Cracked OEM plastic bumper repair **help**

Hello Zilvians,

I recently purchased a Silvia bumper for a good price knowing that I would have to take the challenge to repair it. I have a little experience with minor bodywork.

I've done my research, but for some reason there are like 6 different techniques for different types of bumpers. How would I go about to repair this sucker?

I used this product on an old Aero bumper. It worked magic.

Sand the crack down nicely and the surrounding area and apply the repair mix on to it (its fine to overkill). After 15 to 20 minutes (depends on the weather as it will start drying in 5 minutes during summer and 15 minutes during colder weather), start cutting off the excess on the outside of the bumper and keep inside for extra strength. Sand it until its smooth...

I repaired an aero bumper after rear-end somebody and people cannot even tell that it was fucked up pretty badly after the repair I did.

Thanks for the info guys. Any tips on how to actually KEEP the cracks in place as I glue them? Should I use some sort of tape to hold them together? They don't want to hold together unless I force them together.

Use this along with the 2 part SEM product. Make sure you "V" the crack, meaning bevel the edges in towards the tear. Make sure you scuff the plastic with atleast 80-120 grit paper. Use the mesh over the repair and push it into the "V", then apply the 2 parts adehesive and spread evenly. Once dry sand to finish. I have run tape from left side to right side to hold crack together but make sure the not to pull to tight, you wanna keep the bumper in it natural shape

I did it with my brother so one hold the bumper in shape and the other apply the mix. Tape helps as we only work on one side at a time.

You can pick up locally at your schrwinn-Williams auto supply store a 3m product - bumper repair kit.

to hold it together try using 2 clamps and long piece of wood. That might work.

Thanks again for the tips guys. I just used gorilla tape to hold the crack in place while the 3m glue sets in.

The clue has cured and set in and feels very rigid. I also took my time to sand down the entire bumper starting with a 150, down to a 240, and finishing it off with a 320.

Now I'm just waiting on some glazing putty to come in the mail. With that I'll use it as a bondo (that will not crack) to fill in grooves, pin holes etc.

I have3 done this a few times.

I just use and assload of plastic weld and a DA sander. Just keep waiting till it dries and fill it in over and over. Then sand between layers until its smooth.
Prime and paint.
