that you can't keep and don't get defensive with a customer for whatever reason. It leaves a mark as people will and do remember the alternative for sure.

Yeah, I do see things from both sides as well, but as a consumer moreso since they are what drive our economy and pay the proprieter's bills. Old, you said that you saw Sam and he was busy? Doing what? Selling items at this event and busting ass selling parts? Maybe he should get someone else to take care of his internet store front to assist those needy customers. No one is superman you know.

This is my opinion and that's that! :D
End, go ahead and quote me in bold and tear apart my post if you will. It is futile as I don't care and live in Texas anyway and California is far away from here.

Yes, I agree that there may be extenuating circumstances involved w/this. I would prefer not to speculate though. I believe that as a paying customer I should be updated in regards to the status of my order. Last I heard from Sam was he hadn't ordered my part due to the fact that he was waiting for someone else to pay. I haven't heard anything since then. If the item is on backorder,or something has occurred then that is fine and beyond his control. All he needs to do is let me know and I'll continue to wait patiently or try my luck elsewhere.

Mike, as a small business owner you should be able to relate to the fact that communication is an integral part of continuing to be successful in a customer relations based field. I have emailed and called to no avail as of yet. I've decided to attempt this avenue of communication to determine whether it may be a more effective means of obtaining an order status. I will also continue to email him for an update.

I'm not sweating getting scammed. He seems to be an honest and hardworking guy. I just want to know whether he can order the part or not. If he can't or won't get the piece then I need to know so that I can attempt to purchase it elsewhere.

this pisses me off...

blxmjx> you had your own answer in your original post and i dont understand why you are posting this everywhere. if he hasnt responded it probably because he has no news for you. you will get your parts. lay off the posts.

zero.counter> living in texas is no excuse for being gay. try knowing what you are talking about next time you post.
i live in texas too, but unlike you, i have the intellegence to know what i am talking about when i post. i have bought many things from jspec, and i have met sam - in person, talked to him, and even got advice on my car - and i KNOW he is a good guy. his "non-caring attitude",as you call it, is directed towards people like you.

sam relys on his GOOD reputation to see customers through, and i would imagine a constant stream of emails would get annoying.

this pisses you off? Is there anything wrong w/hearing an update from Sam vs. me just speculating? I'm sure Sam can speak for himself. I have also met Sam and bought stuff from him in the past. He is definitely a nice guy, I'm not trying to say otherwise. I'm just saying somewhere along the lines there has been a break of communication of some way, shape or form. Whether it be from him forgetting, him not getting my email or me not getting a reply. Personally I'd rather hear a status report from him rather then just assuming its status.

Zero Counter : Enough said. That's what I'm thinking too.

I think the people coming up and protecting jspec is just non-sense. If Sam get paid and promised the customer, there's no excuse to break the promise. any company which cannot accomplish what they've promised is a bad company. it doesnt matter if the company is small or not. If Sam is that busy I think he better off get someone to help his business, or just stop the business. Just because he's well know and legit doesn't mean he can leave do whatever he wants and leaves his customers alone. Just because you people think Sam is a good guy doesnt mean he can treat some of his customers like shit. Sam can be a good guy and being nice to you, but it doesnt mean he's nice to everybody. In this case he's lack of communication with his customer. he broke his promise too.

fraglpunk: if Sam broke his promise, the customer has 100% right to send him 'stream of emails' to annoy him and get to know what's going on. If you were getting ignored what would you do? Just calm down and think "OHHH Sam is a GOOD GUY...I better not bother him since he is SOO BUSY....and I'm gonna wait for the stuffs that I already PAID IN FULL....OHH Sam is SOO nice...He'll remember my stuffs when he LIKEs TO..." ????!!!!

Breaking promise + Bad communication = BAD BAD Company.

sorry, this is not what I wanted. I just wanted an update from Sam or one of his friends to let him know that I was looking for an update. I have nothing against Sam or his company. He's a good guy w/good intentions. I wish no ill will upon him.

Can a mod please lock this thread?

update:

Sam emailed me tonight and refunded my money. He apologized for lagging and explained that he's been super busy lately. He's been having to deal w/his japanese parts guy who has been super busy himself and I guess one person has been lagging on paying so he could get the order together. Sam took full responsibility of the situation. He's a standup guy, I will definitely place future orders w/him again. Some circumstances are just unavoidable.

Now can anyone else source me a set of grille pieces for an s15 bumper?:)
