Can I use an OBDI ka24de since my car has been rewired to OBD2? Please help

Hey guys,

Right now, I posted a WTB ad up for a obd2 ka24de motor. Since my car was originally a ka24e obd1 and the previous owner wired it for a 97 ka24de obd2, is that my only choice in terms of longblocks, or can I use an obd1 ka24de longblock. Thank you very much for your help

Curious. What year is your car? Was the original engine just rewired? Any particular reason you need to switch?

It makes me curious since as far as I know switching from ODBI to ODBII is more than just wiring. You would need a new ECU, several new sensors. . . Going back would be the reverse. Possible but definitely a chore.

My car is a 1990 240sx fb with a 97 ka24de engine (which blew on the freeway on a way to a meet on saturday) swap and a custom turbo kit, as in my picture. There is no need to switch back, but I've seen a much greater quantity of obd1 engines, so I was hoping I could possibly use one of those (just the longblock btw.)

the long blocks are externally the same, use your, the distributor is different and other bolt on pieces but s13 ka's should go in with no problems, you ll just have to bolt all of you manifolds and stuff on

Thanks for the help Ryan, but my buddy already decided that the engine was fixable. He and his friend (both mechanical super-geniuses, far moreseo than I) rebuilt it with new rods, bearing, piston rings, gaskets and .22mm overbore pistons. Should be up and running again soon (just as soon as I get the turbo in)

Yes !! another person building a KA block. if you dont mind, im interested in your setup cause i want a KA race setup myself. I would like to know specifically which parts you're gonna use and how much they cost. Also what's the compression ratio on the new pistons?

I'll be frank guys, this is not a competition/race build, its basically back to stock (but better because its newer). The only reasons the pistons are overbore was that there were scratches on the sleeve, and the sleeve had to be bored out to smooth it out with a die grinder equally. The rods/pistons are bone stock compression/strength, its just that the pistons are overbore. My turbo is quite small, and my power needs as well, so the need for a competition setup does not exist.
