you didn't specify that you wanted to keep your low end power, you just said you wanted the loudest exhaust. in that case, you're outta luck. most n/a exhuasts are rather quiet.
edit: but yeah, in general the double D is the loudest exhaust you can put on a KA besides straight pipes right after the header.

I don't really care about low-end power loss if there is enough high-end gain, but if the exhuast is too large for a N/A application then I will loose power thorughout the RPM range...let me rephrase...with the DD will I gain any power (high,mid,low...whatever RPM range) I expect I'd loose some of that KA's famous mid range TQ

why would you want the loudest exhaust? :bash:
cut your exhaust off at the header and boom, super loud exhaust.

What is the best exhaust system(in everybodys opinion,or dyno-proven) that takes the least away from mid range while adding the most to high end with a nice sound ? or whats your fav. exhaust and why ? I want to make sure to do as much research as possible before investing, this car is on a budget

Anybody? I'm not asking about the loudest......I'm just wondering what Y'all think is best and why(IE best comprimise between low-end,mid-range and high-end HP for N/A Ka24DE,what you think sounds least like an Angry H-box and more like amean ready to rumble Nissan ?)

JIC exhaust systems are loud and deep. Way louder than the Apexi N1. And they come for N/A and Turbo applications. I got good gains on it =P on my GSR.. and love it to death.
If any of you live in the bay area and are interested in getting one. I got good hook ups on them.

I have my resonator and my muffler out right now. It's LOUD. It has the best sound from 4-6k at full throttle. Otherwise it sounds like gurgling water.
Im gonna get a 2-chamber flowmaster put on in a couple days. I bet it will sound nice

If I do N1,its gonna be the N1 Dual without question, that was my first choice, but it seems like a SHITTON of people on here have that, good in alot of sences, but I just wanted to keep my options open and hear what y'all had to say about it...my main concern is that everybody says it hangs low, wich isn't too fly in my opinion....bad experience with a low-ass car (my moms old bonneville, long wheelbase and long plastic bumpers don't mix!)
Would I have much low-end and mid-range loss with a GReddy DD? I don't hear much about that,I don't like that the muff or canister is not at the stock location, nissan put it at the end of the car,and so did all the other aftermarket manufactors for a reason !
Anyway, wheres the cheapest I could get an N1 dual or GReddy DD? I been havin trouble findin people that sell the DD,some say its for turbo only....
EDIT:I geuss I am thinking about this WAY too much, but I am building this baby on a budget, and I can't afford to slap another exhuast on there, when I spend my 500-700$ hard earned bucks (hopefully less!) I want to love what I get out of it!
BTW:The guy that started this post has only 2 posts,I am not too concerned about stealing this thread

All this exhaust discussion is crap. Just get a fucking exhaust and slap that shit on your car.
Want loud? Go straight pipe with whatever size piping you want. Want to keep some torque? Go with 2.25 or 2.5. What NO torque? Go with 3".
Got an SR? Go with 3"
Want a bit LESS sound? Add a resonator and possibly a muffler.. whatever.
Its an exhaust.. its purpose is to muffle the sound. The most performance ones are the ones that use mandrel piping, thats it.. thats the only science to it.. straightest piping are least restrictive and most power.. everything else is just brand name show off shiet to impress mom and dad.

I read it plenty of times, its amazingly funny how people like you and him put down other people to make yourselves look better,he said that this discussion is crap, well if it crap then you don't have to read it or post on it,I am not dissing you....but why are you intentially starting shit for no reason? Who's the dumbass here?
White guy who listens to rap,and SOMETIMES wears ghetto brands, and has his sn as "ghetto" b/c its an inside joke between freinds and wants to make smart investments on his car so he wants to make sure to ask the people who have had expereince in a realm that he knows NOTHING about,he used to be one of those guys that made fun of people in 240sx's and civics and etc. b/c his chevelle would easily blow them off the road...
or:
some guy who reads a forum and starts shit for no reason ?
Honestly thats one of the reasons I like this forum so much and don't touch the others is b/c the majority of the people here are actually smart, and have done alot to their cars,or know people that have done alot, and understand that one there was aperiod in their life they didn't understand SHIT about the S13 or S14,and MOST of them don't start talking trash and crap without a real reason to,yeah if somebody says something retarded they'll flame him out as should be,but whats so wrong with asking about cat-back's ? I don't care about loudness,I am used to a loud exhuast,my last 2 cars were V-8s and VERY VERY loud and I never got a ticket ONCE b/c of the loudness of them,my neighbors are used to me driving something loud, both in how it looks and sounds, they have given up on complaining b/c I told them that 'I'm into cars, you can complain, but its just wasting your time,I am not doing anything illegal just b/c I like fast cars'
first two cars were as follows:
1971 Chevelle W/Dual 2.5" or 3",can't honestly remeber,and flowmaster muffs 5.1L V-8(307ci),forced to sell b/c needed some circumstances
stupidly replaced with
1984 Thunderbird with a swapped 5.0 from a wrecked 91 Stang GT,with full lengh headers,K&N air filter, dual cats(no names) and no muffs, wasn't very fast, looked like shit too, needed a paint job BAD,I got rid of that thing fast,I didn't do my HW on this car and thats why I got fucked over on it,the thing was falling apart, nice engine, sounded nice, had a little get up and go,thats about it !
Thats all I have to say bro.........:)

I am reading an automotive encyclopedia right now, and it says that the less back pressure you have the more torque and horsepower gain you will get. So why is everyone saying that you need back pressue to keep good torque? I have also seen dyno results that back this information up. :) Oh yeah. I love the run on sentences. Oh and I know I can't spell if anything is wrong.

Because you NEED backpressure. If you run header-out (like I have) you will soon feel the absolute lack of torque.
As for kracker dude, just listen to other people's exhausts and make a damn decision. Dont get so uptight over something so stupid. Its like saying which air filter is the best, who cares.. as long as they do a good job. It gets to a point where ANYTHING is better than stock, the only major difference is the brand...
I mean come on, do you seriously think one exhaust will give you a LOT more power than another? The key is mandrel bent.. get nice proper sized piping and less restrictive muffler, thats it. From there its all "do i want dual tip, single tip, cannon ball shooter" blah blah..

excuse me but my money doesn't come easy son,and I want to make sure that I spend my money wisely
If you want to be frugal and/or spend money wisely, find a local muffler shop that does mandrel bending and get a custom exhaust bent up.
All you need to find is a decent universal muffler.
And that's not hard, because just about every company who makes exhausts sells universal mufflers.
An exhaust, is an exhaust, is an exhaust.
It's just a pipe to direct the spent gases out of your engine.
And unless your car is a pure competition race car, the minor differences in gains you may or may not get from different brand systems is pointless.
The only real thing you should think about is if it's going to be for a turbo car or not.
And, how loud you want to be.
So, make the choice yourself; do you want brand name and bling, or do you want function?
It's your decision.
.Eddie.

Dont you guys get it? I feel bad for those who go spend 600 dollars on an exhaust system cause you feel that you have to sport a brand name muffler. 600 bucks is reasonable for a header, all new piping, a new muffler a tip, and labor., but just for a catback.??!?! You guys are ripping yourselves off. I just got my 2-chamber flowmaster(replaced the old pacesetter) and took the resonator off. The flowmaster costs 60 bucks and another few bucks for a stainless steel tip and welding. I LOVE how it sounds now. Deep tone. Dont fool yourselves. You're making some fat japanese guy richer by the minute.

Not exactly....
Like I said, the construction of the product AND the materials use, ALL come into account when determining a price of something.
SO, while 600 may be a lot of money.. its NOT lets say, for a FULL titanium exhaust, right?
Look at the welds of a 60 dollar exhaust and tell me they are nice and clean, like those of a 600 dollar exhaust. Its true, you get what you pay for.. but you have to have a standard or idea of WHAT you want on your car.

$60 with what kind of piping ? I kind of agree with the statement "you get what you paid for" my biggest prob is I don't know what an appropriate size would be for my N/A, I've got a hole in my exahust now, wich is why I want to change it,I plan on doing CAI at the same time, and shortly thereafter high-flow cat, hotshot header ,and in some months oversized valve job....so I need it to work with what I've got,and what I will have ! I like some of the universal muffs I've seen on eBay,my concern is their quality, I've seen some Megan Racing styles I like, anybody give MR props ?
Sorry if I made abig deal,I'm stil getting used to it, on a V-8 the exhuast is easy to set-up...loud or quiet? you want quiet you put on flowmaster 50's and a cut out behind the headers for the track, you want loud ? flowmaster 30's ! add that to the biggest pipes you could afford at the local exhuast shop(or biggest they'd bend) and bam-o!

Mandrel bends aren't any better on a n/a KA. You might notice like 1 hp gain with a mandrel bent exhaust than with minimal bending crush bent exhuast. The only time you will notice a big difference in crush bent and mandrel bent is if you are pushing like 275+ hp. When you are discussing a N/A KA, don't worry about a mandrel bent exhuast. ;)

It's 60 bucks for the muffler. The piping is stainless steel 2.5 inch from where the resonator was cut to the muffler. If you are worried about mandrel bending and bullshit like that..you can spend the 600 bucks and get your heads ported and get way more power than any kind of bending would do.

You cant be seriously using that as a reason. Plus i was talking about a muffler. There are no weld marks. And your shiny new catback has to get welded on by your muffler guy anyways. Plus it's under the damn car!!! nobody is gonna give you props for having clean welds. lol

I am willing to spend $1000's on my actual engine, headwork and internals and such,I just said I am building her on a budget, wich is true,I will have to save up,but not alot,I make good money,I work hard for it, but I can't honestly see spending $400-$1,300 on a f*cking pipe and muffler w/o doing mad research to make sure its something I would be very content with, thats a shitton of money for a little pipe that goes to the back of the car ! Depends what you consider acceptable. Poor quality welds wont hold as well and will eventually break SOONER than a higher quality exhaust. Anytime you buy something, you have to take into account the materials they use.
When talking about rotors, you can easily take a crap rotor made in China and compare it to a Brembo (blank) made in Italy, the strength of the metal is what matters, plus better cast design etc. Same goes for mufflers, even though its not as important as brakes.. it all comes down to what YOU feel is acceptable for YOUR car. We're all different, right? I mean, last I checked NONE of the exhausts that ANY 240SX owner runs will be suitable for a McLaren F1, considering its exhaust and manifold is ALL titanium and the entire engine bay is lined with gold. So, I think quality of materials does make a difference -- but it all depends on what satisfies your standard, with or without blowjob.
You cant be seriously using that as a reason. Plus i was talking about a muffler. There are no weld marks. And your shiny new catback has to get welded on by your muffler guy anyways. Plus it's under the damn car!!! nobody is gonna give you props for having clean welds. lol
My catback was nice and shiney, until I painted it flat black. :) But, underneath that paint I know the welds and piping are quality.
- Mike
Yes. You are absolutely correct. I bought brembo rotors myself. They are an important part of the car. You will crash if they are crap.
BUT....
I dont get using good and bad welds as an excuse to pay for a catback. You are making the assumption that all welders in the US cant weld and the only good ones are in Japan. What kind of reasoning is that? I've never had anyone complain to me that the welds on their exhaust were bad. This is the problem i was trying to address in the first place. Most ppl think that if it doesnt come from a factory in Japan it isnt quality. That's BULLSHIT.

BS!!! The welder in your town must be ignorant.
Using your reasoning nobody should get a custom roll cage cause the material and welding will never be as good as do-luck, or cusco, where they use magical welding dust and elven welders with thousands of years of experience to make quality products.
And the quality piping you speak of, this metal they call "Titanium". i guess good old stainless steel wont hold the exhaust gases coming out of your engine. And please dont compare our cars with the McLaren. Put a million dollars into a 240sx and see what it could have.

BACK ON TOPIC!!
Loudest exhaust. . . my sister's SOHC was pretty god damn loud when I ran an open header. . . actually sounded pretty beefy. . . and loud. . . Very loud. If the original post is still around, why do you want the loudest? I mean, sure you can annoy everybody you drive past, but think of how much it will start to annoy you when you're cruising down the highway. Discomfort of random strangers is great, but at what cost?
Im sorry i didnt mean to come off as angry. I was laughing as i typed that post.

ok you want a custom exhaust - a flag in your hand, and please storm that hill sir. you dont- great also.
its "just a pipe with a muffler". many companies dyno tune their exhausts and make em to perfection, since R&D cost so much, you have to pay for it rather than some redneck halfassweliding your exhaust. materials are also important, i have 5zigen fireball for my zenki and im very happy with it. :D

dude quit being suck a cock, I feel like smashing your head in with my fist.
I never said it must COME from fucking Japan, all I said is that the exhaust must be good quality -- price TENDS to follow quality, so be sure to research what you buy.. see it, touch it, hear it, fuckit'.. just get a good exhaust -- thats my point.
If you DONT want to pay for a good exhaust, dont.. who gives a shit. It'll sound like ass and get a hole in it or rust within a few years.. wow, great.. this is why there are idiots in the world.
Classic example? My uncle who buys cheap cordless telephones. Always has and always will buy them. Everytime he calls I fuckin despise talking to him because he has nothing good to say AND his phone has all this static and interference..
anyway i dunno why i am so pissed off, mostly because you make yourself sound stupid by arguing the same shit over and over.. and because this thread is stupid!
Last, a McLaren F1 is a fucking McLaren F1. Dont be stupid, you CANNOT take a 240SX and invest 1 million dollars on it, because it would still be shit. You'de have to rebuilt the ENTIRE car with completely new carbon fiber and aluminum components to be a 240SX, and that would be one of the most absolute stupid things I've ever heard of. If you are going to do something, start with a good foundation.
pimp.. pimp my nuts. :)

its "just a pipe with a muffler". many companies dyno tune their exhausts and make em to perfection, since R&D cost so much, you have to pay for it rather than some redneck halfasswelding your exhaust. materials are also important, i have 5zigen fireball for my zenki and im very happy with it. :D
hah hah....CHARGE!!
I understand they do alot of R&D including dynometer testing,I was kind of just thinking about its alot of $$ for an exhaust, dyno tuned or not ! Thats all ! I still am confused about custom vs. aftermarket cat-back,good point about half-assin' it and etc.,and I like the idea of already knowing (somehwhat if I haven't actually heard it) what my KA is going to sound like ! Pretty much I have starting considering custom but that just means I am that much farther away from deciding

Yeah I'm gonna keep posting because I'm still pissed at this level of stupidity.
TITANIUM is not used because it should withstand the enormous amounts of exhaust pressure, thats not the point. Titanium is used because its light-weight, period!
Where does this matter? Well, since idiots are so happy to put carbon fiber all over their cars.. it should be known that the less flashy TITANIUM is useful because its both light AND strong.
That was the point I was trying to make. I was trying to say that each material has its pro's and con's. Okay.. now I dont feel so angry. Sorry for being a dick.. lets be friends.

A small scientific fact that has been researched heavily, and proven many times: Titanium is very resistant to heat as in less heat is radiated from the pipe/muffler(s) because less is absorbed by the Titanium, therefore cooler under car tempuratures...(not to rant,or be an asshole or anything....)

Back to the origin of the thread, I recently purchased a Megan racing cat-back exhaust system for $308 shipped with great welds, mirror finish, and deep/loud sounding when over 3k rpms. The only problem is, it has 3in. piping and is not the best for N/A. I did what Mike did and painted most of it up to the muffler with high-temp flat black as well. for more rust protection.
I also got a stright-pipe from megan racing on e-bay with the O2 Bung polished and bolts right up to the old OBX header. That was $65 shipped and made it even louder.
I went crazy with heat wrap in some areas.

This is a good question. Since you are on the internet, you might want to read up on exhaust and backpressure to understand the whole concept. Start here, for info on mufflers and their roles. (http://auto.howstuffworks.com/muffler.htm/printable)
Then here for exhaust headers and what they can do for you. (http://auto.howstuffworks.com/question172.htm/printable)
And then this article (http://auto.howstuffworks.com/framed.htm?parent=muffler.htm&url=http://www.nsxprime.com/FAQ/Miscellaneous/exhausttheory.htm) , with special attention to this excerpt, "
Pipe Sizing
We've seen quiet a few "experienced" racers tell people that a bigger exhaust is a better exhaust. Hahaha… NOT.
As discussed earlier, exhaust gas is hot. And we'd like to keep it hot throughout the exhaust system. Why? The answer is simple. Cold air is dense air, and dense air is heavy air. We don't want our engine to be pushing a heavy mass of exhaust gas out of the tailpipe. An extremely large exhaust pipe will cause a slow exhaust flow, which will in turn give the gas plenty of time to cool off en route. Overlarge piping will also allow our exhaust pulses to achieve a higher level of entropy, which will take all of our header tuning and throw it out the window, as pulses will not have the same tendency to line up as they would in a smaller pipe. Coating the entire exhaust system with an insulative material, such as header wrap or a ceramic thermal barrier coating reduces this effect somewhat, but unless you have lots of cash burning a hole in your pocket, is probably not worth the expense on a street driven car.
Unfortunately, we know of no accurate way to calculate optimal exhaust pipe diameter. This is mainly due to the random nature of an exhaust system -- things like bends or kinks in the piping, temperature fluctuations, differences in muffler design, and the lot, make selecting a pipe diameter little more than a guessing game. For engines making 250 to 350 horsepower, the generally accepted pipe diameter is 3 to 3 ½ inches. Over that amount, you'd be best off going to 4 inches. If you have an engine making over 400 to 500 horsepower, you'd better be happy capping off the fun with a 4 inch exhaust. Ah, the drawbacks of horsepower. The best alternative here would probably be to just run open
exhaust! " -from Overboost.com
EDIT:Sell it soon? hmm...that can't be a good sign.......
As I said, the car I am working on is a project car, going turbo in the near future. I use my S14 for daily driving.

-Buy a pair of "Fireball style" or "N1 style" mufflers on eBay or somewhere, maybe actually universal 5Zigens,or Apex'I n1's,and and a muff shop do the piping,I like the dual N1 cat-back but I don't like it sits so low,a shop could make it sit higher
-Buy a universal muffler, hopefully brand name,at least Megan Racing and have a muff shop do it
-Buy a cat-back system, most likely GReddy DD or 5Zigen Fireball if I did that !
My wallet is screaming to get a single muff and have it custom bent ! hah hah....we'll see,I like the idea of a custom/unique exhaust system,I've heard dual Fireballs on a ....ahem,on something(It had ram horns on it,and a 4 cylinder....thats all I'm saying  ) and it sounded pretty nice,I imagine it would sound ALOT better on a good ol' KA
Thanks everybody!

you love talking smack but now you're upset because i dish it back at you. i didnt post a pic of my exhaust for criticism, i posted it because a few people have been asking to see my exhaust.. big deal.
write whatever you want in your posts, like me or hate me, it really doesnt make a difference because those who know me KNOW i may be blunt, but shit I'm honest and say what I have to say.
you always rant around and criticize shit and i really dont pay it much attention because i am not money driven nor am i materialistic. this is why my car looks "stockish" and why i did that "misdeed" by painting my exhaust.
bottom line is, you gotta do what makes you happy. if you are happy with your car, its appearance, its setup.. than cool. If you do or dont work on your car, cool.. it doesnt bother me. Just quit the "higher than thou" attitude..

actually glen i fancy my self as a halfway decent driver since i know the basics of car control, using certain lines and ways of entering turns, threshhold braking, skid control, etc. I just drive the way that i enjoy and for pleasure, alittle spirited but more conservatively since i know what ever i do can affect my employment.

Anyway, since we have to call the car by the owner's name, as a play on words, should I call your car a 2FatasSX? And I call my car a Sxilvia, not a Silvia. It's a play on Silvia and SX.
You're right, I'm nicaraguan and you're Vietnamese.

Actually i thought your car was a clone of your idol rickys. since you copied his front end, gold volk wheels, and even engine. So i can call it Rik-copy-via instead.

You are an idiot. How the hell did you pass the background checks? It has truely become a sad day due for the usually honorable men and women of the police, since you joined them.
