Ok, I installed a new starter on my 96 automatic 240sx (ka24) and it worked fine for a week. Then on Friday it wouldn't start. I went underneath the car and took a look at the positive post on the solenoid and it looked to be loose and touching something metal so it was grounding it.

Anyway, I did a better job at retightening the nut and making sure it didn't touch anything metal. Also, I did a better job putting the rubber boot over the positive post on the solenoid. Started fine for a day.

Now, yesterday when I drove to work with my 240 I thought I would see if the starter was still ok after I had driven for 20 minutes. The starter made a whirring noise for about a minute even after I took the key out. It seemed like it was spinning but not engaging the flywheel?

I tried again after a minute it stopped spinning and it worked! So, after work I went to my car and prayed it would start so I could get home and it did. Started it again as soon as I got home and no problem.

Well, today I started it at around noon and it started making that whirring noise again. Let it sit for a few minutes and it made just a clicking noise. Thought my starter was bad. Tried again 30 minutes later and it worked. Did it three times in a row and it worked.

So far it's still working but what should i do? Is it the solenoid? Did I shorten the lifespan of it?
