View Full Version : At what rev u shift gears???
I always was wondering what is the best rev to shift gears on a stock KA? i used to feel more powerfull when shift around 5600-5700, i change the intake and feels better closer to 6000 now
I did a custom intake wonder if really get more powerfull or just changed the power band
P.S: yeah my english sucks! ^_^

at the track, I shift 58-6200 rpm. sometimes much higher, depends on the corner.

Optimal shift points depends on what motor you have and what you have done to it. You don't want to shift too high on most ka's because there is more power lower in the rpm rather than higher.

6500-1st, 6100-2nd-5th(Intake, exhaust, pully, msd)
Played around with this alot. I can't be sure that these shift points are the best but the car seems to get through the gears much stronger.
so i was rigth and was not my imagiantion, i got a little more power with the filter =)
wanna check the work i done? i think it was good work looks nice ^_^
check =)

That's nice the way you got the filter that close to the throtle body

My shifts depend on my mood. It is at 4 RPM normal and above that everytime else.
bik: Yeah I agree it looks nice next to the throttle body. Where did you move the battery and what is in place of the original spot for the filter?
Kinda nice you moved the battery too because I think it may be a cause of why most 240 radiator reservoirs are cracked. What kinda of radiator hose is that? Looks funny.

Besides that wild radiator hose I agree that it looks good with the distance in relation to the throttle body. I agree mrmemphis it does look like that. I guess I didn't really notice til you said something, but after you did I must agree.
wanna see the car? is very very very diry and need work yet O_O i am waiting for a new front bumper to get the car painted =P
still not decided what color i will get it, i dont like the dark green =(
probably will paint it black or yellow (or both =P yellow with black roof) hehe -_^

I would really like to know where you got that radiator hose from. I did the same deal as you and the piping presses against that hotass hose and messes with my maf. heres a pic how I did mine incase anybodies interested.

What are you guys cutting into your cars with, pliers? I've never seen such RUDE cuts.. dirty bastards.
To answer the question, there is only ONE shift point in the KA..
6500 - KA24E
6900 - KA24DE
u shift at the redline????
that will not get speed faster u know... O_o
the motor feels very weak at 6500 cant u feel it?

when i wait till the redline it doesnt feel as strong. When i am drag racing i usually shit 1st redline and all othe gears at 6000 like evryone else is saying
Got Sileighty?

i shift at 2500-2700rpm. 3000rpm when i feel the need....the need for speed! hehehehe save some gas people! sheesh :D

normal traffic and driving 2.5-3k rpm... if i feel like not accelerating at all (which i do alot actually) 1.5-2k rpms... which makes the car want to stall... shakes a bit lol. pisses of all the people behind me going from red to green. semi aggressive driving 5-5.5k... i don't trust the motor, plus most cars kill me on straights anyway. however, i (and most of u guys also, i bet) enjoy the feeling of chasing down a car in a corner after he's just dusted ur ass in a straight. also i dun particularly like drag but if i do go from start i cut 1st gear really short... on my car it feels like it does nothing after 4.5k
masta : 4k for normal driving? ur burning alot of gas lol. O.o

1991-1994 ka24de redline = 6900
s14 redline is back down to 6500.
Shifting at redline is not optimal. Get your car dyno'd or find someone else's dyno and you'll see why. Power dips way down.
Personally, normal driving I shift at 2500, and racing it's 7000-7200, with rev-limiter at 7500.

NA KA needs nothing else than to be constantly WOUND UP, this means full throttle driving under ALL conditions. Anyone who doesnt drive like this is being a sissy and is worrying about gas mileage (yawn).
I had my KA stripped to shit with full intake, light flywheel, header/exhaust, and no emissions at all.. it revved up to 6700 smoothly and shot fireballs under extreme shifting -- I didnt feel any downside in power, it was smooth all the way up to 6700. When I would shift, I would instantly be back in my powerband with plenty amount of power to burn...
I dont know why this question is even being asked, just drive your car.. you should be able to determine which RPMs are right for what driving situations. For the type of driving I do, unless I was driving in traffic, it was red line all the time. :) 170k of hard fireball shooting miles before I blew her up.

From what i know from the track is when i redline 1st and shift at 6000 all through 4th i was able to shift into fourth a little earliar so i dont lose any time shifting from 3rd to 4th at the end. But basically if you redline you are still accelerating but not as fast, when you shift earliear like 6000 your accelerating faster but youll have to shift faster.
well i cant really choose to tell you the truth. i got a dam auto tahts whY! well it aint that bad on roads with hills.
