I was driving and my engine (ka24de) just stalled. i towed it home and still can't figure out what is wrong with it. The car won't start, the battery is brand new, less than 6 months old and i charged it overnight as well. When i turn the key, i hear just one click and nothing happens, after a few bangs on the starter, the engine slowly turns over and then dies after 1 or two turns instantly. I try starting it again and it just turns and dies. I can't figure out what is wrong with it. Im guessing i need a new starter, but the car won't even start after i bang on the starter and the engine turns, so there has to be something else wrong with the car. Any ideas?

Tested the starter at Kragen and it's fine, passed with flying colors

Try hitting your alternator with a hammer and see if that helps, either way sounds like it's on its way out the alternator that is.....

well the battery is fully charged, and the car won't start so i don't think it's the alternator

pretty sure it's not the alternator...battery was recharged, sounds like the starter to me, I had the same thing happen to my car. I tried to hit the starter and the engine wouldn't start. It would just click. I pushed started my car a couple times but after that, push starting didn't work anymore. I bought a new starter and that solved the problem. I'm not saying that it is the starter for sure but try taking it out and getting it checked at the local auto parts store.

the weird thing is that if it was the starter, that wouldn't have caused my car to stall while driving (i was driving at maybe 15mph when it just cut out)

Battery connection possible. Had my clamps loose before everything cut out on me.. Just double check you got a good connection to that new battery

i checked all the battery connections and they seem just fine. Brand new terminals and everything

I just took the starter to kragen and they tested it 3 times, it passed with flying colors every time. It's not the starter.

So let's get things straight. When you try to start it, it will crank a few times and then what.. it dies like no power click click click dim lights and stuff? Is it cranking at normal speed? Have you tryed takeing a screwdriver and arcing the posts on the starter to bypass the ignition system? If you do that with the key on it should start..
Are you getting spark when it cranks?
Make a video and post it

I am getting no spark but the engine still won't turn over. It's a brand new battery and i tested the starter and it's perfectly fine. The only thing that happens when i turn the key and depress the clutch, is a single "click" sound. That's it. theres no spark but the spark plug wires/cap/rotor/distributor/spark plugs are all brand new.

Have you checked your hoses? There's probably a serious vacuum leak somewhere. My wife's 240 had the same issue the other day. I got in under the hood and sure enough, there were three hoses with cracks in them.

Have you checked the "eng cont" fuse under the hood, check all the fuses cause if the eng control blew it won't start, also can cause the 75 amp fuse for the alternator to blow, happens to me once

Will the engine even turn?

Like put it in nuetral and see if you can turn the crank?

how is your oil?

just wondering if the engine is siezed up?

although the starter would prolly do its clicky thing like normal if it was.

Check your codes on your ecu for anything, check your cap and rotor may of hit the crapper, pull out your plugs and check And clean em, check for broken timing chain, and blah blah blah not sure if getting fuel take off the receiving side of the fuel filter and put it posistion 2, and check ignition components.

But I bet my money on distributor ... Common for ka24de

i checked the distributor, cap, rotor, spark plug wires, spark plugs but i'm still getting no spark. all the fuses are fine. the engine will once in a while crank and turn over but not all the time. My battery is brand new.

I would check the clutch interlock relay (if it is manual) or the park interlock relay (ifi it is auto). This was the cause of my intermittent start issue and takes ~ 2 minutes to check in the auto parts store parking lot.

This is the starter relay under the hood NOT the two in the driver side kick panel.
