Has anybody ever seen this or messed with it? in thoughts on how it might works?
I think its a pretty cool idea. I saw it on the 5zigen RSX they made seemed like a really neat idea, for a race car.

the little button acts as a clutch. i dont know how it works exaclty though
i dont know why though i could never see myself using those systems. pressing the button instead of the clutch and shifting. its just im not use to it. even sequentials. sometimes when i play racing arcade games that have no clutch or drive tiptronic cars i always find myslef lifting my foot from the gas. ill stick to my regular manual.

i dont have a clue but from what i read it looks like it would be better on a auto vs. stick i dont understand how it would work on a manual

i know the button replaces the clutch. so when you shift instead of pressing down the clutch you push the button. what i dont get is how 1st gear would work. rev then drop the clutch?

i have no clue what you people are talking about. From what i understand by reading it the button is just an on/off switch. When its on you just push or pull on the shifter. When you push it automatically clutches and shifts up for you, and when you pull on the shifter it clutches and shifts down. It doesn't sound like the button is used as a clutch at all. Either i miss-interpretted what all i read or no one here actually when the article thing.

all that system does is act as sport shift. That's all. Sport shift is lame because there's a delay time before it actually shifts gears. Not nearly as good as real manual.

The button doesn't act as a Clutch. All the button does is turn on and off the Manual system or Automatic system. Exactly like the sport shift on a TL type S or something.

Pick up the latest Super Street and read the article about the 5Zigen Integra Type R. It tells you how the TMCS works, although I don't think the people that drove the car are at liberty to divulge details.

Seems all that thing does is save your left foot some work. In automatic mode you still have to tell it to shift up or down. Or that's what I think the description says...
whats with all these tiptronic, auto/stick, clutchless transmissions. i can see the sequentials...it actually makes shifts quicker, but putting these stupid things in cars where people arent gonna use them anyway(atleast i think theyre annoying to deal with, im in an is300 and it still shifts like an automatic. i hit the button then i pass redline, then it decides to shift.)
im not sure if im totally correct, but the way it works with an automatic is that theres a "sun" gear that opens up during the shift and then closes back down, but its got 3 gears within it, which is why automatics have that wierd delay between gears. (once again im not totally sure) but with the auto/stick crap all you do tell the transmission when to do that..in the end all you do fuck shit up because the computer knows better, when to shift...when your gunnin it, or when your just cruisin.
if im completely wrong, please feel free to correct me, its one of the few things that actually piss me off, just lettin off some steam. 'sigh' i feel better now

Silk, I'm with you on all these new "manual" automatics.
I've driven a mercedes suv, and a acura 3.2 TL with them. (used to be a valet) They let you rev a little higher, but they shift automatically after a certain point. Say your on the expressway cruising in 5th. Hit the switch, and drop it to 4th. It's in 4th for about 2 seconds then it automatically shifts you back to 5th. <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':('>
They really don't give you more control.
Anyways, that system sound kinda cool, but probably really expensive and it has WAAAY too much possiblity of having problems.
Also, if if fits a Silvia, it probably won't work on a 240. Unless you've done the the sr20 swap and have an sr20 transmission.

I just re-read the article, and I'm still confused.
Judging by the somewhat awkward wording, and the list of cars its available for, I'm guessing its been translated from Japanese to English.

tiptronic is comlete utter bullshit ive driven a beamer with it and its just sucks. on the acura that i drove also you couldnt choose when to shift into second the car had todo it for you. one thing thats fun though is downshifting with that thing before a turn.

I was wondering about this, Can you set the shift points on the Auto option or is it set in stone? Cuz It would be nice if you are racing for somthing big (pink, or lot of cash) and you dont want to fux up, and grind, can u put it in auto and set it to red line every gear? I think that would be a kewl thing. I know that with some auto cars, they have a button on their car so they can make it so that it red lines every gear, I would think you could set this one up like that.
