I was wondering if anyone has done anything unusual to their s13's system wise. Give pics if possible, also be sure to give a good description.

I have tons of pics, and I promise I'll post them some day. I swear I will.

Anyway, I put 6x9's in the front doors. This wasn't all that tough to do. It requiring taking off the door panels and mounting a spacer to the outside so that the magnet wouldn't sit so deep in the door as to hit the window. They looked and sounded #### cool.

I put a tweeter on each side of the dash, right at the bottom of the A-Pillar. Those sounded absolutely amazing. When anyone asked why speakers so small were worth it ("How much sound can they possible put out?"), I'd throw some Phil Collins in. You may or may not be a fan, but when those trumpets hit, wow, you knew what tweeters did.

Hmm, then I put external "flush mount" 4-ways on the rear deck (it was a coupe). Those also looked and sounded #### cool. It also gave me something to cover with stickers that would be visable from outside the back window ... Pink Floyd, Doors, etc

There was a 14" sub with custom box in the trunk. The box had been made for someone else to put in their 'Vette, but when they sold the car, they sold the sub to me. I fed that 200w, I think. Oh, and I left the rear seat folded down so that you could see the sub from inside the car, and I put a blacklight on the bottom of the rear deck, so that it shone down to illuminate the sub.

Finally, I put a 6" woofer actually inside the back of the front seats. These made your back vibrate with bass even when the volume was turned down.

I fed 100w to each of the rear deck mounted 4-ways, and 50w to the tweeters, doors, and seats. There was a total of three amps, and a Sony in-dash CD deck with Clarion graphic EQ controlling them. The speakers and amps were made by Sony, Optimus, California, and Pyle - I bought everything used or on sale, so that's why the names vary so much.

Anyway, all said and done, that system really rocked. Everyone I knew complimented it.

Even my grandmother, while talking to friend of hers who was complaining about "These kids today with their loud stereos", once said, "Oh, no big deal. It's probably my grandson anyway." Hehe.

All in, I think I got by spending only a grand on everything. Some day, I'll be back with pics.

I've got 5.25inch Orion HCCA components, with the woofers where the factory speakers would be and tweets mounted in holes cut in the factory kick panels. It gives the imaging of a custom kick setup, but without spending a ton of money or hours spent molding fiberglass, and it looks decent too.

Sub is a 10 inch Image Dynamics IDQ, which is enough to rattle the whole car to pieces (#### cheap pop-up sunroof). I wouldnt want to dynamat the the car because of the added weight, so it's more of a Sound quality setup then pure booming loudness.

Oh yeah Blaupunkt MP3 deck source and everythings powered off an Orion XTR 500.4

Kicks are designed mostly for the mid-bass not the tweeter being located down there. Have midbass in front of you makes your sub feel like it fills in up front too. Dynamat and similar products are used more in sq setups than anything else. Ask any sq pro about this. Although it will make your car louder inside as well. Anyway, now onto my systems:

1)alpine cd player, kenwood 6x9's up front, clarion 4x6's in back, kicker solobaric 12. All running off a soundstream 604.
2)alpine cd player, kenwood 6x9's up front, mb quart 6 1/2 components in back, kicker solo baric 12, rubicon 702 to quarts and another on the sub.
3)sony cd player, sony eq, sony cd changer, mb quart 3-way components up front, mb quart components in back, rubicon 702 to these, rubicon 702 to sub.
4)same sony stuff, same quart stuff, same amps, 2 solobaric 12's
5)same sony stuff, same quart stuff, same amps, 2 kicker comp 15's
6)alpine cd player, sony eq, sony vcr, same quart stuff, same amps, 2 solo baric 15's. This system hit 153's legal.

On a side note I have my entire car filled with expanding foam between body panels and all sheet metal coated with 2 layers of mat deadner and spray on joints. Also put 2 layers on back of trim pieces and behind the door jambs have 3/4" plywood screwed to all the sheet metal. There is a layer of mat deadner over all back windows and over the sunroof. I put an extra layer of undercoating under the car as well.

midbass isnt very directional so it wont sound any different if its in a kick or in a door. Having the tweeters where I have them sounds much better than having them mounted higher up in the doors, because the sound bounces off the windows and the tweets would be closer to you then the woofers.

Duffman,
While your setup allow for better SQ some people are willing to trade SQ for Imaging. Because having your tweeters up higher is going to provide a much more realistic soundstage. Here's an interesting hint... get time-alignment and you have both... and uhh.. it sounds flat awesome!!

I have midbass drivers in my doors already and am working of some glass work but will have midbass in my kicks as well. I've also got full range drivers in the doors and tweeters up high on the doors. Theres another set of tweeters up above the pillars in the edge of the headliner. All I can says is it sounds spectacular.

I've some old school shiet in my car right now. I used to have two 8" W0's that would thump just as loud as any 12"...Here's my current setup:

Alpine CDA-7839 Head Unit
Alpine CHA-S624 Ai-NET 6-Disc Changer
Alpine ERE-G190 3-Band Graphic/1-Band Parametric Equalizer with Crossover
JL Audio VR600 6” Rear Coaxial Speakers
MB Quart RSB218 6 ½ “ Front Component Speakers
Precision Power PC250 Subwoofer Amplifier
Precision Power PC4400.2 Front / Rear Amplifier
1-JL Audio 12W1 in Sealed Box

That EQ made one helluva difference...just being able to tweak the sound can turn pretty nice results.
