Hey everyone!

I've been on zilvia for a while, but I figured I should finally post up a build thread.lol You may have seen me spam the kouki aero thread a few times with this car. lol Overall to get to this point it took about 6 months. so, there was lots of living paycheck to paycheck. haha My plan when first starting this was to just have a really clean, streetable, fun car that is reliable but still puts down decent power. Well, lets take the blue pill, and see how far this rabbit hole goes! onward!

oh, and shoutout to KansaiDrifter for helping me out a bunch with this project. Alot of the bodywork is thanks to him since I'm still at noob at that stuff and it took some trial and error to get it looking decent on my part. haha

Usage?
Right now this car is my Daily Driver, and also the weekend track warrior. I haven't quite put it up to drifting yet, but I mostly do auto-x and lapping days with it.

New Shtuff
As for mods, right now it's just a stock dual-cam with intake and exhaust, but I plan on building a SR20VET the beginning of 2012. I just finished completely rebuilding the Tranny, and adding a B&M Short Shifter with HKS Shift Return Springs. So far, the thing feels like butter! it's a completely different car to drive. I love it!

Things to come
As for mods to come,All I really have left really is a 1piece driveshaft and a 1.5way OS Giken Diff to top things off. once those are done, then I'm going to start working on building my SR^_^ overall my HP goal should be around 300-400. enough to have fun at the track, but still keep the car streetable.

The position lights are OEM just with LED bulbs in them.

Yeah, alot of people have told me MOAR lower, especially in the front. haha for now though, I like it. maybe eventually I'll drop it just a tad in the front. but, it really only looks bad with certain angles. plus, when I eventually get my lip, I don't want downtown Seattle streets tearing it up. lol

As for the Yamato arms, yeah I was ballin on a budget. so, I went with what I could afford at the time. haha the type-x stuff set me back a bit, so I had to compensate in other areas. I figure, its better to get OEM aero, and go a bit cheaper on arms for now. than go legit on arms, and get version select aero that fits like poo.:p once the yamato stuff starts to wear out, I plan on either going SPL or PBM.

oh yeah, I remember yo u stopping by. haha Hopefully I'll be able to drop it in springtime of next year. I gotta work on importing my 86 and building the SR first. :p I plan on running 300-400hp with the tomei arms m7960 turbo and a VE head.

haha yup, you popped its drifting cherry ;) now, deep down it wants more! my plan is to get some good seat time toward the end of this year at bremerton and at the PGP lapping days while drifting is on its "offseason".

Also, for those that don't know KansaiDrifter helped me out a TON while putting this thing together, especially with the body work.lol so, alot of credit goes to him as well.

yeah those HKS springs are great! the "soft" ones are a tad stiff and take some getting used to, but so far I really like them. I still have the "hard" ones sitting here incase your interested. lol IIRC, the soft ones are 150% stiffer over stock, and the hard ones are 300%.

haha it's funny you mention that. I was thinking about it, but taking out the quarter glass is kind of a pain. lol Plus, I'm not that concerned with being "authentic" I just got the type-x stuff cuz it looks amazing. :p

thanks! the front is maxed out on the camber plates at 3 degrees, and the rear is sitting at 2. Since I track my car, suspension geometry is important. I don't really want the "hella flush, super camber" look since I still want it to be practical. haha

Yeah, to import one will run me roughly 4k to my doorstep. That's with low mileage and overall better condition than most of the ones in the US for the price. I'm still amazed people are able sell beat up chassis with sr5 -> gts conversions for like 3k. haha

just a quick update, slider2828 and some research convinced me to purchase a set of swift springs and some thrust bearings for my Megan coils before I get my car corner balanced this week. ^_^

who cares? many people replace the springs on there BaLl3R coilovers because swift springs are the shit. he could sell his megan coils and keep the springs. i bet the ride was night and day as well as the performance.

I can't quite afford DG5's. This is my next best option. btw, the dampers for megan's really aren't that bad. sure they could probably be better, but I've had these things for 4 years without any issues. So, unless you have/had something like DG5, Blistein, Zeal, or KW and can comment on those coils, take a look at this thread and then reassess your opinion.

Yup, I agree. Even something standard like apexi or tein coils won't have springs as good springs as swift. I haven't installed them yet, so I can't personally comment on how they are. But, I'll be sure to update this weekend once I get them on. lol

lol, did you see the link to the northamerican motoring thread? he puts both the megan spring and the swift spring into a shock dyno to do a comparison.

Thanks for the compliment though! I don't cheap out on everything. OS Giken rear end, OMP seat, build SR w/ 2871r and a haltech is all on the way in 2012. I like to do what I can the proper way. If its something I can't quite do 100% (running DG5 coils) then I'll go with my next best option.lol

my main point though was that just because they're cheaper than most, it doesn't make them shitty. Sure it makes them cheap, since they probably didnt use the same quality parts, i.e the springs, as other higher end stuff. But i've done both daily and track time on them over 4 years and haven't had any issues. Good $800 investment if I do say so myself. If I was going to do serious comp stuff, then yeah i'd probably want something with a bit more quality and performance.

Finally got around to doing a full write-up on the springs w/ the new corner balance and alignment.

To sum it all up, this feels like a completely different car now. It's way more responsive, and has more stability and grip mid corner compared to before. lol they really make a difference in ride quality. Alot of the subtle bumps/vibrations are totally gone when cruising at normal speed (35-45mph).

lol nice! Glad I was able to spread the midnight purple addiction.^_^ I got mine from a local paint shop. But, you should be able to get it at any normal place that sells auto paint. The Nissan paint code is LP2 and its called Cabernet as opposed to the one in japan that's actually called Midnight Purple. Both are the same color though.

well, I'm not part of that 95% since I ended up getting a corner balance to get everything all even across all 4 wheels. I prefer my car be just functional first and foremost, then look nice second. my front still might look a tad high without the lip, but it handles great. lol

I agree! haha yeah its a 15/16" BMC from the Z31. So far, it has great feeling, and lets me modulate the brake pressure pretty well.
