Pretty much everything done to my car seemed to be half assed. My AC doesn't work. It blows, but it's not cold. He says all it needs is a new condenser, but whatever. The AC stopped blowing out of all the vents, and only through the top of the dash and the low ones for the feet. And whenever I start my car there is a weird noise behind the ac controls and radio. I wish I knew how to explain it. It was kind of quiet, but still noticable. So I decide to take all the covering, radio, and ac controls out. I get this

:bash::bash::bash:
Now I'm a noob when it comes to wiring. but I can unplug something and know where to plug it back into. The thing is, half of this shit wasn't even plugged in. Everything for the ac controls, radio, and all of that was. It's just there were so many loose wires that seemed to not go anywhere..

What's my best way to go about this? Figure out where this shit goes. And hopefully fix that noise.

That looks like it's just a bad install on an aftermarket radio? Are you sure it has anything to do with your AC problems? Regardless replace the harness or solder the wires and heat shrink them so you know there are good connections.

Yeah, doesn't look like something a little solder and heat shrink can't fix. I'm with Fearell, I'm not sure that's your AC problem.

It's the AC because whenever I select any other vent options it makes a weird squeaking noise.
And when I took everything out it sounds like there's just electricity going all through everything. I don't want to get shocked haha.

The best way to go about fixing this is by posting in the correct section, a little searching, and maybe, just maybe taking it to a mechanic who can feel and touch those wires, instead of just taking pictures of a huge ass mess.

The wiring is not the problem for the a/c. Could just be the climate control unit itself. Also, your thread title is the story of my life. I just recently dropped my transmission because the previous owner failed to install a pilot bushing when swapping from auto -> manual. :bash: I've spent more time fixing the p/o's screw ups than driving it.

*edit* You should feel lucky though, at least those wires were crimped together. I've had to fix wiring that was just wrapped together and covered in electrical tape.

Then unplug the negative side of the battery noob!

First the rear and now this?!?! Best bet is to pull the dash out and see what is really going on in there. May not solve the problem but at least u can get a clear view of what was tampered with. In my world twisting caps and crimps don't exist when it comes to wiring , solder and some heat shrink is a better peace of mind. U can test the vent when the dash is off and see of the wire pulls them open

Everybody's previous owner half assed everything. That's just how it works (or seems, since you don't notice the stuff they did right).

Most connectors are unique, so if you unplug everything, it's fairly easy to put back together. And that doesn't look bad at all, behind the dash always looks like a bird's nest. If pushing buttons makes noises, it's not electrical controls, it's the motors that open and close doors and such. Get a multi-meter and start testing. You'll see why everything is half-assed, wiring is a pain and takes forever.

Can we see a pic of ur climate control? Did the last owner try to install a Dcc?

The noise you are hearing is the motor that switches the vent options. its either going out or it is already broken. after you replace that (and possibly your climate control itself) it will probably work.

For the "my ac only blows out of the feet and dash" thing... I had that problem in my s13, except it would only blow out of the dash. Its the little plastic gear that moves the door that switches the vents. Its stripped/broken/whatever. Mine made funny noises too, find that and fix it.

Woah woah now.
I don't want AC Riding with one window down feels good here in Louisiana.
I was just thinking because the it only blows through certain vents that it might just be that making the noise.

i presume you have never been to a drift day in 100+ degrees whether
or stuck in traffic for that matter.

If a/c is in the car, why take it out

ok broham. its not cold because it needs a new condensor(hopefully he didnt lie to you.)

Your vent selector motor is shot, working when it feels like it, or is getting stuck. best bet is to keep it on the dash vents, but after i show you how to dougie, u can manually switch it back.

lay on ur back and look up to the side of the dash from the drivers side you will see this white plastic boomerang mechanism that moves and selects which vents to open and close. turn your dash buttons to blow on the face, and manually turn the boomerang far counter clockwise as you can until its in this position. the white tab will meet the end of the metal guide rail.

The noise you hear is the inside circulate or outside circulate box opening which is behind the glvoe box. that noise is normal.
If you want to replace the motor, it shud be somewhere under there too right under that selector.

The wiring besides the radio harness and something being spliced into the security? light indicator plug, looks fine.

Bro, Thats just the vents changing, like opening and closing. My guess would be if your air isn't goin out the vents anymore and it's stuck like on defrost the doors and stuck closed and it's just sending air to ur windshield/defrost.

Your thread title is the story of my life. Precious owner didn't install a pilot bushing on the SR, had to pull the engine and install one. Then they installed the clutch disk backwards as well. Had to fix that. After that they gutted the car and threw the interior away and put down fake dynamat in the car so now I have to remove that. Then they installed a
Aftermarket radio and used but connectors and cut and spliced in the wrong places. And finally they went "mud drifting" and let the mud dry and cake under the car. So EVERY time I go under the car I have mud and gunk falling all over MT face and mouth.

Oh and did I mention they removed all the AC lines, condenser, ext and threw them away? Yeah. I haven't driven my car since January bc I'm fixing everything the right way and not half ass ghetto like the guy before.

my engine bay had loose wires everywhere, the fan was cutting up everything. and I feel you SO tough on the mud drifting thing, under my car is so disgusting, I have to hold my breath/close my eyes every time I touch anything. and my engine bay... so greasy...

no good.

but hey, my a/c works perfectly ;)

I have actually.
Most of my friends cars don't have AC.
Weather here in LA sucks, nice and humid, it's been 100+ the past month almost everyday.

Dude go to a freaking car wash, and bring a gallon of industrial de-greaser and a squirt bottle.. spray everything non electric, and cover up your alternator, and soak your engine bay in de-greaser.. after about 3 minutes, hit it with the high power car-wash hose.. it will look like BRAND new again

As far as under the car, you can get alot cleaned with a high pressure car-wash.. depending on what is stuck down there

Some of the other posts reminds me of mine when I bought it. Mine was sitting under a pine tree for 4 months, so it was full of pine needles and sap. The radio looked like the OP's car. I found $3.xx in change in the car (that was nice). They hacked in an aftermarket radiator fan and ran wires all over the engine bay. The wires were "tucked", which meant they were hacked up and electrical taped together. The best of it all was that the trunk carpets were thrown away and it was covered in aluminum backed roofing shingles. It was meant to drown out the gutted interior and 3" race exhaust that was on the car. It was completely ridiculous.

For the OP, I'd download an FSM to determine all the wiring correctly. As others have said, solder and shrink tube it back to the way it should be. You'll learn a lot about the car and it will be the right way.

take everything apart, get a wiring diagram - spool and reloom everything under the dash back nice and neat, checking each connection as you go. There are articles for rebuilding an AC condensor, and lastly you can recharge the AC once you know that you're wiring is good and the condensor and hoses work.
