Me? I work fulltime as a customer service rep for AT&T wireless, been there since september of 2000.

aside from being a full time student (Music Performance major and history major) at the University of Wisconsin - Madison....

i'm a musician (bass player) in about 5 bands - a funk band, a strange indie rock + jazz fusion band, a metal band, a jazz quartet, and a jazz big band. i also have an endorsement deal with Warwick basses. i used to teach lessons too, which i will probably resume over the summer.

and i also work at the UW-Madison computer helpdesk: some phone support, some walk-in, and some 'computer alone time.' it's a fun job.

i graduated from Rutgers College last May with a BA in Computer Science. now i'm working a job in lower Manhattan near Wall St for AI Credit, a subsidiary of AIG. i handle computer leasing and sales... not quite where i thought i'd be but a paycheck is a paycheck. i suppose i should count myself lucky to have gotten a job out of college. i'm also about 4 blocks from ground zero. scary. i am currently pwned by my girlfriend and my mechanically challenged 240sx.

Part-time "Tire Technician" at Discount Tire/America's Tire. Change, rotate, balance, repair, new stuff, etc... Been there since last May. Everytime I try to find a better job, I can't cuz of 3 things 1) I like what I'm doing. 2) I get paid well, and 3) They are very flexible around my school schedule. I also own my own business. It could be extremely successul, I'm just being too damn lazy. Anyone in the SD area wanna make some money with me? *serious*

Only working about 25 hours/week right now. Next semester I plan on being a full time employee/full time student. Sounds like fun to me.

I scan peoples' medical records and upload them to a website where insurance companies can retreive them. I sometimes to customer service on the phone, calling doctor's offices and hospitals to ask for the records, which I hate. But it's always fun reading crazy peoples' psychiatric records. Brightens my day :)

Well lets see, im a jack of all trades as far as computer related work is concerned, I specialize in web development and design with Flash, Coldfusion and PHP, and I have been doing that for multiple companies for the last couple of years. As of right now however since my wife jetted and cleared my bank accounts and maxxed my credit cards, effectively putting my new web development business under (and causing me to have a major breakdown), I am a sales associate at a local Kmart, making less than I even made when I was a highschool student. Such a fall from grace.

I go to school full time at Art Center College of Design, and i'm a teaching assistant on the side for car money, and a moocher for school money. I don't have food money it goes to feed my car.

Currently i'm looking for some free-lance storyboarding or illustration work to do on my semester off.

Hopefully when I have to get a real job in a a year or two, i'll have a place in the entertainment industry(gunning for ILM, Disney, or anyplace that'll pay me to doodle), drawing spaceships or chicks in skimpy clothing. If theres no place for me there then i'm going home to be a doorman for 80 grand(not a typo) a year with my cousin at a hotel and do freelance work on the side.

Maeda : ur so lucky... i wanted to go to art school but my overly controlling asian parents would have nothing of it. they forced me into computer science so i would have a 'stable future.' lol... 2 years into college and the tech market crumbled. there is no such things as a stable tech job anymore... or career building in companies like AT&T as it was back in the 90s. techs are more like freelance agents now imo... learn, earn and go. thanks mom & dad! just goes to show... parents DONT always know best. we should keep that in mind when raising our future kids someday...

STI : i for one believe in karma... so if ur really down; someday ur gonna be really up. hang in there and good luck with the future s13!

I actually dislike the notion of being in care, dealing with the idiots that we have to deal with daily, but postings for other positions are so scarce that I continue to do it... I'm waiting to finish school and get the hell out, but the option of leaving to go elsewhere isn't really a wise decision, no one else would pay me what I make now...

Basically I take care of all the internal stuff for the pilots and aircrew. When I get to japan, I will be onboard the USSKittyhawk with VFA-102 the new FA-18 superhornets. There I will be on the flight line, maitaining the gear in a not so in depth fashion(as I do now), but still making sure it is operable, if not I pull it and replace it with new.

The new FA-18's helmets, visors and powerpacks alone cost over $225,000. Soooo we can't afford to drop anything. So, there is where all your tax dollars go....hahaha, j/k

Hey PHLIP, you still there? I need you to backdate my bill and you guys took away my free weekends. Just F'ing around. I was in Cust. care for about 3/4ths of a year in the Harrisburg call center, I fuck'd it up though and quit before they fired my worthless ass. It was a beautiful part of my life. Had a desk overlooking the river valley looking west. The sun would set and it was a beautiful thing. I had my girl on the otherside of me sitting at the next desk, f'd that up too. I was always so damn high. I just didn't know what I had going on and I let it all slip away. But yeah AT&T wireless right when they split up with the other half of AT&T.

Hows the no notice carrier change thing going? I heard from the ex that everbody was on edge and that you guys were trying to "pre-emptive strike" the customers with deals to get them to renew the 2 year contract agreements.

Keep an eye on Que for me.:p

You know, that first quetion is one of the things that infinitely PISSES me off about the job, the people that call in and actually mean it... I have been there long enough to almost demand a window seat whenever I am near enough to one, but there is no view, just a bigass field and a rest home at my current window. I remember the hooplah that went about the AT&T/AT&T Wireless split, those bastards were bringing my stock value down, good riddance.
As far as the change in carrier and still keeping the number, it's not a no-notice thing, actually, people are still subject to the terms of contracts and shit and will be charged termination fees if applicable, and AT&T wireless is losing the most people because they took the most bullshit and low-profile approach to trying to keep people, sending stuff in the mail and calling people on the phone, like ANYONE talks to telemarketers or reads mail that isn't their bill. All the while, everyone else changes major shit and blows a LOAD of cash on advertising, like we SHOULD have. As a result, everyone and their grandmammy calls in to cancle their service now, but hell with them, I get paid anyway. Matter of fact, they have been offering OT with reckless abandon and I am taking all I can get. They sweetened the deal yesterday by telling us that all pre-approved overtime will be payed DOUBLE time and not just the normal time and a half. I am working at least 16 hours this week and the weekend hasn't been established yet, but I will take all I can get then too. I find myself in a bit of a quandary, I REALLY dislike talking to most of the people I talk to on that phone, but when you hang damn near 30 an hour in my face it makes that a little easier to ignore, some shit just rolls off...

Keep that money in the front of your mind, and remember that almost nobody likes their job or does it for the fun. It's the MONEY.

Sucks you don't get a view. I would stare out that window and go into auto-matic mode and just glance back and forth from the comp. screen and the sunset.

You know what I hated about that place? was when somebody would call up pissed as hell and you would finally get them calmed down and believing in your ability to resolve the problem. You get them to give you enough info to call up their shit. And you go into thier ?service?log and you would see all the former reps correcting something and then another rep screwing it up and you just had to end up adding yourself to that chain of reps that was just doing the same thing over and over again without actually solving the real problem. There was this distinct sense of futility that I got sometimes. In training they told us resolving the problem was the main goal, and then you get up top on the phones and you have to fly through those calls like a madman. With the big issues you were forced into some slimey manuver that didn't really do shit but made them temporarely happy. I felt pressured to just get them off the phone and get on to the next one in que. It got frustrating.

The other thing was that nobody calls Customer service if they are happy with the service. The first thing you had to do with every single custy was get them believing in your ability and calm. You can't snap back at them. rightfully so, the cust is always right, but I had to really put up with some verbal abuse. and that started to get to me after a while. After 10 hours of listening to people bitch at high volume in one of my ears I just wanted to crawl into a cave and lay there like I was dead.

But I still wish I would have stayed. The women were Bloat, well some of them, the money was Very good, and I felt like i was somebody. Stick in there as long as possible and rake in them dollars. It sounds like your a part time employee so it could be worse. 20 an hour, shit you'll be sporting RB power with that kind of flow. Good talking:D auto

nah, Paton's different. similar place though. only difference is the ones there are more violent. while the ones i work with can get violent, for the most part theyre not. bascially my position just deals with the entertainment of the patients. i take them to the movies or the mall or where ever. its funny when they break out with their "voices" :p then the go off in the middle of the mall or something and i have to settle them down.
