Hello guys, need some help with my new rebuilt KA. So after my complete rebuild i think my A/F is a little off. The new build has 900 miles on it. These symptoms was going on before the rebuild also. The car seems to run ok for the most part except these few issues: Hard starting, engine turns over about 5-6 times (10-15seconds) and stumbles a bit just before starting, runs ok after that. Some times white/light blue puff of smoke at startup only. Also im looking at the plugs to try to determine whats going on and im not sure. Here is the plug with 400 miles on brand new build.

The KA has new walbro 255, NGK plugs, plug wires, EGR delete, FPR has vac from intake. any ideas?

bad maf? bad tune? i had a bad maf before and it made my car run crazy rich and i had alot of those symptoms.also check all you vacuum lines and etc. if thats not it get an safc and tune it cause ive heard that your car runs alot richer when you do an egr delete

All the vac lines that are left are new after rebuild. (brake booster and FPR) I may get a Q45 MAF, also remember these same symptoms was going on even before the rebuild or EGR delete. I just put in a new Walbro 255 today and a new FPR will be here tomorrow.

well if you get a Q45 maf your gunna have to tune no matter what. anyways its gotta be a bad sensor considering the motor is rebuilt and you replaced all the lines

What sensors can cause this?

MAF?
Water temp sensor?
02?
all the above lol?

MAF is number one cause that whats determines the Air fuel ratio. then after that i would say o2 sensor. i doubt a water temp sensor would do anything like that. it could also be your knock sensor cause mine when out once and it changed the timing and it was running pretty fucked up for a minute. your car hasnt shot you any codes?

the hard start and stumble may be either ignition coil or fuel filter also have you checked the tps and make sure its at the correct setting. A bad O2 sensor could cause you to run rich but wouldnt affect start up much since it was doing it before the rebuild could be the ecu itself

what that guy said ^^^^. i would still check all your sensors

New fuel filter did nothing, and cleaned MAF but that made it much worse it seems oh and i did not use carb cleaner. Maybe need a new one.

Ignore the belt squeak and the odd way the camera makes it sound like air.

Probably a bad ECU Coolant Temp Sensor

Well, added new Coolant temp sensor and rotor cap and button today and adjusted/checked TPS. We will see how it goes.

Also scored a N60 MAF in great shape today from the scrapyard for $25. Just need a SAFC to put it on now.

Hows the compression of the cylinders? I would check that as you may have a timing issue.

So far so good, but i do have a timing question as i read that this can kill a engine easily. I adjusted my timing with a timing light at the crank pully lining up the timing marker with the 6th (last) notch to the right by turning the distributor. I read where nistune etc can change timing? Should i be looking into a way of checking the ecu for timing also?
