Ok, my friends 240sx will not rev past 5,000 rpm. Is this a sign of a bad fuel pump? What are your suggestions of this problem?

thanks

Yea, my 90 KA had the same problem when I bought the car.. at the time it was running a bit rich, but I'm not sure what was causing the rev limiter at 5k. The engine felt strong up until 5k, then it would sudddenly cut off. I ended up getting a SR swap before I figured it out. My guess was the ECU running in limp mode? dunno..

be more specific...does it hit a BARRIER similar to what you hit when hitting the speed limiter, or does it just drop off?

If its a barrier, it is ELECTRICAL

if it's a drop off, it is most likely MECHANICAL

If you have a problem with your fifth gear sensor, the car will hit the limiter. Even if you are not moving. It is programmed so that if you are in fifth and the rpms hit 5k, the limiter kicks in.
